Chapter 1

Prolouge

by: Rinie
“This journey to Relin is not going to be easy,” I thought staring at the map in front of me. The trail starts in Ottawa where I was now and ends in Ducie of Pitcairn Islands. Unfortunately that’s where the trail goes cold; fortunately finding lost things is what I do for a living. People overestimate the possibility of finding “lost mythical cities”; but I showed them what to believe last year when I found the City of Gold. In the legends it states that the city is made of gold but when we got there it was nothing but fool’s gold.

The Land of Relin was where the Fountain of Spells was made; the Minister of the Museum hired us too find it.

“Honey, are you ready for this one,” my mommy called out to me, he Aussie accent very noticeable.

I looked over to my mom; her brown hair tied in a ponytail. She was wearing the red rose tank-top I had gotten her for Christmas and bright yellow shorts. Her hand held on to her hip and the other trying to put on a purple shoe. My mom always stood out like that; she was beautiful and was always getting looks everywhere we went.

“Looks like a tough one,” I told her as I turned to look at the opening metal door.

My older brother, Will and my dad walked in the dim-lighted room. My brother was wearing a white button up shirt with black pants; it was amazing how he could pull that off. He took after mom with his brown hair and green eyes; although his attitude was a lot different. The gum in his mouth and the tattoo that read “I know so,” that he had gotten without permission proves it.

“Is this the new case?” he questioned, looking down at the map.

My dad’s eyes wandered from the map to the flickering light bulb above us; “Didn’t I just replace that?”

I loved my dad when he was like this, his black hair shining in the light and a grin covering half his face. People say we look alike, but all we really have in common is our jet black hair. My dad has blue eyes and I have hazel ones. He used to tell me stories on how he was the high school star; and to this day I don’t believe them.

“Oh well honey,” my mom said laughing, “The director wants to talk to us tonight, so Will guess who’s babysitting.”

“Aw, come on mom. I think I’m old enough to take care of myself,” I complained.

“Remember the last time you took care of yourself, “my dad said smiling, “And besides we’re leaving tomorrow so no one gets hurt.”

“I got it,” Will said putting his arm around me and dragging me towards the door, “Remember my girlfriend Mena, well she’s joining us for dinner.”

“’I’m not eating if you’re cooking,” I told him.

“Then prepare to starve,” he grinned.

Looking back to the day we left, I wish something would have stopped us from leaving. Then maybe they wouldn’t have died, maybe they would have kept living the way they had. “Losing people close to you is harder than dying yourself,” my older brother quoted that. No matter how dumb big brothers can be; most of the time they were right. That’s why I; Celeste Lynette Chambers and this is the decision I will make. I walked into the chilling water of the fountain; not looking back to the world I just left.
