What If?

Reads: 14 | Chapters: 3 |

Okay, this is a lit assignment I did earlier this year, where we had to make a story with a big turning/decision point. So, I did mine on if the great John Lennon hadn't been shot. The first chapter is the beginning to both stories. The second chapter is what really happened, the third is an alternate ending.
I hope you (I shouldn't say enjoy!), find this interesting.

Chapter 1

Part 1

John woke up Monday morning with a feeling that something wasn't right, but he didn't know what.
He pushed the feeling aside, thinking he was just imagining it. He got up and took a shower, got ready for the day, and then he went into Sean's room.
He pushed the door open to find Sean sleeping like a little angel. He gently shook the boy who grumbled and yawned while his eyes fluttered open. "Good morning Sean," John whispered with a smile. Sean looked into his daddy's eyes and smiled back. "Do pancakes sound good?" Sean's eyes lit up and he nodded.
John went downstairs and turned on some lights. He opened the cupboards and pulled out some baking mix. While he was making the pancakes, he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around to see Yoko coming downstairs.
She smiled and gave him a quick hug. She sat down at the table and looked through the newspaper. "Is Sean up?"
John nodded as he flipped the pancake to reveal a perfect golden brown color. He smiled to himself with pride. He had gotten quite better at cooking these past years at home. He missed spending the day with Sean already, but he was glad to be back in the studio again. Just then, Sean came downstairs, disrupting his thoughts. The five-year-old sat down, or rather hoisted himself up, onto the chair. John put the pancakes on a plate and put it down on the table. He grabbed three other plates and sat down with his family.
"Daddy?" Sean asked with his mouth full.
Yoko frowned. "Sean, chew."
"Yes?" John asked.
"Are you going to stay home today?" Sean asked with a hopeful light in his eyes.
John thought to himself that it was these little things that made him want to stay home again. "No, not today. Your mum and I are going to the studio again, so you'll be staying with Helen again, so be good alright?"
Sean made a face but nodded.
John turned to Yoko. "Ey, ya know, I've been thinking about a reunion."
She raised her eyebrows. "You mean the Beatles?"
John nodded. "Yeah, people have been offering us money for a long time now, but I think I'm ready. I mean, I guess you could say me and Paul are alright now, I'm sure Ringo would be fine with it, but I'm not sure about George."
He paused. "I actually want to, I think it'd be fun. I haven't toured in a long time; maybe it's time to get back to it now that there won't be anymore crazy fans. Well, I shouldn't say that, there'll be some, but not forty-thousand of 'em."
Yoko scoffed and got up. "I bet there'll be even more fans now." She looked at the clock. "We've got an interview today."
"Oh that's right. Ok, Sean, we'll be here for a little while. Then we'll go to the studio," John said ruffling Sean's silky black hair.
They waited until Dave Sholin and some other interviewers from the RKO radio station arrived.
Helen came in to take Sean, and John and Yoko sat down for the interview, which lasted for a whopping nine hours. After they were done, they showed the team out the door.
John bent down and kissed Sean. "You be good, Helen will make you dinner."
"Bye Daddy!" Sean waved as they stepped out the door of the Dakota building.
John and Yoko headed toward their white limousine, but John saw a man waiting in the archway.
"Could you sign this?" the man asked, pudgy, young looking, about 25 to 30 years old. He pulled out a Double Fantasy album.
John smiled. "Sure". He wrote John Lennon 1980. "Is that all you want?"
The young man seemed to be frozen. "Is that all you want?" he asked again.
This time the man nodded and smiled. "Yes....yes, thanks John."
John smiled and walked away to join Yoko who was already in the limo. They drove to the studio, Record Plant.
There they spent the night finishing the recording of Yoko's song, Walking On Thin Ice, for the follow up album to Double Fantasy.
