Chapter 1
Scott, Jack and I
It’s Saturday. Yay! It’s cold though … still yay! It’s 7am … yay! Why am I so happy, may you ask? Well, today is my friend Scott’s birthday and we are going to the carnival in town. I get ready and leave straight away because Scott doesn’t have any patience and will probably be going crazy at the moment. At least Jack will be there to calm him down. Scott and Jack are my best friends and have been since year 7 all the way up til now, year 12. We live in San Francisco and plan to stay here, go to college together and maybe live in an apartment together.
Scott is … unique. His real name is Mario but he hates the jokes that follow him around, so we just call him his last name, Scott. I call him Scott … unless he is getting on my nerves and it seems appropriate to get him back. He has blonde hair, green eyes, is average height and a little chubby since he never stops eating. The thing about Scott, though, is that he is super smart … and super annoying. Sometimes I wonder why we are even friends, but most of the time I enjoy his company and have a blast with him and Jack.
Jack is a whole different story. He has brown hair and brown eyes, but is really short. So short, in fact, that I would be surprised if he could see the top of Scott’s head. He is the responsible one of the group (but is still really fun to be around) and always has to bring Scott and I back down to earth. He isn’t the smartest person though, and told me recently that he doesn’t think he will pass his HSC, so Scott and I are tutoring him. He makes up for it with his social smartness (that Scott lacks) and his athletic abilities. He has abs, I’m just saying.
Who am i? I’m Summer and I am in the middle of Jack and Scott. Not quite crazy, but not quite responsible. I have light brown wavy hair that just passes my shoulders and bright blue eyes. I do alright in school but am atrocious at sports and rarely exercise, which is why it is so surprising that I am so skinny. I live at home with my parents and my 21 year old sister, Maria. Right now I am driving to Scott’s house because he didn’t want to drive on his birthday and Jack just couldn’t be bothered. (Outfit: http://www.polyvore.com/scotts_birthday/set?id=35483830)
When I arrived Scott and Jack were singing Last Friday Night by Katy Perry as loud as possible. I shrugged and joined in.
“Last Friday night. Yeah we danced on table tops, and we took too many shots. Think we kissed but I forgot” we sang as we got into the car. We laughed and stopped singing because we knew that singing this loud at 7.30 on a Saturday morning was not accepted.
“Happy birthday, Mario!” I said, leaning over the glove box to kiss him on the cheek. We weren’t together but I can shamelessly say that we kiss each other’s cheeks a lot.
“Oi! I told you not to call me Mario!”
“Well, you got Last Friday Night stuck in my head!” I retorted, before humming the chorus.
“Just drive, Summer.” Yawned Jack from the back. He had stayed up all last night studying for his last HSC exam which was on Tuesday. I made a mental note not to push him today. We were almost at the carnival when it started raining. No, I take that back … it started pouring. I briefly looked over at Scott as we saw the big tent in the distance go down. Jack told me to turn around.
“We can just hang at someone’s house for the day” he suggested. "Probably not mine though, because there is paper everywhere. I found a piece of paper in the shower today.”
“Well we are not going to my house. It’s my birthday and I will do anything get away from that prison.” I saw where this was going. “So that leaves your house, Summer.”
“Alright! To my house we go!” with enthusiasm, I really did like being at home on a rainy day.
When we got to my house we decided to watch a movie. We lie down on my bed with popcorn and watch the only movie from my huge collection that we haven’t watched yet. High school musical. Popcorn and a movie make everything better.
