Chapter 23

You are perfect to me.

Hi guys! I am currently giving myself the look of shame, so don't feel bad if you are too! I am so so incredibly sorry that it took forever for me to update. I am so lucky that I had some free time today to write this chapter. Well...I hope you enjoy and I also hope that you even remember what happened in this story! Once, again, I'm sorry. Please let me know what you think. :) -Alex.

It had been one and a half glorious weeks since the fireworks, and the sparks were still flying high between Darren and I. We talked as much as humanly possible and we saw each other whenever we could. Two days ago, we had another movie night. This time though, it was at Darren's apartment. We watched The Wizard Of Oz as Joey moseyed around the room, interrupting, just
as Darren and I were "getting comfortable". After the fourth time that Darren yelled at him to get out, he finally let us go, but not without adding a final, "Now don't get too wild, you crazy kids."
It was great to finally be with Darren, uninhibited and free to do whatever I pleased because, hey, he was my boyfriend now. I could look at him, hug him, kiss him, and completely adore him without any restriction at all. It didn't take us long to fall into the routine of being a couple. It was so much more natural now. I didn't have to hesitate or doubt about either of our feelings anymore because I finally knew how he felt about me. And also, he was really wonderful at expressing his feelings.

Strong arms snaked their way around my waist and I felt a pair of lips gently touch the back of my neck. My hand lingered above the carrot that I was chopping as I leaned into the touch.

"I didn't even hear you come in," I said, warmly.

"I was trying to be sneaky."

I turned in Darren's arms to give him a kiss. I laid my forehead against his and stared into his hazel eyes. "I've missed you," he said, his bottom lip jutting in a pout.

"You just saw me two days ago."

"I know, and your point is?"

I smiled and gave him another peck before turning back to the cutting board. "How was your day?" I asked.

"Oh, it was great! I got a lot done today. I shot two neat scenes with the crew and then I recorded an awesome song with Kevin, you're going to love it," he exclaimed, hopping to my side. "How about you?"
He took the knife from my hand and took over cutting. I smiled and went to grab another, then joined him again.

"My day was good as well. I woke up energetic enough to go to the gym with Ali and Conner. We did yoga class which was fun and then this kickboxing class that totally kicked my butt. And then I went shopping for this food before coming home to a relaxing bubble bath."

"Well, that does sound good! And I know you did yoga before, but kickboxing?" he said, raising his eyebrows. ".....that actually sounds kinda hot."

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up. That was definitely the opposite of hot. I was worn out already from yoga and starting to get sweaty and I probably looked like I was dying and there were all these kicks and punches and blah..."

Darren shrugged. "Nah, I still think it's hot."

We laughed and I punched him playfully, before wincing. I didn't realize how sore I had gotten.

"But anyway, one of these days, I'm going to join you at that gym. First off, because I'd love to see you in that kickboxing class," earning another eye roll from me. "and secondly, because I really need to work out. I just never have the time for it."

He still managed to get yet another eye roll. "Oh yeah, because you get a body like this by just sitting around, right? I mean, look at these twigs," I replied, lifting his arms.

He beamed. "What can I say? I'm a miracle worker."

"Mhmm, you must be." I looked up to him with a smile.

He proceeded to make amusing faces at me, before wincing in pain. A string of profanities flew from his mouth. Sometimes, I forget the fact that Darren swears like sailor. I glanced downwards, only to see blood trickling from his thumb as he released the knife from his other hand. How he had possibly cut his thumb from cutting a huge piece of lettuce, was beyond me.
I reeled him over to the sink to wash out the cut. He hissed as the water hit the open gash. Once his thumb was fully cleaned, I covered it with a colorful band-aid.
"It hurts," he said, still holding his thumb out to me. "Make it better."
I rolled my eyes, before kissing the purple band-aid covered thumb.

"Thank you!" he said, jumping up and down like a five year old. "I like the color."

"I know you do. That's why I picked it out."

He grinned and hit my nose with his finger. "You're the best."

"Yeah, okay Harry Potter," I said, returning the smile.

After Darren and I finished making the rest of the meal, -luckily without any other injuries- Conner and Ali joined us to eat. It was kind of like a little double date. The salad and spaghetti and meatballs that we had made were delicious, if I do say so myself. After we finished eating, Darren and I left our plates on the table and slipped out of the of kitchen quickly. I heard both Alison and Conner whine. There was no way that we were going to be the ones to clean up, since we had made the entire meal. "Have fun, you guys!" I yelled cheerful as we escaped into my room.

Darren and I lounged on my bed as we waited for our stomachs to digest all of the food that we just ate. The only bad thing about good food, it that it's really hard to stop eating it.

"Well, I think I might explode right now," Darren said as he rested his head on my stomach. The pressure exuding from his head, actually made my stomach feel a bit better.

"Yeah, but at least we know that we make some awesome food together."

"Oh, well definitely."

A comfortable silence was taken up and the meal was starting to make me feel a little drowsy.

"So," Darren said, turning to his side, his head still resting on my stomach. "Your birthday is tomorrow."

"Yes, it is." I smiled at the fact that he had remembered. "What about it?"

"Well, I was wondering what you wanted to do. I just have to shoot some things in the morning, but after that, I am at your whimsy."

I tried to think about the possibilities of what we could do, but I was coming up short. "Honestly, I really don't care what we do. We could even just watch a movie and cuddle and I'd be a more-than-happy birthday girl."

Darren smiled. "Well, as nice as that sounds, I really want to do something special tomorrow."

I shook my head. "No, no, no. It's not a big deal. It's just like any other day, honestly."

Darren rolled his eyes. "Oh well, then I guess I just have to surprise you."

"No! Come on, now. No surprises," I said. "And you better not have gotten me a gift."

Darren sat up and shrugged cheerful, before heading towards my door. "Come on."

"Where are you going?"

" We are going to get some pre-birthday ice cream to get you pumped up!" he exclaimed as he skipped out the door.

How could he even think about ice cream at a time like this?! This boy was so unpredictable.

I rolled my eyes and contently followed him.
