Chapter 1
A Rough Start
Snape stared at the wall across from his desk, pretending to be deep in thought, knowing full well he had no idea of what to do with himself today. Today was the start of classes, and to his dismay he had the first year Gryffindors and Slytherins first thing this morning. He had always despised the Gryffindors, no matter which year, but now that Lily was one herself, he wasn't sure. Lily hadn't spoken another word to him last night after their disagreement, and that worried him. He jumped as the door swung open, children hustled in, classes had begun. He saw Lily slide her way in the room. She looked his way and smiled cheerfully. All was forgotten, hopefully. She made her way to her seat, next to Harry. Lily could tell she had just put her father in a bad mood. Snape groaned and began the class. "There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class," he snapped. She sighed, yes she had. He continued, “As such, I don’t expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion making. However for those select few,” he droned on, eyeing me. I smiled lightly, and he continued, “Who possess the predisposition…I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death.” Lily's POV I looked over and saw Harry scribbling down each and every word that came out of my fathers mouth onto his parchment, this couldn't be good. I nudged him continuously, but he still wasn't aware. My father came over to our desk. "Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to not pay attention!” Harry looked scared, as dad starred him down. He began firing questions at Harry about potion ingredients that no one knew but Hermione, and myself of course (but obviously, I didn't make it known). With one last, “I don’t know, sir,” Harry gave up and sunk back in his seat. Seeing he had the final say, my father jeered, “Clearly fame isn’t everything.” The rest of the class went by agonizingly slow. My father would continuously stare over at Harry and me, and it was awkward. Poor Neville obviously didn’t have a knack for potions because halfway through class he ended up on the floor, drenched in the potion. Clearly my father wasn’t happy, and this only made class just that more difficult for the Gryffindors. Boils began popping up on the poor boy’s face, I felt so bad for him as my father continued to growl at him for his stupidity. Finally class ended and I nearly ran out the door, barely giving my father a chance to put one word out. Harry, Ron, and I ended up at Hagrid’s after that horrific class. I had always loved Hagrid, to my father’s dismay I loved to spend spare time with him and his strange array of magical creatures, and of course Fang. We reached Hagrid’s and he greeted us with his usual warmth, “Come in make yerself at home!” “This is Ron,” Harry said. “Another Weasley!” Hagrid laughed. “And this is…” “Lily! Of course!” Great! I hadn’t expected this to happen. Harry and Ron looked confused, so Hagrid took it upon himself to explain. “Well she’s Snape’s daughter of course!” Harry and Ron’s mouths practically dropped to the floor. Great. I am going to have no friends. “I probably shouldn’t of said that,” Hagrid mumbled as he saw my facial expression. I couldn’t take the stares, so I bolted out the door. Harry and Ron excused themselves from Hagrid and of course came running after me. “Oi Lily!” “What do you want? I know I’m Snape’s daughter. You don’t have to be my friends anymore, I get it.” “Look, yeah you may be the daughter of a man who hates me with a passion, but I still want to be your friend.” Harry said lightly. “Correction- Best Friends,” Ron chimed in. We all joined arms as we walked back to the castle.
