Determine Your School Ethos?

This online Tool will help you determine your school's ethos. Answer the questions as best you can. The questions are specifically created to establish your school ethos. You may be an educator, school principal, parent, school governing body member, learner or just an interested individual.This tool does not determine the Religious Ethos of a school. Religious Signs, Faith based instruction, statues and the curriculum ( including hidden curriculum ) determine the religious ethos.

    Does the school staff filter telephone calls (communication) and prevent customers ( learners / parents ) interacting with the school principal.

    Does the school display the Batho Pele principles in a place that is visible for all to read, internalise and apply at the school?

    Are learners treated fairly by the principal and or school staff?

    Are visitors and or customers ( learners and parents ) treated as a nuisance when they visit the school ?

    Do learners feel free and uninhibited to talk to the school staff including the principal about their problems?

    Are individuals embarrassed in the presence of others by school staff and or principal when they interact with the school?

    Are school staff including the principal judgemental instead of being developmental?

    Are customers ( parents / learners ), visitors offered a seat when you visit a school?

    Does the school staff including the principal respond positively to telephone messages?

    Does the school provide refreshment for visitors? This may be a cool drink, tea or ...

    Does your school have an accessible suggestion box?

    Are customers (parents/learners), visitors made to wait for long periods of time with no suitable response from individuals at the school?

    Does the school provide a private area ( an office or a quite area away from inquisitive visitors) for you to discuss sensitive matters?

    Is the school receptive to valid changes as requested by your customers. ( parents, learners, community)?

    Are school staff including the school principal polite to customers ( parents / learners / community ) even in the most challenging times?

    Do visitors, customers ( parents/ learners) feel unwelcome at the school?

    Does the school accept valid criticism without offering lame excuses?
