Chapter 1
The Flume
Maddie was sitting in her room. it must have been around 12:pm. she had been watching the clock tick. 12;01... 12:02... 12:03. all of a sudden a blinding light happened. She threw her arm over her eyes. a jumble of sweet music notes happened. soon the music stopped and light stopped and in place of the light a tall man stood there. He had blonde hair that reached down to about his shoulders, brown eyes, and was very thin and muscuar. "who are..." she was cut off as the mysterious man walked over and cupped a hand over her mouth. he put a ring in her hand. The man released his grip and smiled at Maddie. Soon the room was filled with the same jumble of music notes and light. when it all stopped the man was gone. All of a sudden the ring started to grow hot. It started to grow. Maddie yelped but covered her mouth with her hands, dropping the ring. It clattered to the ground. music filled the room again. Once again it died down. Maddie expected the man to be there again, but he wasn't instead a scroll of paper was there. The papers were a flourecent green and blue. Maddie slowly picked them up. The texture was rubbery almost. It was obviousy water proof. Slowly, Maddie took the yellow string from around the papers and unrolled them. she looked down and saw her best friend Bryce's handwriting. "Okay, Maddie, i really hope your reading this"
Okay, Maddie, I really hope you got this. I'm freaking out here. I don't think i've ever been so scared of anything in my life. You remember when you and I were walking to school and we saw that weird hobo with the stick and how we were freakin scared? Imagine that but a hundred million times worse, then you have my situation. So enough of my rambling on about how scared I am let me get on to telling you what happened and where i am and how I got here. it happened maybe three days ago. i don't even know. my mind clock is all off. Sorry back on track.
Okay, so i was sitting in my living room. I had my singing concert that night. Now I can't even begin to tell you how excited i was, Maddie. Hundreds of people and I would get to sing and play guitar to the song "Accidentally in Love" by the Counting Crows. 4 months of practice all down the drain. I was dressed in a black skirt, white shirt, and shiny black shoes. I had my guitar in hand when a knock came from the door. Slowly, i walked to it and opened it up. In front of me stood my Aunt Tess.
"hi Aunt Tess, i didn't know you were coming to my recital" i said a puzzled look playing across my face. she looked scared. At the time I thought she was scared of me or something like that. Whatever. She grabbed my arm and said follow me. I shook my head in shock. strands of brown hair fell into my deep blue eyes. Outside in my driveway was a red convertible. It shimmered in the dim lighting of the moon.
"aunt Tess whats going on?" i asked still confused, but a touch of fear made it into my voice.
'you'll find out soon enough. just your coming with me" she said faltly. Her curly dark red hair was in a ponytail and her deep brown eyes were determined. For what? i had no clue. she ran to the other side of the convertible so she could get in and drive. she instructed for me to get into the passengers seat. I didn't bother arguing and did as i was told. I could trust Aunt Tess, right?
We drove along for a good 4 or 5 hours to Conneticut. I looked at the time on my watch. The only thing racing through my mind at the moment was how my parents were gonna kill me when i got home. We arrived at this weird house. It seemed abandoned. My Aunt Tess started to get out of the car.
"come on" she said with a wave of a hand. woah, i wasn't going in there. It wasn't my choice. she walked over to my side as i wouldn't move and opened the door and puled me out. Thanks, love you to Aunt Tess. In front of the house was a large wall. Aunt Tess bent down and put her hands out to lift me over.
"are you kidding?" i asked. She gave me a puzzled look.
"what?" she asked.
"i'm not jumping over that fence to get to that house. It's obvious that its suppose to be off limits! hence the wall." I exclaimed using hand gestures as i always did.Aunt Tess gave me sly look. Man, i hated when she did that.
"come on" she said. i rolled my eyes and with a sigh i put a foot onto her hand. she then counted to three and i was launched up. I just barely got the top of the wall. i lifted myself up. Thank goodness for sports. If i hadn't been fit there's was no way i could have made it over that wall. I looked down at my aunt she instructed for me to grab her hand and help her up. I blinked and put my hand out. she grabbed it and lifted herself up with my help. Now we both stood at the top of the gray cement wall. she jumped, i followed. Now we were in the grass of the creepy house.
Aunt Tess walked over casually. I followed almost shaking. We both walked up the stairs to the house. Each step we took made a creaking noise. My aunt went first. she put a hand onto the old rusted door knob. It looked as if at one point it had been a gold color, but over time the gold broke down and turned a rusty red. The door slid open with ease, but just as the stairs it creaked. Aunt Tess walked in looking around the old house. she was feeling the walls. weird. All of a sudden some growling happened. I turned slowly to see some dogs. they're eyes were yellow. they're mouths were foaming and did i mention they were growling. Aunt Tess stopped to look. her eyes widened.
"aw great" she muttered and ran off, leaving me at the mercy of those dogs. I did the first thing that came to mind. I bolted.
Running, thats exactly what i was doing, running. running for dear life. There was no way i was letting those weird dogs eat my face. No way! no how! Bryce is not chow food. All of a sudden i saw a whir of black hair. i grimced that wasn't my aunt. fum fum fum Gun shot came from the room i was running by. Quickly i looked in and saw my aunt. she was in a face off with some dude. he had piercing green eyes that burned with an intensity i had never seen before. He stood maybe 7 feet tall and was very thin. He didn't look like he could do much damage...until he pulled a pistol from his coat. My aunt Tess dove out of the way just in time. if she hadn't moved good bye Aunt Tess. All of a sudden she looked at me.
"Bryce! go down the stairs and there's a cave scream Cloral!" she yelled and dove again. she started shooting the man again. I didn't feel like being killed but i also didn't feel like having my aunt killed. so of course i didn't listen.
The things you can do when your adrenalines pumping. I ran at the man and knocked him over in a full head butt. I had hit him strait in the gut. Score one for the Bryceinator, but i kinda wished i hadn't done that. His pistol clattered to the floor and Aunt Tess was safe. I couldn't say the same for me.The man grabbed me and smiled wickedly. he threw me across the room. I hit the wall. hard. I thought my back was broken but i slowly stood up. The black haired man looked for his pistol. My aunt wasn't the target anymore. I was. before he could find the pistol my aunt grabbed me and dragged me off before the man could figure it out. she dragged me out and then picked me up and steadied me.
"what were you thinking!" she exclaimed. I shook my head and shrugged. what else was i suppose to do let her die. give me a break. All of a sudden we heard gunshot.
"there's our cue" she said then grabbed my hand and pulled me down the stairs.
My Aunt Tess stopped at the mouth of the cave. I stared into it and squinted. There wasn't any end, or atleast as far as i could see.
"CLORAL" my Aunt called out. The tunnel's sides seemed to start to melt and turn to crystal. a sweet jumble of music happened. It wasn't in any certain pattern, but i don't know what it was it just sounded amazing. Followed by the music was a binding white light. I shielded my eyes. All of a sudden i felt a slight tug. i don't know what it was, but i started to bug.
'aunt Tess?" i asked my voice quivering.
"calm down nothing bad is gonna happen" she said when i was pulled into the blinding white light. no sooner had she said that i was floating on a thing of air. around me was a starfield. It was a sight to see. It would of been amazing if I hadn't been going crazy with terror.
