Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Getting attacked is bad. Getting attacked while in the tub is worse. Which just goes to show that attackers are very inconsiderate. Luckily in my seventeen years this isn't the first time that it has happened. Fighting naked isn't pleasant but neither is being attacked in the first place, and really once you get passed the embarrassment the adrenaline will override it. My ears once again saved my head from being bashed in. Since they heard the swoosh of the sword in the air before it was able to connect with my head. Some would call that cutting it close(no pun intended) but for me that's just life. Looking back at where my head was resting and how the tub looks now I'm really happy I don't have a home, cause I'm sure I'd be replacing things all the time. Downside is I really doubt the Inn will be happy. I don't plan on being here in the morning when they find out though, so no worries. Well except for the 300 pound one standing in front of me with a sword.
This fight would be a lot easier if I could just get to my sword but since that's across the room I guess I'll just have to settle for the element of surprise. That's definitely the look big boy had on his face when I jumped out of the tub right onto him. So much so that he lost his balance and we both tumbled to the floor. Realization finally hit that he just got attacked by a naked girl but by that time I already had a good hold on his sword arm as he tried raising it. He tried distancing himself from me which was made harder by me not letting up on his arm. Finally we were in a position of being close together but not that close. Which is just what I wanted. I finally let go of his arm and before he had a chance to swing down I kicked him where it hurts. Which in turn made him drop his sword and make his face go purple. Not being one to miss a chance I quickly grabbed it off the ground. Dodging out of his way as he came at me with a look of fury. Being smaller and thinner has its advantages, I was able to quickly get behind him. One good hit with the hilt end of the sword to the back of his head and he was on the floor unconscious.
Getting dressed quickly I look down at him one last time and feel kinda bad. He was obviously hired and had no idea who he was messing with, but then again he was stupid enough to agree to the job so his outcome is his own fault. I grab my belongings, slinging the bag onto my shoulder and head for the stairs.
This is the price I pay for being raised by thieves who taught that it was ok to steal from the rich as long as you were helping the little people. The only thing they didn't think to add was that rich people really don't like that and sometimes decide to seek revenge. Which in my opinion is just wrong since they still have lots of money, they just don't like to share. Three weeks and I still haven't taken a decent bath. It's really late but Max's tavern is always open and considering I have nowhere else to go it looks like the best place for a little sleep.
"Ah, Riese my girl. Come sit down. I haven't seen you in a long while. What can I get you to drink?" When you're an orphan you come to find out who's good people and Max is good people. He's been like a father figure to me since I left the woods and decided to join society. Although unlike a father he lets me have all the freedom I could ask for. Lets me learn from the consequences. Which I greatly appreciate. He hasn't changed much, hair is a little more gray and stomachs a bit bigger but besides that he's the same. "No thanks Max. I was just wondering if you had a bed I could use for the night?" He sets a key on the bar. "You know there's always a bed here for you when you're in need." I smile taking the key. "Thanks Max." I start to take my leave when I hear a voice.
"Riese, baby I knew you'd come back to me." I turn around and face a drunken Ash. Ash who thinks he's a ladies man, and for some reason has it in his head that we're meant to be together. He's annoying but hasn't caused any trouble yet. "Ash you're drunk like always. Go home and go to bed." He smiles a dopey smile and takes a few steps. "Nah I feel just fine." The next step he takes he crashes to the floor. I turn back around and head up the stairs where a nice and cozy bed is waiting for me.
