Chapter 1

Here Goes Nothing.

"Are you sure you don't need anything else?"
I laughed at my aunt. I love her I do, but sometimes, well all of the time she's, how do I put this? Over Protective! I understand that she cares, but seriously! I'm not a child.
"I'm sure, Aunt Em. I promise."
"Okay, well, I'm going to leave now. Are you sure you don't need a ride?"
I rolled my eyes, and smiled. I pulled her into a hug.
"I'm sure."
She nodded and grabbed her bags. As she walked out the door I shut it behind her. I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked better today. I looked alive, well, a little bit. Make-up will help though, I hope. I walked back to my room and checked the contents of my bag. I had everything that I'd need plus some that I'd never need, but it's always good to be prepared. At least that's what my OCD tells me. I grabbed my outfit from my bed and changed. Once I had my make-up on I looked once again to the mirror. I looked normal. I smiled. Good thing I can act. I grabbed my bag and headed for the door. A smile made its way across my face as I looked at Dexter. He's the only one who's always been there, besides Aunt Em. He's so reliable. He's been there when no one else was. He take's me away from the pain. I unlocked the door and slid into the driver's side.
"Hey, Dex, today's the day." I smiled at him as I adjusted my mirrors. As the purr of the engine was ignited I sped off heading to my new High school. William McKinley High, it's not what you'd expect. It's actually quite an enormous school. As I pulled into an empty parking place I noticed immediately that it was just like every other High School. It had the same cliques and everything. Way to break the mold McKinley! I'm so not ready for this, so, Izz, let's do this. With a fake peppy smile plastered on my face, and the little bit of blush I was wearing, I could actually pass for happy. I laughed to myself at that thought. Happy, that is the one thing I haven't been in a while, well not since….. Stop it Izz! You know what this does to you. Ugh, great fighting with myself again. Yea, it's totally normal. Queue the eye roll. Wolf whistles, obscene slurs, and glares from girls in uniforms greeted me as I walked down the busy halls to the main office. I was familiar with the routine by now. Moving schools as much as I have you wouldn't expect anything less. As I entered the office I saw that I was alone except for the four guys sitting in the office looking pissed. One was huge. He had to be at least six feet tall, or super close to it. The one sitting to his right had beach blonde shaggy hair, and he also had some huge lips….kind of like a trout's, and the one on the other side of hmmm, let's call him Daddy Long Legs, was a guy with a faux hawk. Then there was the one that really caught my eyes. He had brown shaggy hair, and black framed glasses. He was covered in, red water? I don't know what it was, but he was soaked. He looked so miserable. They all did really. It seems that they didn't notice me walk in. They will now. I walked to the lady who was sitting behind the desk. She looked like she hated being there. Who could blame her?
"Excuse me; I'm a new transfer student."
She looked up over the top of her glasses and let out a sigh.
"Name please?"
"Scarlett Izabella Maroon Pillsbury, I uh registered last week. I was told that I needed to check in with the principal."
She nodded, and started looking through the stack of papers that cluttered her desk. It took her about fifteen minuets to locate the correct files, and the whole time I could feel eyes burning into my back, my head, and my a.ss. I rolled my eyes at the thought of what they might be thinking.
"Here you go Ms. Pillsbury. Just have a seat and Principal Figgins will meet with you in a moment."
I nodded and thanked her and sat in the only open seat which was in between Daddy Long Legs and faux hawk guy. I sat there looking through the file. It was pretty basic. A schedule, a map of the school, some pamphlets, and a flyer filled with coupons. I giggled as I read the pamphlet names. Aunt Emma was definitely behind these. I glanced over at Daddy Long Legs and noticed him looking at me. Can you say awkward? AWKWARD! Wait did I just answer my own rhetorical question? Never mind that doesn't matter. I smile and offer my hand.
"I'm Scarlett. It's nice to meet you."
He shook my hand and flashed a crooked smile.
"I'm Finn. It's nice to meet you too, Scarlett."
I grinned and put the contents back into the folder and waited in silence until a voice broke it.
"Mr. Puckerman, come on in."
I looked to the door as I saw a man who I assumed was the principal and another guy in a letterman jacket walk out of the room. The one with the faux hawk stood up and walk towards them.
"Go to class Mr. Karofsky. I will see you again after school."
He looked pissed, and once the others saw him I thought they were going to pounce at any minute.
As he walked out 'Mr. Puckerman' vanished into the room, and silence washed over us once again. It was the same process over and over again until they had all entered the room one at a time, and left the same way. I had learned that Daddy Long Legs was Finn Hudson, Trouty Mouth was Mr. Evans, Hawk boy was Mr. Puckerman, and the one who had brown hair, was also in a wheel chair. It shocked me. I hadn't even noticed it when I saw him, but he was Mr. Abrams. Oh, and then there was the football player. Let's call him Douche. Douche was Mr. Karofsky, not that I'd call him that though because he's Douche. I smiled to myself at that thought.
"Ms. Pillsbury, come in please."
I stood up and walked into his office taking a seat in the process.
"I'd like to welcome you to William McKinley High. I hope you find everything to your liking here. If you have any problems you can come to me or your aunt, which ever you prefer. Here is a list of our extra circular activities and clubs. You can participate in as many as you like.”
I nodded as he handed me three sheets of paper and continued to explain.
"You'll need to get this signed by all of your teachers stating that you were present in their class today. That is all, so have a nice day, Scarlett."
I nodded my thanks as I walked out. I let out a breath and closed my eyes for a second. As I opened them I saw a group of guys carrying slushies walking down the hall. They were headed for three girls. Two blondes and one had black hair. They weren’t doing anything, but talking to each other, and yet they still slushied them. I was horrified. How can they get away with that!? They didn't even look phased. Actually, they looked…..bored? I watched as the walked into the bathroom, and things in the hall hadn't even stopped. I hurried to my homeroom, Mr. Schuester, interesting name. All eyes landed on me as I walked into the classroom. I immediately noticed one of the girls who were slushied earlier. She was the dark haired girl. She appeared to be Latin and wore a stern pout on her face. I know her type. They act big and bad, but it's to hide the pain and insecurities inside. You can recognize one of your own right? I glanced once more around the room noticing all of the nameless faces, but I saw a few I recognized. Hawk Boy, the one with the glasses…..hmmm he’s Superman. I smiled as I gave him the nickname.
"You must be new."
I turned to see a man I presumed to be my teacher. He wasn't old, but he wasn't too young either. He had short curly hair that made him stand out.
"Yes, I'm Scarlett. Scarlett Pillsbury."
He looked thoughtful for a minute and then resumed speaking.
"You’re Emma's niece, right? Well, welcome to McKinley. I'm Mr. Schuester, or as many call me Mr. Schue."
I laughed a little.
"Thanks, and yes Emma's my aunt. Um, here's my sign in sheet, or whatever this is."
I handed him the paper and he signed it and handed it back. He then looked through a book on his desk and smiled up at me.
"Looks like I have you for Spanish too. If you need anything or have any questions you can always come to me. You can have a seat next to Artie."
I nodded as he spoke. He seemed cool, which is surprising for a teacher.
"Artie is the one in the second row. He's in the wheel chair. He's a nice kid. I'm sure you two will be good friends."
I smiled and nodded my thanks as I made my way down the aisle. I caught some very unwanted attention from both the boys and the girls. I sat down silently, and organized my things on my desk. I pulled my sleeves down making sure my wrists were hidden. I couldn't risk them knowing.
"Hi, I'm Artie. You're new right?"
I smiled my fake Barbie smile and put on my act once again.
"Yes, it's nice to meet you, Artie, I'm Scarlett."
He offered me his hand and I shook it for a brief moment. He was nice, and he was super cute. We talked on and off through homeroom and then he asked what my schedule was. We had Spanish together and our lunch period. He told me that I had English Lit. with a girl named Mercedes, and a guy named Kurt. I wasn't too worried about my classes until Artie and I parted ways after homeroom was released.
"Here goes nothing, Scar."
With those words on my lips I walked out of the room and headed towards the math room.
