Chapter 1
The Introduction
"Come on Rose. Get up!" My brother Braden said as he tried to shake me out of bed. "But Braden!" I groaned as I pulled the blanket over my head. "No Rose. It's time to get out of bed. Or would you rather me get mom in here?" He asked rhetorically. I growled at that remark, and I got up. "There are you happy?" I asked him unhappily. He smiled sarcastically and nodded as he made his way out of my room. I laughed as I rolled my eyes, and walked over to my closet. My room may have been all packed up for the trip back to school tomorrow, but it was still a little bit of a mess. "Rosealine!" My mother said as she pounded on my door. "What?" I shouted. "Get out here" She called angrily. When I was younger, I remember a time when she was never mad. But the thing is, she only despises me. When I opened the door, I saw my mother waiting angrily. Even though she was angry, she still looked beautiful. Her tanned skin made her dirty blonde, shoulder length hair, pop , and it framed her face beautifully. I was a few inches taller than my mother, and I was a few inches shorter than my Dad.
Luckily, Braden was standing a few feet behind Mom, and I silently thanked him. "Braden, why don't you go downstairs and get yourself something to eat" Mom offered happily. Braden leaned against the stair railing, and looked as if he was getting comfortable. "Sarah! Come on. We're going to be late!" Dad called unhappily. She growled at me, and smiled sweetly at Braden. "Be good kids" Dad shouted as he watched us from the door. We both leaned against the railing, and waved to Dad. When they were gone, I walked back into my room, and laid on my bed. "Why does she hate me Braden?" I asked sadly. "I don't know Rose. She never was like this when we were younger" He said unhappily. We spent a while talking, and then finally we decided to go visiting a few friends. "I'm going to Molly and Arthur's" I told him happily. "So am I" He said happily. "Why?" I asked slyly. "Cause I have to make sure you don't get yourself into trouble" He teased. I swung my arm towards him, and I made contact. When I looked, I saw him clutching his stomach dramatically. "You're such a Drama Queen!" I announced. "I resent that" He said as we got our brooms from the shed. "Why is Mom so against what I do?" I asked angrily. I saw any memory of my younger life in here. There were shelves that were covered in picture frames that had pictures of me in them. "Stop wondering Rose. You know what could happen" He said sadly. I nodded, and when we started flying to Molly's, we kept talking about what things we hoped were going to happen this year. "I wish I didn't have to leave you this year Rose" He sighed. I nodded, and I felt my eyes well up in tears. I blinked them back, and When I did, Braden saw. "I'm really going to miss you" He said sadly. "Ya. I kinda thought so" I said as I looked at his cheeks. They were covered in tears. I guess mine were too, because my cheeks were getting cold. We finally got to Molly's, and we say a little quidditch game going on. "Mind if we join in?" I shouted hopefully. I saw Fred, George, Ron, Harry and Ginny. "Sure. Not at all!" Ginny shouted excitedly. I flew back beside Ginny and hugged her. "How have you been?" I asked excitedly. All of a sudden, Ginny and I were talking nonstop. "OK KIDS!" Molly said as she opened the door to call out to her children, and Harry. "Hi Molly!" Braden said happily. "Oh. Hello Braden! Hello Rosealine" She said happily. "Are you by yourselves?" Molly asked concerned. "Mom and Dad had some stuff to do. So we decided to come here before we go back tomorrow" Braden answered happily. "Well, come on in!" She said happily. Braden looked at me, and I shrugged my shoulders. "It doesn't matter to me" I said happily. He nodded, and flew down to the ground, and set his broom beside the house. I smiled happily and did the same. "When are Mom and Dad supposed to get back?" I asked unhappily. "I have no clue" Braden said happily. I took his hint, and relaxed a little. "Ali!" Someone called excitedly. "Hey Hermione" I said as she hugged me from behind. "What're you doing here?" She asked curiously. "Mom and Dad aren't home, so we decided to come for a visit before school tomorrow" I said happily. She smiled, and I giggled. "What's so funny Rose?" Fred and George asked in unison. I looked at them, and then I burst out laughing. "What's wrong with her?" Ron asked as he walked out from the kitchen. "I have no idea" Hermione replied goofily. If I was trying to not start laughing, then I would've failed. "Hermione. Help her" Braden said as he started to laugh quietly. "Come on Rose" She said as we ran upstairs, and into the bathroom. When we got there, Hermione wasted no time to splash water on me. "T-than-k y-yo-ou" I said as I gasped for air. She giggled at my red face, and I rolled my eyes as I walked back downstairs. "You ok now?" Braden asked teasingly. "I am thanks" I said sweetly. He laughed at me as I laid on the couch beside him. "What's so funny?" I asked teasingly. "My little sister named Rosealine" He said as he looked at the clock. "When do we leave?" I asked unhappily. "Mom and Dad should be home by now, so we better get back" He sighed. "I don't wanna go" I whispered to him. Everything was silent for a minute, and then I heard Braden's. "I don't want you to either" He said softly. "Alright! Food's ready" Molly said happily. "I'm sorry Molly. Braden and I have to go" I said unhappily. She nodded understandingly, and I grabbed the floo powder knowingly. "I'll see you guys tomorrow" I said sadly. They all nodded, and when Braden and I got home, all the lights in the house were on. Braden wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and we walked in.
"Braden! Rosealine!" Dad said thankfully. Dad and Mom were cuddled on the couch together, and when we walked in, Mom's expression towards me was if she would kill me if she had the chance. "Where have you been?" Mom forced through her teeth angrily. "Molly's" Braden replied. "As long as you both are safe" Dad said as he nudged Mom not-so-discreetly. "As long as you're both safe" She agreed angrily. "Have you eaten?" Dad asked concerned. We nodded happily, and walked upstairs. "Stay with me" I whispered as I heard Mom's heels click up the stairs. "I wish I could, but if anything goes wrong, I'm in the room right beside you" He said reassuringly. I nodded, and laid on my bed comfortably, then I heard my door open with no warning. "Rosealine Proctor. You've ruined my attempt at a normal life with only a single child. Why couldn't you have just let me be happy?" She asked angrily. I knew what was going to happen next. "Silencio" She whispered as she pointed her wand at me. I didn't need to hear her voice to know what she said. The pain coursed through my body like electricity, and the pain was exceptionally different than all the other times. It was more horrendous than what it usually is. After about 15 minutes of me suffering, I felt a calmness hit me, and she took off the charm, and left the room without another word. A minute later, I was on my bed crying with Braden sitting beside me. "I shouldn't have left you alone" He said unhappily. I nodded as the tears rolled across my face. "I'm so sorry Ali" He sighed as he rubbed my thumbs across my face to wipe away my tears. "I think that you should get to sleep" He said unhappily. "Lock my door?" I asked hopefully. He nodded, and got off of my bed. "Night Rose" He said as he shut the light off. "Night Braden. Love you" I said sleepily. "Love you too sis" He said as he closed the door, and I heard that all to familiar click of the door, which I knew meant that I was safe for another night
