Chapter 1

She Howls Only To The Moon.

(She's 11 when it starts out...)

~Shizuko POV~
I put my hood, of my coat, up before I left for the academy. Lilly met up with me halfway there. I wasn't all that interested in the academy anymore... Not since I've been stuck sitting between Sasuke and Naruto... All of Sasuke's fan-girls hate me for it... Lilly feels sorry for me, because she used to talk for me, now she can't because I'm stuck away from her. I sighed.
"Shizuko? What's wrong?"
I spoke softly. She had been the only person I would speak to after an incident that happened a long time ago... She was the only one who understood.
"I don't like being stuck between them in class. It makes me want to beat them both..."
She smiled softly.
"I know, but you'll just have to last a bit longer okay?"
I nodded. We reached the academy sooner than we thought we would. I went and sat down in my seat. I sighed.
Another horrible day, stuck between the Raven-Haired Jerk and the Blonde, Goggle-head nuisance.
"Good morning Shizuko."
I sighed and waved to Naruto. He blinked.
"That's it? You still won't speak to anyone?"
I nodded. He sighed and sat down. I didn't even hear Sasuke sit down next to me until he said something.
"Morning."
I looked at him, all I did was wave though...
"So you really won't talk will you?"
I sighed.
It's the same question, day after day... from everyone...
"Good Morning Sasuke-Kun!"
I heard him groan as Sakura and Ino both started to walk over here. I started to laugh to myself. They both stopped and glared at me.
"Oh... You're here..."
They said it with so much hatred. It was like this every day...

~Lilly POV~
I watched and insults were thrown at her from both girls. She seemed to be getting upset now... I stood up, about to say something, when something unexpected happened...

~Shizuko POV~
I listened... Finally they said the one thing that completely snapped my control. I stood up and slammed my hands on the desk.
"Listen. You better shut up right now or you'll be paying for it. So shut up, unless you wants both your throats ripped out."
They slowly backed away, scared to find out that the first I had said to them was a deep threat. I sat back down, shaking with anger. Naruto and Sasuke were just watching me, they both seemed kind of scared... I sighed then relaxed a bit...
"Wow... Never thought you would say something like that..."
I looked at Sasuke.
"Well when you have to deal with insults from them every day... It gets anger bottled up inside you when you don't speak freely. I had to do something..."
He blinked. I swore I knew what was going through his mind at that time...

~Lilly POV~
I sat back and blinked.
"Did that really just happen?"
I looked over at Kiba. I jumped a bit.
"Oh... Sorry. Didn't even hear you come in..."
He blinked.
"Sorry."
I smiled.
"It's all right."
I never realized I hadn't answered his question until he asked again.
"So did that really just happen?"
I looked at him. Then I looked back at Shizuko. She was talking to Sasuke. Naruto was too busy trying to get Sakura's attention to talk to her... I nodded.
"I think it did."
He sighed.
"I knew those two would push her too far one day..."
That's when Iruka-Sensei walked in...
I opened my eyes when I felt someone shaking my shoulder. I heard Kiba's voice.
"Hey.. Wake up."
I lifted my head.
"what?"
He chuckled.
"You fell asleep again... Everyone has left already..."
I sat up.
"Awwh man! I always fall asleep.."
He laughed and walked out the door without saying anything. I got all my stuff and started to run home.

~Shizuko POV~
I heard my mom answer the door.
"Oh, you came for the information? Okay. I'll go get it. Just wait here..."
I heard the people walk in and my mom shut the door...
One grown up, and one kid my age... probably someone who is in the academy and their mother or father.
I was about to step away when Isamu pushed me from behind, forcing me into the hallway. I was about to punch him when my mom came into view.
"Shizuko... Don't..."
I put my fist down.
"Fine..."
I snarled. I put my hood up and began walking out of the hallway. I stopped dead, I had nearly run right into my step father, Ken. I hated his guts. He nodded to me.
"Shizuko."
I didn't even speak to him. I walked past him. I looked at my mom. She looked at me and nodded. She already knew I was heading out to the training grounds. Of course, I had waited until those people had left... I went right to the training grounds after walking out the door... I always stayed here... There was always something I could work on in fighting... I was about to pull my hood down when I heard footsteps. I turned to see Kiba standing there...
"So this is where you disappear to every day?"
I blinked then nodded.
"Why?"
I sighed and spoke softly.
"Because I am always trying to get stronger..."
He looked at me.
"You seem strong enough to me..."
I shook my head.
"No! It's never going to be enough! I just know it won't!"
He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Why not?"
I shrugged his hand off.
"Because of who I am... People won't be able to see past what I look like enough to trust me..."
He blinked.
"They can't see you with that hood covering your face.."
"Exactly. That's why I wear it... So no one can judge me by my looks because they can't see my face..."
I waited for his response...
"And what if they did get past what you look like?"
"Then I'll be dead."
He seemed taken aback. Then he recovered.
"Can I at least see your face?"
I looked at him. Then slowly I put my hands on the edges of the hood and pulled it down. I looked at him.
"Happy now that you've seen my face?"
He blinked.
"Wait... you've got ears..."
I looked away and quickly put my hood back up.
"That's why I hide my face..."
I know he had seen my fangs too... but he didn't say anything about them... Slowly he walked over to me.
"Its nothing to hide. It's something to be proud of. You're different than the others... That's a good thing..."
