THE SOCIAL CLIMBERS
5 girls. Leona, Anna, Macie, Stacy and Lacy. All 5 social climbers caught up in high school drama. Each chapter will be told in another character POV.
First is Leona, then Macie, then Stacy, then Lacy and then Anna. Then back to Leona and so on.
Leona Denver stared at herself in the mirror. She tilts her head from side to side, approving of her flawless skin. Leona was an African American Beauty. Her dark skin covered up any pimples, any kind of skin imperfection she may have. She had lighter brown eyes that looked a little off with her dark skin, but you can hardly tell by the extreme amount of eyeliner she outlines her eyes with. She fastens on fake eyelashes that are far to long, thick and black to ever be possibly natural. Leona has large lips, she puts on 15 coats of gloss every hour to keep them looking shiny. She has large white straight teeth, giving her a perfect smile. Of course no one knows that she whitens them every night with three different kinds of whitestrips and powerful whitening tools. Leona was tall, skinny. She looks exactly like a model. Her father was a lawyer and she had a stay at home mom who was always busily cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and decorating the house for any and all occasions. They had a large house in Hollywood, California. The floors were a dark wooden brown, the carpets where a perfect white with zero stains, the walls were a tan or a light green color in every room, and to much distaste even in Leona's room.
Other than the tan walls and white carpeting in Leona's room it was the dream room for her. She had a 48-inch flat screen tv, a king-sized bed, a wooden 'toy-box', 2 sets of cabinets, 2 large dressers, 2 five foot walk in closets back to back, and her own personal bathroom with a jet bathtub and two sinks. All furniture in her room was a bright hot pink, with perfect black roses painted on them. In her bathroom there were large mirrors, lots of lights, and the tiles were the same hot pink with black roses. Her first walk-in-closet has dresses, skirts, anything fancy or that can not be wrinkled, and all her other clothing that doesn't fit in the dressers. At the back of that closet is another door leading to her other walk-in-closet housing all of her shoes, purses, accesories and jewlry. The rest of her clothes are in her dressers.
Leona had curly black hair that she absolutely hated, and she spent close to thiry minutes straightening everyday with her InStyler. When straightened it reaches an inch under her chest. She always parts it directly down the middle which doesn't work for most people but she pulls it off beautifully. She fluffs up her roots with a bit of spray so its not flat, puts on a tad of blush and gives herself a review.
She had picked out a white sleeveless dress that had black roses on it(what else?) and black lace up sandles. She had on long white crystal earings and a small white nose-ring in. Leona gives herself an approving smile and picks up her black and hot-pink Juicy purse as she heads out the door though her mother stops her.
"Um excuse me your not wearing that to school." Mrs. Denver says, whiping her hands on her perfectly white apron. Leona slowly turns around and puts her hands on her hips. "And why not?" "Leona its fourty degrees outside!" Mrs. Denver says pointing to the outside thermometer super-glued to the kitchen window. "Ya.... So?"
"So your not wearing that to school, end of discussion." Mrs. Denver turns around and heads to the laundry room. Leona chases after her arguing. "Mom! MOM! Thats not fair!" "Its completely fair. Put on a shirt under the dress and then you can wear it."
Ten agonizing minutes later, Leona emerges out of her room wearing the dress with a long-sleeved black t-shirt underneath which looked surprisingly good. "Much better. Have fun at school sweetie." Mrs. Denver kisses Leona on the cheek leaving a dark-red lipstick stain. "Ew." Leona mumbles whiping it off with the back of her hand. She heads outside and gets in her hot pink, black-rosed porsch and drives to school.
HOLLYWOODS HIGHSCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS is the school Leona attends. It is a private school that you must pay monthly for, unless of course you are there on scholarship, which Leona is not. You have to audition for this particular school because as in the title it is a school of the Performing Arts. Acting, singing, dancing, modeling so besides your usual classes you get to take classes for those too. When you audition you must sing and do a dance routine, perform an acting monolouge and do some model sampling. Leona was of course accepted, her main profession: Modeling.
Leona pulls into the parking lot, driving by all the school busses and the kids parking their cars and to the front door where Sam; a nerd waits to drive Leona's car to any parking place that can be found in the almost full lot. Leona throws Sam the keys and he drives away slowly so not to hit all the kids running to the door from their parking spots(on the farthest end of the lot which would be the only ones open at this time) and into the building trying not to be late for their first period classes.
Leona takes her time as she walks down the hall, getting rushed compliments from the students rushing by. She stops at her locker which she paid the janitor to spray-paint hot-pink, then some art-nerd to paint on black roses. The conclusion? Janitor fired, kid kicked out of school forever, Leona four detentions and the coolest locker in school. She takes out her math book and gets in her seat with two seconds to spare. DING! Bell goes off and class begins, the teacher drones on and on about some confusing math problem. Of course Leona isn't paying any attention. She is inspecting the room for girls wearing more fashionable outfits than her. She can't find any, satisfied she opens her mini-diary and begins writing todays entry when Anna(pronounced On-Uh, rhymes with Leona) walks in.
Leona's mouth drops wide open. Anna who is Leona's best-friend has her honey colored hair in a high ponytail, large brass teardrop shaped earings and matching three inch wedge heels, black skinny jeans a black spagettie strapped shirt with one of those fancy golden sparkly half shirts over her black spagettie-strap. She must be wearing fake-eyelashes too because Leona could see them perfectly sitting on the other side of the room, she had a large amount of eyeliner on(only on the top of the eye not all around like Leona) and her thin lips looked a whole lot larger today..... Lip Plump. Now they were almost as large as Leona and to Leona's surprise they looked extremely natural.
Everyone was staring at Anna and she gave them one perfectly straight, overly movie-star white smile that Leona didn't remember being so perfect. Her green eyes swept across the room, all girls were either jealously glaring or looking on in awe. All boys literally had drool coming from their mouths. Leona's nostrils flared. How could Anna, her best-friend outdress her? Anna must have been in the sun because her skin was strangely tan and Leona could have sworn that it wasn't that tan when she saw her yesterday. In fact alot of things changed about Anna since Leona had last saw her.
Besides just her larger lips, whiter more perfect teeth, and tanner skin there was something else. Two something else's actually. Her arms were more toned and her nose was smaller. She got a nose job and a..... whatever makes your arms look more muscular.
Anna walks slowly to the other side of the room and takes her seat in front of Leona. Fifteen minutes later, only ten minutes till the bell rings for next period Ben Alfred taps Leona on the shoulder. He is not the hottest, richest or most popular boy in school, but he made the top ten. He had a note in his hand, Leona took it and smiled the note was folded into micriscope size and had a little heart on it. "Um its for Anna." Ben said flipping his Justin Bieber styled dark brown hair.
Leona angirly shoved it at Anna, who took it graciously. After reading the note and several attempts of Leona trying to read it over Anna's shoulder she finally wrote something back and passed it back to Leona to pass to Ben. Leona felt like a loser. A loser that no one cared about, a loser everyone ignored, a loser that was an underdog for someone named Anna, a loser that passed love notes back and forth for the next ten minutes which were more agonizing then when she put on this black shirt which made her feel like a middle school student when she was really in tenth grade.
After the period ended, she ran to the bathroom and took of the black long-sleeved shirt. There, much better. She felt the dresses material all the way down, the dress went to right above the knee's. It framed her tiny waist and made her boobs look bigger than they really were. Why was she getting less attention than her now annoying bestfriend? Leona was the most popular girl in school but now she felt more like a Beta not an alpha.
Leona caught up to Anna in the halls. The school was large, although Anna's locker was only five lockers down from Leona's. "HEY!" Leona shouted over the kids loudly talking and shouting in the halls. Anna was inspecting her lips and nose in the mirror of her locker. "YOU GOT A NOSE JOB..... AND A LIP JOB. LOOKS GOOD." "THANKS!" Anna said applying some gloss and nude color lip-stick. Anna closed her locker and smiled at Leona, her teeth were almost so bright that it kind of hurt to stare at them, it was like looking at the sun.
Ben walked over and stepped between Leona and Anna. How could he do that? How would Ben who is not as popular as Leona just side-step her, get in her way, push her aside like she was a nothing? No one had ever dared do that to her before. "UM EXCUSE ME WE WERE HAVING A CONVERSATION!" Leona said pushing back in front of Ben. "HEY LAY OFF RED!" Ben shouted in her face, spit came flying out of his mouth and into her eye.
Leona gasped and whiped it away. She angirly turned to Anna. "What?" "DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!" She pointed to Ben accidently poking him in the eye. "OW!" He held his hands over his eye. "NICE GOING RED!" He walked off to the nurse. "UGH THANK GOSH HES GONE! CAN YOU BELIEVE HIM?" "Ya actually I can, HEY BEN WAIT UP!" Leona stared after her best-friend as she ran after Ben, when a thought occured to her.
Red? Why did he keep calling me red? Why was he laughing at me? When a group of underclass wannabe girls walked by all laughing and pointing at Leona. No one had ever made fun of her before. This was not good, she had just went from being the most popular girl in school to being like the lamest. "WHAT? WHATS SO FUNNY!" Leona screamed at them, stomping her foot. But they just kept laughing as they walked away. No one had ever walked away from her ever. No one had ever embarssed her like that.
Finally lunch came around. She got no more compliments, she wasn't picked first for Science Partners, no love letters, no jealous glares, or drooling mouths and more and more people kept pointing and laughing. Leona found Anna in lunch who was sitting at a table with Ben and all of his top ten friends.
"Heyyyyyy." Leona said sitting down. She did not usually sit at this table, Anna usually found her at her locker and they would buy lunch together and find a place to sit all by themselves at their own table, which would very quickly fill up with many other people. Never did Leona have to find Anna already with her bought lunch sitting at a table where the BOYS sat. At least they were popular, Leona thought.
The boys busted out laughing, Anna looked up at Leona and a sad look came over her face. "Oh Leona no!" She jumped up and grabbed Leona's hand leading her away from the table. "What? Why were they laughing?" Leona put her hand on her hip. "You know why Ben kept calling you red?" "No." "Do you know why everyone is laughing?" Anna pressed on. Leona rolls her eyes and says. "Cuz' there jealous of all this." Leona points to her whole-self and gives her most winning smile.
"Or maybe their laughing at the red lipstick stains over all that." Anna mocked Leona's hand movements gesturing to her whole body like Leona had done when she was saying how jealous everyone was. She had never done that before, no one had. "What are you talking about?" Leona asks angirly. "YOU HAVE RED LIPSTICK STAINS ON YOUR DRESS!" Anna said slowly and loudly so that that the three tables around them heard, looked up and laughed. Leona looked down and gasped. The red lipstick that her mom always wears was all over her dress. She forgot to wash off her hands when she whiped her cheek off this morning! How could I be so stupid? Leona thought. She would never be able to live this down, ever. She had never done anything so embarissing and stupid in her whole entire life, thats why she wasn't the most popular girl in school anymore. Funny how quick your status can drop.
"And why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Leona asked Anna angirly. "It wasn't there earlier." "People have been laughing at me since second period!" "Well I didn't notice." Anna shrugged her thin shoulders. "No of course you didn't because you were to busy flirting with Ben, stealing my popularity and making sure you nose job looked ok!" "Shhhhh don't say it so loud!" Anna said creasing her eyebrows together. "Hey! And what happened to that little scar you used to have on your forehead?" "I took care of it when I was getting my nose job." Anna said quietly, grabbing Leona's arm. "Now come on, the boys are waiting."
"No! I can't go back I need to wash this off or go home and change!" "Fine!" Anna walked back to the table sitting next to Ben leaving Leona there alone looking like a complete loser in the middle of the lunch room. All eyes were on her but not because they were jealous or looking on in awe, or because they thought she was hot. It was because she was the biggest joke in school, she was the loser, she was the one whos popularity dropped from cool to fool, the one with the red lipstick stains on her dress. Leona was for once in her life; a loser.
