Poem: Empty Shells
Chapter 1
Empty Shells
I walk down the cracked pavement
Cold clean November air suffocates my lungs
Colored leaves on the street, shatter beneath my feet
The dark river swirls below like a bathroom drain
Lonely grey clouds hover above, silent like the wind
City lights illuminate the night sky like candles aglow
The people act like robots, such selfish machines
Hiding behind masks, slapping smug smiles upon their faces
Originality is a diamond in this rhinestone world
A once kind, giving and loving place is no more
Consumed now by greed, lust and dishonesty
Have no fear for not all hope is lost
The human race is not as repulsive as it may seem
There are still the few who fight without fear
Questioning today's standardized society
They are strong, brave and stand tall
Look deep and you will see there is one in us all
Cold clean November air suffocates my lungs
