Love was right around the corner.
It's summer break and Phoenix Bramer is all about finding her mate. She's also the Alpha's daughter. But, she's spontaneous. She doesn't believe love will be "right around the corner" or in her pack. It can be found anywhere. She believes her mate could be anywhere. Her bestfriend Kyle, the omega of the pack begs to differ. He's cynical and pessimistic. He's also in love with Phoenix. He comes along with Phoenix on her journey to find her mate even if there is heartbreak in the process.

The final bell rang and we all ran from our classes, Phoenix grabbing a hold of hands and pulling us away from the crowd of students.
"C'mon Kyle! It's summer break! We are going to do everything together, we'll have sleepovers and parties--" Phoenix said holding my hands.
"Uh, Phoenix, I'm a guy. Have parties and sleepovers with your girl friends."
"But Kyle," she whined. "You are my best friend! We can even find our soul mates! Doesn't it sound exciting?!" she giggled.
Her laugh is so perfect. Her face, her personality, her everything. She's so perfect. Why can't she be mine? Oh yeah, she's the Alpha's daughter. I'm the f . u . c . k . i . n . g omega of the pack. I would never be strong enough to protect her. It would never happen...
"Kyle... Kyle... KYLE." Phoenix screamed breaking me out of my thoughts.
"Erm, yeah?" I said huskily.
"Well, I was talking to you and you were zoned out. I was just making sure you were okay."
"Oh, yeah. I'm fine. I was just... thinking."
"About what?" she asked.
"It was nothing important. I was just thinking about... stuff."
"Oh, okay!" she giggled.
"So... what were you saying?"
"Oh yeah! Well, I mean, you don't have to, but, we should go on an adventure!" she laughed.
"What kind of adventure?" I asked skeptically.
"Okay, time to get serious... Do you believe love will just be 'around'? In our pack? I mean, love can be found anywhere! It's summer break, for Pete's sake! We should go somewhere. I'm turning 17 and you're already 18! Shouldn't we have mates by now?" she asked.
"Well, yeah. I mean, I guess. I mean, I've never had a strong enough connection with anyone to ever really find 'love'" I shrugged.
You know you love her Kyle, don't lie to yourself. My wolf said.
"Well, let's go somewhere! Maybe we can find our mates! It will be perfect. We'll both be happier! We'll have our soul mates, and everything will be complete!"
Maybe you'll be happier Phoenix. I'm only truly happy when I'm with you. No doubts about it.
"But, what about your father? You're the Alpha's daughter. He wouldn't want you to leave the pack for so long." I said.
"Nonsense! I may be his daughter but he won't care. He knows how determined I am to find my mate. It's not a big deal to him."
"Well, okay. Where are you planning on going?"
"New York for sure, and maybe California. They are really big states. I mean how hard will it be to find your/my other half? You'd think I'd already have my mate at this age. But no, and if I did have one... He should have come clean and told me! But obviously he's not "right around the corner.''.
"Yeah, I hear ya." I said zoning out.
All I want is you Phoenix, is that too much to ask? I don't want you to find your mate. You are supposed to be mine.
"Are you okay?" Phoenix asked me.
"Yeah, why?"
"Welllllllll, you were mumbling stuff."
"Oh."
"Yeah, well we have some planning to do! We are taking a road trip!" she giggled grabbing my hand and leading me away from the school.
