Chapter 1
The Carwash
I walked into French class that day and sat down next to Raphael. "Lise, Diane and Rosalie will all be there this afternoon. I brought the buckets, sponges, squeegees and a hose too. Plus, I told all of the teachers about the carwash."
"That's great," Raphael said, but not nearly sounding the least bit excited. "Ethan, Patrice and Brice are going to come, and I handed out some flyers." Madam Ju'bi entered the room.
"Bonjour, Classe," She said once again. We all responded the usual. "Today we are going to be passing in the permission slips, and talking about the trip." Madam Ju'bi publicized. "Simone, will you please amass all of the slips." Simone walked up and down the aisles perceptibly unhappy with the fact she of all people was chosen. When she got to me, she scoffed appallingly, grabbed my permission slip from my hands, and sustained walking on. From the then on, that was probably the worst French class conceivable.
Since school was finally over, Lise, Ethan, Diane, Patrice, Rosalie, Brice, Raphael and I went to the parking lot to set up. Little to our interest, Simone and Jade was there waiting for us. "Ready to start the carwash?" Simone asked sassily.
"What are you talking about?" Rosalie asked suspiciously. "You weren't Invited, nor asked to help us, or told to remotely show up!" Rosalie was obviously atrociously angry.
"Well the flyers say student carwash, so you have to let us help." Simone sneered.
"What jackass wrote that on the flyers?!" Ethan questioned. I looked at Raphael who was bowing his head lower and lower in embarrassment.
"That jackass was me," he said discomfited. Everyone looked at him and started beating their heads with their fists.
"Fine, you can help," I said unwillingly.
"Like we have a choice," Brice said under his breath, there were a few snickers. Simone and Jade gave a satisfactory smile and went to get the buckets. "This is just great," Brice said dolefully. "Now they're going to get a cut of the money, and their probably not going to use it for the trip."
"I have an Idea," I said beguilingly. "We could put one of us at the cash register, and give them a smaller cut! That way, they'll never know the real total!"
"Genius!" Raphael said. I blushed. Simone and Jade walked over.
"What's genius?" Simone probed suspiciously.
"Oh," Raphael pondered. "Faustine's Perspective and regulation to the law of superposition over gas prices being influenced over foreign rule and egalitarians."
"Huh?" Simone asked muddled.
"Science homework," Raphael replied. Simone and jade walked away still muddled.
"Raphael," I said. "The law of superposition states that older rocks are underneath younger ones. It has nothing to do with gas, foreign rule or egalitarians."
"Right," said Raphael. "But I needed to confuse them."
"You're probably right." Raphael smiles and walks away to go help Rosalie at the cash register. Thank God that Simone and Jade didn't relies Rosalie was running the cash register. Instead, the sloppily washed cars, not even getting all of the soap off, and letting Brice collect the money from the customers. Everything went well until I noticed she was taking a rather long break. The car she was supposed to be washing, had been sitting there for twenty minutes. I went up to the car window and tapped on in. The man rolled it down. "Hello, sir," I said politely. "I apologize for the wait. How may I help you?"
"I'd just like a simple wash. Some soap and a rinse down. Here," he said handing me some money.
"Thank you sir, we'll be right over." I ran over to the cash register and handed the money to Rosalie. Then I called Lise, Ethan and Raphael over to help clean the car. As we started to wash the car, Simone approached me.
"What do you think you're doing?" she asked furiously.
"This man has been waiting her for twenty minutes, and you did nothing. So I came over to accommodate his needs." I replied.
"The only reason I didn't help him was because he was being rude to me!" She yelled back. I rolled my eyes.
"What did he say, may I ask?"
"Well, I asked him what he wanted done to his car, and he said he wanted it washed. So I asked if he wanted water, or H2o to be used to clean his car, and he got really mad. He asked if I really was in eighth grade, and told me he didn't want someone stupid like me to wash his car. Then he told me to get someone smart like you. That's when I got mad because I know that you're not as smart as I am, so he'd think you're stupid too," She replied in satisfactory.
"Oh really? You think you're smarter that I am?"
"I know it for a fact," she replied hastily.
"What do you mean?" I asked now nervious.
"I looked at your report card, from your records, and compared all of your grades to mine. All of my grades where better."
"Oh, so you got straight A's?" I asked disbelievingly.
"No-I got all F's, and everybody knows that an F means fabulous and A means abominable," she says smiling. I looked at her.
"Are you sure you're supposed to be in eighth grade?" I ask. "Because even first graders know that F means fail, A is the best thing that you can get."
"Oh," She said now looking incredulously irate. She lifted her hand and slapped me across the face. I sniveled in pain. Then she grabbed the hose next to her and stated to spray me with water. When Raphael noticed and ran over.
"Hey," He shouted stepping in front of me so he was no being drenched by the hose. "That's enough!" Simone continued to spray the both of us. "I said that's enough!" He grabbed the hose from Simone, and sprayed her and the face, then turned it off. "Why the hell would you do that-to anybody?!" Raphael yelled at Simone. She gave him an insultingly mad look, flipped him off and walked away. Raphael looked back at me. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah," I say rubbing my face.
"I think maybe we should close down the carwash, and split the proceeds."
"I think you're right," I reply. We finish washing the last car, and then we go over to the tent so we can split all of the money. We all got a hundred dollars each and I finally had enough for the trip to Quebec.
"That's great," Raphael said, but not nearly sounding the least bit excited. "Ethan, Patrice and Brice are going to come, and I handed out some flyers." Madam Ju'bi entered the room.
