Mask

A smile curves around my lips,
a laugh escapes my throat.
But what really lies within me,
you will never know.

Behind all the laughter,
of happiness and joy alike.
An eternity of darkness,
there my true self hides.

I lock myself in chains,
and throw the keys away.
Turning away from the little girl,
weeping in the cage.

Will you find the key,
to open up my heart?
You say you'll never leave me,
but how will this friendship last?
