Story of My Life- Year 1 at Hogwarts
(This is a fanfiction based off of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series. I do not intend to claim anything that is rightfully hers, including: The Spells, Places, or any other ideas she came up with.)
It's July 18, 1998- Alexandra Smith's eleventh birthday.
What she does know, is that she's not normal. She makes things happen without meaning them to.
What she doesn't know, is that she's normal. In the Wizarding World.
Chapter 1
The Owl at the Window
A light breeze was carried through Little Whinging, Surrey. The trees rustled, as if they were exchanging secrets, and the branches glowed in the moonlight. The moon was, in fact, exceptionally bright tonight. Bats flew overhead, only their silhouettes could be seen as they fluttered across the sky.
The only strange thing, however, was a small Barn Owl. It was not unusual to see an owl during the night time in this part of the country- however, it was strange to see an envelope dangling from it's leg.
If someone would keep watching the owl, they would see it land on an Aspen tree branch, hop to the edge, and peck at the window. It waited there, unnaturally, as if hoping one would open the window.
That's exactly what is was doing. Inside, a young girl of barely eleven was sleeping soundly, dreaming about her birthday the day before. She was awoken by a soft tapping noise, and, thinking it was her younger brother, thrust a pillow at the door.
Then she heard a hoot. Still thinking it was her brother, the girl opened the door and whispered, "Not funny, Adam."
But no boy was standing there. Frowning, she turned around to go to bed.
Out of her peripheral vision, the girl caught a movement out the window. She trudged over and flung the curtains open to see an owl gazing up at her. "What the- where did you come from?" She then noticed a piece of paper tied to it's leg.
"Poor thing, I'll help you get it off." She murmured, opening the door and stretching out her hand. Surprisingly, the owl hopped onto it.
She brought it inside her room, and began to untie the envelope. "Crazy people, what were they thinking?" She continued to mutter things like this until she got the letter off. "There you go, you can fly free now." She smiled at the Barn Owl.
It only stared up at her, and the more she looked, the more it appeared intelligent. It hooted once, looked at the envelope, then at the girl again.
The girl stared at the envelope. On it, said:
Alexandra Smith
Little Whinging, Surrey
Second Largest Bedroom
Alex turned over the letter to reveal a red seal. On it were the pictures of a Lion, a Serpent, a Badger, and a Raven. "Is this- is this for me?" She asked, half expecting her brother to burst in and start laughing- his idea of a good prank.
But the owl only hooted, and hopped onto the window sill. It continued to watch her, as if to make sure she would read it.
"Well, alright." She said, rather reluctantly. Tearing open the envelope, Alex saw three papers tumble out.
She picked up the first one, which read:
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Headmaster Boswell Bradley Caine Alastair
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Intern. Fed. of Wizards, Chf. Warlock)

She put the papers down, not bothering to read the next one. "A- witch?" She managed to choke out at the Owl. It just gave her a bored look- apparently, it got these reactions more than once.
Alex glanced at the clock, which read 3:57. She decided that she would go to sleep, wake up, and find that this was all just a strange dream.
"Yeah, just a dream." She said as she laid down and closed her eyes. "Just a dream..."
