My name is Miu Shizuka. I live in an orphanage, I have since I was a baby. I am alone, I have no friends. I am 13, and I have never been adopted before. I am different.
5:00 in the morning, I stumble downstairs to the kitchen to help with breakfast, as usual. I am the oldest one here, at Master Kenzo's orphanage. The only people who seem to apreciate me being here are the cooks, and Sayuri, my 3 year old friend, who thinks of me as an older sister. I set out our food, then go upstairs to wake the others. I go my usual rounds, waking the 10 year olds up first so they can help the younger ones, then making my way through the house to wake up Sayuri.
"Sayuri, honey, wake up," I whisper into her ear.
"Miu," she whispers back "is it food time?"
"yes, Sayuri, it is morning food time." I help her up, and pick up her clothes that Master Kenzo chose for us to wear today. It is a speacial day today, the day of the Cherry Blossom's blooming into cherries, and her outfit is a light pink kimono with red cherry petals, matching my peachy colored one, with pink petals.
Like usual, we are the last ones downstairs. I finish eating before Sayuri, so I braid her long, black hair and tie it with a matching pink ribbon, before moving on to the others, then finaly onto my hair.
Once we are done with breakfast, we line up, Sayuri tightly gripping my hand, and head ouside to the garden, where we find Master Kenzo sitting at the head of a circle of mats under the lone cherry tree. We sit through the usual ceremony, and in the end, we all take a flowering blossom and tuck it behind our right ear. We start to get up to go back inside, when Master Kenzo pulls me aside.
"Miu, I have something to tell you," he says, sternly staring at me.
"Yes sir?"
"You are different than others,"
"W...w...what do you mean, sir"
"You have special powers."
I stare at him in confusion, then he continued.
"You know how you hair is orange, unlike every one else?" I nodd in agreement. "well, you have the element power fire"
I stare at him, I could feel my big brown eyes widen even more. He nods at me, signaling my permission to go inside.
What am I going to tell Sayuri?
