Chapter 1

Fallen angels Guardian angels

There are two types of angels; Fallen angels and Guardian angels. Most people get it mixed up and say that there’s more than just two but that’s just the way it is.
Fallen angels are angels that have lost their place and have been cast down to our world. They are often mistaken for Dark angels, which don’t technically exist. Fallen angels don’t have to be bad, but most of them are anyways; trying to get revenge and all that.
Guardian angels are angels that have been sent to our world to take care of someone who has to serve a greater purpose in life. These are the people Fallen angels usually target. These are the people that angels call Paranormals.
This is a story about a girl named Brittany. She’s a Paranormal. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know why they picked her. She was the last person I would’ve picked; and you would probably not have given her a second glance either if you knew what her task was. For one, she was allergic to everything. She should’ve been in a plastic bubble but she was allergic to plastic, so she wasn’t. Second, she could barely hear in her right ear, so she had to have a hearing aid. But most importantly of all, she doesn’t believe in any of the superstitions at all. She doesn’t even believe in Friday the 13th. She is the worst person you could possibly pick for the job.
But, however she was picked; she was picked. And not only that, but Brittany was picked for the most important job of them all (which I’m not going to tell you). So that was probably why Brittany had a Guardian angel, although she didn’t know it because she wasn’t superstitious. She also had a Fallen angel, who thought she was a practical joke of some kind.
Her Fallen angel was Matt. He’s hard to describe. He makes the Grinch (the mean Grinch at the beginning of the movie not the nice sap at the end) look like… the nice Grinch. He’s the baddest of the bad; the Boss. He was the one who took out JFK (the press might have told you differently but this is how it actually happened) and Einstein (they probably also told you something different about him too but this is how he really died). Matt takes his job very seriously. And even if he thought Brittany was a practical joke, he still followed her all over the place. He could’ve taken her out easily; but he didn’t.
And the only reason he didn’t was probably because of her Guardian angel was also following her around, but in a more friendly way.
Brittany’s Guardian angel was Claire, who was really nice; much nicer then Matt (obviously). She had a clean record, which meant that no one Claire has guarded has failed their mission. So as soon as Claire was given her assignment; she became friends with Brittany in a flash and now had a good reason for sticking by her side everywhere. This really bugged Matt (duh) so he started moving in.

Brittany had just invited Claire over for the night. She had never met anyone quite like Claire. Claire talked to her, didn’t think she was a freak, and was actually really nice. Brittany was so happy that she actually had a friend.
Brittany lived a mile from Phoenix, Arizona, right next to a beautiful lake. The lake had a tree next to it and the mountains in the background behind. And some nights, Brittany could’ve sworn (but she didn’t swear) that the sky lit up with a brilliant blue light. The last time Brittany thought this happened was the day before she met Claire. Since Brittany wasn’t superstitious, she didn’t think Claire had anything to do with the light.
The two girls walked in the house. Brittany called out to her parents, who didn’t reply. While Claire was hanging up her coat and backpack, Brittany walked into the kitchen to see where her parents were. Brittany screamed. Claire ran in.
Brittany’s parents were there, with slit throats. Matt was also there, looking pleased with himself.
Claire stepped protectively in front of Brittany, blocking her from Matt. “What do you want, Fallen?”
Matt gave a little chuckle, “I’m sure you of all people would know the answer to that one.” He nodded towards Brittany, “is she the one I’ve been hearing so much about? Is she the Paranormal?”
Claire didn’t respond, just narrowed her eyes at him. Brittany had (almost) gotten over the fact that her parents were murdered and piped up, “What does he mean, Claire? Is he the one who did… this?” Matt laughed.
“I’ve been waiting for three months for the opportune moment and here it is. Why do you think, Paranormal, that Claire has been following you around for the past three months? She was never your friend! She was just a Guardian.”
Claire was concentrating even harder. Brittany was confused even more, “What did he just call me? Why is he here? Was it true what he said?”
Claire turned a half-turn to where Brittany was standing behind her, never taking her eyes off Matt. “He called you a Paranormal. You may have stared out as my job, but now that I’m friends with you… it’s more than a job now.” With that she focused all her energy on Matt again. He didn’t even notice what she was doing.
Brittany was still appalled, “I don’t understand! Tell me what’s going on Claire! Tell me what’s going on right now!”
The next few moments happened so quickly no one was sure it actually happened: the house around Matt exploded, Claire and Brittany disappeared and a ton of other Guardian angels burst through the door and were advancing on Matt. No one, not even Claire (who set up the ambush) saw it coming.
Claire and Brittany disappeared and reappeared at the lake, by the tree.
There, because they were momentarily safe, Claire explained everything to Brittany. She told Brittany about angels, Fallen and Guardian; she told Brittany about Paranormals; she told Brittany about Matt and who he was and herself and who she was. Brittany just sat there on the grass, asking questions when necessary, but mostly just listening.
After a long time of explaining…
Brittany was silent for a long time after Claire had finished. Brittany looked up at the sky, expecting to see that brilliant blue light again, but nothing happened. She finally spoke, “So… are we safe?”
Claire was staring at the sky too, “For now. The other angels would have subdued Matt. He won’t bother you for a while. But he’ll be back; probably with more Fallen angels. You can be sure of it.”
Brittany nodded. Then spoke up again, “Claire?” Claire looked at Brittany, “Yes?”
Brittany looked at Claire, “You never did tell me what my task as a Paranormal was.”
The unspoken question hung in the air between them, and Claire stared at the sky. After a lot of thinking she turned towards Brittany, smiling.
“You have to save the world.”
