Chapter 1

Fly to your heart.

The girl on fire, and the boy with the bread. Who was I then? Who were they making me to be. I would never be more than the girl on fire, never outsmart her. Although she became an Avox she was still an idol to everyone across Panem, I suppose you wouldn't understand my story, unless I told it from the beginning. District 12.

I Am The Girl Who Soars. Ellie Dyanill.

District 12 lay in the rubble, bones aflame and the smell of burnt hair and skin filled the air, this is what had become of the home of the Girl On Fire
Now that District 13 and 12 were finally back in the picture, we had 26 people to partake in the games. I awoke on my usual schedule, get up to go wake my sister and brother who were 14 years old and twins Bradley and Marissa Dyanill, and meet my mom in the Kitchen while my dad was sleeping, today was his only day off, it was the reaping day. My mom gave me a silent hopeful stare that one of her children wouldn't get picked, she didn't need to worry, like all the older siblings we made sure our little brother and sister didn't have to take the tesserae, fortunately we were well enough off to only take tesserae every other year, my brother died in the games when he was 18, I just hoped my parents wouldn't have to go through a death again. I began to think of Katniss and how she took her sisters place, I'd do that, I would but how can someone like me outshine her? It's sort of pathetic that I'm even asking myself that. My mom held out some freshly made oatmeal, I shook my head and left, afraid if I did eat it, I'd throw up at who'd be picked today at the games. I went to my bedroom and opened my closet, I'd wear my white button down blouse and a plain black skirt. Nearly no one wore their hair in a braid any more. I hated the capitol more than anything, and I know Katniss would be watching. I took my long blonde hair and braided it down the side, over my shoulder. Maybe she'd smile for the first time since she was formed into an Avox. I dressed and looked into the mirror, I thought of Gale, he was incredibly handsome and I was his for a while anyway, he's with Katniss now, an Avox also. I sighed. You could say we were extremely beautiful, you could even say we were even better looking than the capitol folk, but to say that you'd need a lot of guts. I smiled and stroked my braided hair. I put on my flats and walked down stairs. My 14 year old siblings standing next to each other their brown hair perfectly matching eachothers and their blue eyes piercing into mine, I grabbed their hands and led them out the door hand in hand with my mother and father following. Attendance was required or you'd get a whipping. Peeta would be my mentor he was only 18 now, while I was 16. I let go of my brother and sisters hand as we parted to our different age groups I looked over to them they were close together. They would never be them, or so I hoped.
"Welcome people of District 12!" Effie Trinkett announced. Her hair was a dark purple color this year. Apparently nothing that had happened in the past two years had phased her, she was back to normal.
"It is the 76th Hunger Games! May the odds ever be in your favor" Her voice echoed through the crowd. Most of us rolled our eyes after hearing it for so long.
"Ladies first!" She started, she pulled out the paper. She scanned the name.
"MARISSA DYANILL!" I looked at my sister, this was to much like Katniss. I ran forward and grabbed her by the shoulders.
"No." I whispered.
"I volunteer!" I yelled raising my hand.
"NO! Please I can do this" I looked at her and shook my head, I spotted my mom sobbing into my fathers coat. I walked to the stage and looked out into the crowd of familiar faces. They were all muttering, and smiling. I seen one lady mouth to me Hope. I smiled.
"Now onto the men! Wow just out of luck! Bradley Dyanill!" I let a tear fall.
"No" I seen his blue eyes lighten a bit he smiled and walked to the stage, he grabbed my hand and squeezed he was so brave for a boy. I started to sing, it was an uncommon thing especially in District 12, it was a symbol of happiness, I was singing it for my little sister, it was her lullaby.
"Watch all the flowers dance with the wind listen to snowflakes whisper your name, feel all the wonder lifting your dreams you can fly, fly to who you are, climb upon your star, you believe you'll find your wings fly to your heart" I didn't get to have a final goodbye to my family, we were escorted onto a train that would take us to the Capitol, me and brother, I almost could guarantee neither of us would live...

Authers Note: (The song I'm using is fly to your heart by selena gomez ^_^ I hope you liked it so far :3 Tell me what you think!)
