Chapter 1
Orphanage
It was a cold, dark, and gloomy night. The snow was falling faster than a cheetah on the move, about to kill it's prey. Three family members were in a car, and as they turned a corner, another car crashed. The last thing she could remember, was that the car flipped upside down, and she saw her parents, lying back in the seat, making no sound. She was only four, and as the other drivers called the police, she snuggled up in her mothers lap. Mommy? are you there? She saw red stuff on her mothers face, and knew that it wasn't good. She had seen the same stuff when her brother had died, a month ago. She had no clue what was going on, but she was scared. When she heard sirens, she wanted to run, but there was no where for her to run. Shivering, and frozen in fear, she silently cried to herself. Her name was Sonny Matthews, and she was now an orphan.
Sonny woke up to a big man standing over her, with a flashlight. He then turned to another guy and said: Get the ambulance, we found her. They rushed her to the hospital, to check to see if she had any damage. A big, tall, nurse stood over her, and Sonny shivered. She didn't know anybody there, all she knew, was that her mommy and daddy were gone. Before, life had been so easy for her. She could remember her brother playing with her in the snow, laughing, and making snowman. She could remember sitting by the fire, with a warm blanket wrapped around her. She could remember her dad, teaching her how to swim on the summers night. She could remember her mother, beautiful and tall, with blond hair that was usually covered in snow. They had so much fun when she was little, but now, that all changed. She was in a cold place, all alone, with no one that really cared for her. And all she could do was cry. All her belongings were lost in the snow, because that was the night the family decided to move. Her beloved dog, Amber, a golden retriever was the only thing left. She clutched on to the dog, as if she were the last thing in the world that mattered to her. The big man came in again and told her to follow him. So, she walked, with the dog, to this big yellow and blue house around the corner. She was so tired from the night before, she couldn't do anything but sleep. And sleep she did! Sonny slept with Amber, who was a very loyal dog. When she woke up, there were children her age, to greet her. She wondered where she was, until a strange lady in a red and white polka dotted dress came to her and told her something about "being in an orphanage". Of course, being 4, she didn't understand, but one thing was clear, her mother and father were gone forever.
