The Taste of Loneliness

Marisol was all alone, she had been lonely for longer than she could remember. Her only companions were the animals, to whom she could tell everything, but she missed human company. Her parents had died of an illness a few weeks after her 1st birthday. No doctor could identify the illness so they just assumed it came from elsewhere. Marisol had been sent to an orphanage after their death, and knew no place besides it; the other children in the orphanage had never been kind to her, and Marisol didn’t know why, all she knew was that they didn’t like her. When she tried to talk to them they scowled and turned away. Since then she had become familiar with all the animals in the forest that the orphanage bordered. Sometimes the animals crossed the border and everyone except Marisol was afraid of them. If only she could convince them all that animals weren’t so bad, then everything would be fine.
