Cooking up a Love Story

Reads: 2 | Chapters: 1 |

Basically, a funny story about a guy that wants to get a girl's attention and gets a little (ahem) 'help' from his friend.

Chapter 1

Part 1

"Hey, man, there she iiisss. The love of your poor, underprivileged life."
A blush stained Carter Sill's slightly dark skin as he hunched over the cold metal table and shot his best friend an irritated glare. "Shut up, Zack. Somebody will hear and tell Alise. And if she ever finds out I like her, she'll - she'll do something."
Zack Krane snickered and grabbed Carter's Fuji apple. "She's pretty smart if she does that," he teased, shaking his red hair out of his eyes and chomping down on the apple.
Carter wiped the spray off his cheek and gave his Irish friend a puzzled look. "Does what?"
"Me friend, didn't you hear yourself? You said she'd do 'something'. And that's smart. Who ever heard of doing 'something'?! It's brilliant!" Zack threw his head back and let out a hearty laugh.
Several girls looked dreamily at Zack and giggled. Zack turned and waved at the girls, triggering even more giggles. Then he noticed Carter's incredulous face and held up his hands in defense. "Hey, man, what can I say? The public loves me."
Rolling his eyes, Carter glanced again at Alise Hugle, who was sitting with her friends and laughing. Her wavy, medium-brown hair glistened in the overhead lights, and her green sweater sparkled from the fake jewels she had glued on.
Alise was the prettiest and smartest girl at Western Trail High School. She wasn't thin and tall, but she was friendly and caring. She wasn't rich and fashionable, but she was generous and creative. Almost everybody liked her.
Suddenly, Alise looked straight at Carter and smiled, causing Carter's heart to pound. He quickly looked away, feigning interest in his cold meatloaf. His skin turned hot and his thoughts spun. I wish she'd laugh and talk like that with me. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm not like Zack; I don't have a great smile or tongue that spills out the kind of words girls like to hear. It's hopeless.
"Hey, I've got it!" Carter jumped as Zack suddenly exclaimed, "I have a plan, Carter, me man." At Carter's incredulous look, Zack laughed. "Ha-ha, friend, I have a plan to win the heart of your fair lady. It is fool-proof, it is romantic, it is my best plan as of yet."
"Your last plan brought the cops to my house. Remember?"
Zack shifted uncomfortably and flushed until his face was as red as his hair. "Yeah, well this plan isn't illegal."
"I hope not. So what is it? And it better not be stupid," Carter added suspiciously.
"You can cook for her! Cook your way to her heart. You know, that's how Da won me Ma's love and devotion. Ah, sometimes my brain astounds me."
"COOK?! I can barely heat a pizza up in the oven, and you want me to cook something? Besides, Alise likes to eat healthy; which is a word that, luckily, my mom barely knows the meaning of, so she doesn't keep any healthy cookbooks around. How on earth am I going to cook if I don't have a cookbook?! You're crazy. No, make that INSANE!!"
"Healthy? Me Ma has a dessert cookbook full of healthy recipes. Most of them are easy, too. will bring it on the morrow."
"On the what?"
"On the morrow. You know, the next day," Zack explained. He took one last bite of Carter's apple and got up. "Bye."
Carter watched Zack swagger away. Suddenly, he jerked up in his seat. "Hey! I still can't cook!" he moaned. "What have I gotten myself into?"
