From the Shadow to the Limelight (A Starkid Story)

“Ellie!” my sister, Julia called from downstairs.

“What?” I screamed back.

“Get up! We have to get to Chicago!” I quickly jumped out of bed

How could I forget? Today was the day I was moving into the dorm. I hastily grabbed the clothes I had set out the day before and threw them on. Then, I grabbed a box and started carrying it downstairs to my car. Julia was sitting at the table eating cereal.

“Julia! Please, help me carry these boxes!” I whined.

With a sigh, she stood up and walked up the stairs to my room. On my way back up the stairs, I saw her carrying boxes down. We continued like this for a while until almost all the boxes were in my car. Then, we made the final trek up the stairs to load my sheets into a box and to make sure we hadn’t left anything.

I smiled at the now empty room. I would miss this place but I couldn’t wait to get started at University of Chicago. I’d be doing what I love- writing, I was going to major in English.

“Let’s go say bye to Mom and Dad,” Julia said, beckoning me with her hand.

I nodded and followed her out of my room and into my parents'. They were still asleep so we had to wake them up. We exchanged hugs and promises to visit and then Juls and I were in my car, on our way to Chicago.

It was a long drive, a little over 5 hours, from Cincinatti to Chicago, but I enjoyed every minute of it. We talked about things we would do there and school and sang at the top of our lungs to songs from Julia’s theater company, Starkid. I’d been a fan of Starkid ever since Julia played Crabbe in A Very Potter Musical. I had gotten to see it live and I was pretty good friends with most of the cast. One of the ups of going to school in Chicago was that I would get to see all of Team Starkid and possibly help with their upcoming performance, Starship. I couldn't wait!
