The Perfection Affect

Chapter 1 The Perfection Affect

The afternoon sun beamed down over the city of Ingra. Rays of sunlight gleamed over glassy buildings shining like stars of the night. Each building were all made of window panes easily seeing what is happening at the other side. With one swing of a rock, the sturdy thing could start to fall a part into pieces. If only it was that easy.

In the middle of the city held an immense elaborate fountain. The water poured ever so graceful reaching to the bottom of the fountain. It's rocky angels seem to dance with the clear liquid. The angel's beauty seemed to glow with the bright sun making their stone smiles more effective. Every by passer sees those smiles have something of hope, while I see it as something creepy and unnatural. That is only me though.

The sun also beamed upon rows of square homes all the same heavenly white color, all perfectly thought out and designed. Every aspect of each house was a twin to the next home at the side of it. Each one had the same grazed grass, bamboo towered high reaching to the second floor, with beautiful lilies sprouting with eagerness. Trimmed hedges were the only things separating the homes from each other. White stones laid for walkways leading from oak doors into the street.

Instead of black asphalt that once covered the streets many hundred years ago, was now replaced with tough glass. The same kind of glass the buildings were made of. Below the street were color tubes that would shine colors like orange, blue, and green. Right now the road flashed bright green meaning to keep on going. Vehicles of different shapes and sizes, still having some aspect looking the same, rode fast but carefully. If orange would flash, passing vehicles would be warned to slow down. Blue would mean to completely stop. On very rare occasions did the street blinked bright red for emergencies. So far I've never seen it happen.

The roads and the buildings of Ingra travel far and wide, highways going over and around businesses, stores and over other roads. The main highways lead to other cities far different from Ingra but still strangely familiar. They all have the same laws, rules, and expectations. They all want to reach perfection.

A non humorous laugh escaped me. Every town tries to be different but somehow they are always the same. It is very pathetic. With a swift move I got up from the steel railing that I was sitting on for the whole day. Now my butt feels numb and that is really uncomfortable. With a little shake-my-booty dance to wake it up. Just close by my brown, worn out handbag was laying on the ground looking well... worn out. I picked it up and hung it on my shoulder.

With one last look out onto the city I walked slowly to the buildings of the middle class. To get to the buildings from my location I had gone through a few trees. As I traveled further my feet made soft crunching noises on the grass. With a few more steps I found hard ground. The trees that surrounded me were replaced with long metal walls at the right and the left of me. The alley way was narrow, small and I felt trapped. The feeling never left me no matter how many times I’ve traveled through here.

Ringggggg Ringgggggg

My body froze. My eyes locked at the end of the alley waiting. The sirens echoed bouncing off of metal making its way into my ear. My breath was shaky and quiet.

Damn Watchers! I thought with scorn. The watchers are certain people who scan the different classes. They are strict and take no nonsense. Their sirens must be on to signal their target is in motion. The only people they would catch are kids who had skip school. Sadly I'm one of them.

I took a deep breath and did a quick scan around me. looking side to side and looking up and down, I have spotted a metal ladder just above me. With a determination spirit, I bend down and jump as high as I can. My hand had barely grabbed onto the bar. With my strength, I made my way up onto the roof with stealth and quickness.

My feet stood on the metal platform. If I walked any further I would step on the clear glass. Don't want to get footprints onto the glass. Besides sensors are located around here. Great for me that I know where they are.

Stepping on certain places leaving no prints I made it to the locked door. I leaned against it waiting and hearing. Footsteps were soon heard running across the alley below me.

I smirked.

I started a run and hopped over some of the glass. Another building was beside this one. Since my building was about six buildings ahead, I jumped on some and crossed bars on others.

Getting to my destination, I made my way to the locked door. A number and fingerprint platform was beside the door. I dug into my bag looking for the sticky tape with my mother's, more like adoptive, finger print. Punching in the numbers I got in.

This was way to easy! I laughed a silent laugh.

I opened the door and before me a huge muscular man with a fancy black suit and a wireless earphones he spoke in a deep voice. "Alyce Carna, you have been found."

I am so screwed...
