A Christmas Miracle

"Stick with me, Paige," said Mary, her mother. "We don't want to lose you in the crowd."
"But mum! I want to go to my friends party! It's just down the block! Please, mum. I'll do anything." Paige pleaded.
Mary's motherly instincts in, but she ignores them. "Go on. Get to the party. If I don't let you go, I won't hear the end of it. Go have fun."
Paige smiled at her mother. "Thank you, mum! I'll see you at home!"
Mary watches as Paige runs across the street, eager to see her having fun, until her little girl, Bella, pulls on her skirt. Picking up Bella and turning to the rest of the family, Mary missed the van pull up next to Paige. And with Bella crying in her ear, she also missed the sound of Paige screaming. Something a mother rarely misses.
The only proof that Mary had saying that Paige was gone was the police showing up at their house hours later with the news. That night was the worst of her life. That night was the night that the family cried the most.
