Chapter 1
Meeting Rosie
As I looked out the window of the moving car I couldn’t help but feel as though the universe was against me. What else was I meant to think? Everything I loved was taken away, or rather everyone.
After my dad died it was hard for everyone, he was respected among the members of the tribe. Harry was my anchor; he was the one I talked to about everything, even about girls. I know that talking with your dad about girls might seem dorky but he was my best friend too. Even through everything, the war, the wedding and his death I managed hold it together, and why? Well, her name was Rosie.
Flashback-
I was with a bunch of friends at the cliffs about to dive, and why we were doing it at night was a mystery to me but there was a few other people there too. The boys all jumped off with no second thought. I looked down and on a cliff a little lower was a girl. She looked about my age and had golden blonde hair that shone in the moonlight. I climbed down to the same level as her, when she saw me in the corner of her eye she flinched and started falling off but I reached out and grabbed her.
“Whoa, you ok?” I asked making sure she was alright
“Um, yeah thanks” she looked at me shortly before looking down at the water in fear
“I’m Seth by the way” I tried to distract her from the height
“Rosie” she was still scared
“Do you know that where ever you are in the world, when you look at the moon it’s never bigger than your thumb” I had meant it to be a fact but she started laughing
“You got that off the movie ‘Dear John’ didn’t you?” her smile was sweet
“You got me”
“Watch many chick flicks?” she joked with a playful smile
“Oh, all the time they’re my guilty pleasure” she laughed again before turning her eyes back to the water below scared “Tell you what, we’ll do it together” I suggested
“You mean jump? I don’t want to” she shook her head
“Then why are you here” I asked
“I don’t know” I held out my hand and she looked at it for what seemed like an hour before slowly taking it. I saw her breathing quicken and I squeezed her hand a little. At that she smiled a bit.
“Ready, on the count of two” I said getting ready
“Wait, what?” I stopped and looked at her “Count of two? No one goes on the count of two!” she laughed looking at me
“Well, then we’ll make it our thing” the smile I gave was cheeky
“That implies that we will see each other again, so how do you know?” she was getting cheeky now, and I liked it
“On the count of two” I avoided the question the annoy her and she rolled her eyes “Ready, one, two” with that we both launched off the cliff and held hands the whole way down. I felt the water as it caved in around us.
