The pain was excruciating. She wished more than anything that the blackness staining her vision would just encompass her, envelope her, embrace her. End this pain.

She wanted her knees to buckle, she wanted to fall unconscious, to just collapse and escape. She was deaf to the world around her, blind to the chaos before her, unfeeling to the icy shards of rain that whipped her skin.

Memories flashed through her mind. A dark forest, shadows in the night, strong arms holding her, cold arms pulling her away ...
