Lupins POV
"Who would have thought Moony would be the first of us to knock up a girl?" Sirius said smiling brightly. "Don’t listen to him Remus, I’m sure you'll make a great father and Shana is a wonderful girl." Lily said supportively. “I’m just so nervous; she waits till she’s in labor to tell me the child’s mine.” “Who else did you think it was?” Peter asked. “I saw her hang out with Severus a few times I was hoping it was him, but of course his flame will always burn for Lily.” Lily blushed a deep shade of red while James put a defensive arm around her. “Remus you might want to come in here.” The nurse said to me. I tried to look calm but as soon as I came in the room I broke down. I saw Shana lying on the bed facing away from me. “Is it the baby what’s wrong with the baby?” I cried. “Nothing, its Shana really she’s sick very sick.” “What’s wrong?” “It happens sometimes, not very often but you have a choice to make Shana or the baby which one do you want to live.” “Shana save Shana!” I said desperately. “Shana wants the baby to survive you need to talk to her, I’ll give you a minute.” She stepped out of the room.
I walked over to the other side of the bed where I could see Shana’s face. Now that I could see her she looked terrible she had dark circles under her eyes, her hair looked dull, her skin was gray and sallow, the only part of her that wasn’t bony was her stomach. I brushed her bangs off her forehead and her eyes opened slowly. “Remus.” she whispered. Her eyes always had a certain sparkle but now they were empty and dead. “I can’t lose you.” I said feeling a tear slide down my cheek. “I didn’t go through 9 months of torture only to end up without a baby.” “I didn’t come here to watch you die.” “I’ll die either way; look at me Remus there’s no way I can survive. I wanted to kill myself when you left me but I found out I was pregnant. Remus I still want to die, you can either lose both of us or just me.” “You can’t do this to me.” I said feeling my heart break. Just then Shana let out a loud scream. The nurse came running in. I silently walked out of the room.
“Remus is everything all right.” Lily asked as soon as I left the room. “Shana’s dying.” “Don’t worry Remus, we’re all here for you, and your baby can come over and play with Harry anytime you need some time alone.” Lily said patting her stomach she was expected to deliver next month. “I’m glad to hear that, because you’re going to raise the child.” “Remus?” “I don’t want anything to do with that beast! Because of that monster I’m going to lose Shana!” A loud scream broke through the door followed by a baby crying.
“Would you like to meet your daughter?” the nurse said carefully opening the door and smiling at me. I shook my head. “Go on Remus.” Lily said gently nudging me. I didn’t want to see the child that killed my Shana. “Here she is.” The nurse said reaching into the bassinet and pulling out a small bundle. “Would you like to hold her?” the nurse asked. I was about to say no when I saw that face that beautiful innocent face. I reached out and took the small child in my arms. She had Shana’s grey eyes with the same brilliant sparkle, and I could see little black curls cropping out around the top of her head. I wanted to stay here and stare at her forever. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the nurse place a blanket over Shana’s body but it didn’t hurt as much as I expected because now I had a little piece of Shana with me forever.

“Don’t speak to Harry Potter.” “But Daddy he is technically family, mine anyway.” “Just because you two share a murderous Godfather does not mean you’re related.” “Daddy don’t talk that way about Sirius, he was your best friend.” “James was my best friend! Sirius is the one who told the Dark Lord where my best friend was so he could kill him!” “Whatever, why can’t I talk to Harry?” “You can’t keep your mouth shut, he’s too young to know about the secrets of his past.” “I’m only a month older than him and I know.” “These secrets don’t concern you there not as much of a stress on your life. I wish Nymphadora would get here already, I can’t stay much longer!” Daddy started tapping his leg. “Daddy I wanted to ask you, I’m going to Hogwarts in a few months, I think I can be left alone once a month.” “It’s not that I don’t trust you dear it’s just that I don’t believe you’re safe. I think you can at least be left alone until your babysitter arrives.” Daddy gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before running out and dissasperating just outside the yard.
“Mr. Lupin sorry I’m late!” I heard Tonks called from outside the door. I opened the door for her. “Daddy already left he couldn’t wait any longer.” I said pointing towards the sky. “Right, so sorry love.” Tonks said stepping inside. “I don’t suppose your father made dinner for you.” “No but he defrosted some steaks.” “Why don’t you go ahead and eat them without me darling I can’t stand raw meat. I really don’t know how you can eat it.” Tonks said carefully touching her stomach. “Daddy says it’s because of his you know condition.” I said looking at her. Daddy didn’t like that I had told Tonks but she was my only friend and she didn’t care, that was all that really mattered. “What’s wrong sweetheart.” Tonks asked as she pulled a book out of her bag. “Daddy doesn’t want me to talk to Harry Potter, but I mean we’re almost related: we share a godfather.” “You shouldn't disobey your father; he’s doing what he believes is best for both you and Harry.” “I just want to meet him, other than Daddy I don’t have any family. Besides it’s his life he has a right to know about it.” “He’s a bit young angel face.” “He’s not but a month younger than me. Daddy showed me a few pictures from when we were babies apparently we were best friends. There’s one picture of me pulling a pacifier out of Harrys mouth and putting it in my own.” Tonks made a face. “I was a baby; it’s not like I knew what I was doing.” “No, it’s sweet in a way. Can I see a few of these pictures?” “Sure!” I said jumping up to retrieve the albums.
Tonks and I spent the rest of the evening looking at old pictures. We even ended up falling asleep on the couch right next to each other. “Wake up.” Daddy said shaking me and Tonks. “Oh best be going then.” Tonks said rubbing her eyes I noticed her hair had grown quite long and turned red in her sleep. “Goodbye baby.” She said waving at me. “You know I hate pet names.” I groaned. “Sorry, goodbye Shana.”

Lupins POV
I watched as Shana slowly stood up and walked towards her room. “Why don’t I walk you out Nymphadora?” “Thanks Mr. Lupin, but please call me Tonks I hate being called Nymphadora.” She said grimacing. “If we’re being formal than you should really call me Remus.” “Alright then, Remus.” She said smiling. I had been meaning to do this for a while now knowing that it was important. “We’ll certainly be seeing less of each other now that Shana’s starting school.” I said choosing my words carefully. “I suppose so.” She said nodding. “Speaking of Shana she’s my whole world, and I would never want to do anything to disrupt her life. Nothing to change it in the least.” “Right she’s a nice girl, I know she’s a lot younger than me but she’s one of my best friends.” “So then we understand each other?” “Of course Remus. Is that all?” “There is one more thing, I don’t have much money and I was wondering if I could have your old robes, for Shana of course.” “Sure I’m not going to use them anymore. I’ll bring them over later tonight.” “Thank you Tonks.” I said keeping my hands in my pocket. She turned on the spot and disappeared. I’m sure it was just an innocent schoolgirl crush but I wanted to make sure we understood each other.
