"Picking A Name"
A Loseph One Shot.
Chapter 1
Non Existent.
Being 8 and a half months pregnant and not having a name to name your child is a worry. Most parents to be leave it to the last minute, some even have their names before they even have kids. But Joe and I want to have it planned so their is no confusion.
You know, I still can't believe that I'm having a baby with the man of my dreams. I would have never thought that I would be having a baby at all. And here I am trying to pick out a name with Joseph Walker, who's middle name is Schwartz.
"Lauren, what about Vincent" Joe said. I looked at him funny.
"Joe, we don't even know if we are having a boy. We need a boy and girl name. "But not names that are like 1000 years old." I said as I shook my head.
I was looking through a Baby Name book, I thought that they were supposed to make these books to make it easier for you, but they are a load of rubbish.
Joe and I were sitting in the lounge, flicking through the 6 Baby Name books we have, and then there was a knock at the door. I tried to get up, but Joe saw me struggle and he laughed as he got up.
"What are you laughing at?" I scoffed. He didn’t answer, my hormones were everywhere at the moment.
"Who is it?" I yelled.
"It's Julia and Joey" he yelled back.
Once again I tried to get up, without success. Julia and Joey entered laughing.
"Shut up. It is not my fault that I'm a Whale. It's his." I pointed to Joe. He rolled his eyes.
"Whats up guys" Joe said, walking to help me up, I was starting to cramp.
"We just popped over to see how you two were going. And wondered if you have picked a name yet?" Julia said.
"It is so hard, I wish I had done it when I was younger, then I wouldn’t be in this mess." I shouted from the kitchen.
"Okay. Well we brought you something, well not you, baby Walker." Julia and Joey said together.
So that is why they came over, to bring baby Walker a present. You know me, I love getting presents, even if it isn't for me.
"Guys, you shouldn't have. We don't even know what we are having yet" I said gently.
"I know, but I saw it and I couldn't resist." Julia said.
From behind her back she pulled out a baby bag, it had a cute cartoon baby on it, with a blue pacifier in its mouth. I started to cry.
"Babe, are you okay?" Joe asked.
"I'm fine, just the hormones." I said.
Julia handed me the bag. I gently opened it and reached into never last emptiness. When I finally reached the bottom I felt the soft material that was baby clothes, including something hard.
"Apparently you are supposed to have an outfit that you put the baby in to bring home from the hospital. I know you have probably one already.."
I started to cry again, because I didn't have an outfit to put baby Walker in when he/she was born, I forgot. I lifted out the clothes, still weeping. It was a White outfit, including; a White tee with Blue stripes around the sleeves, White pants that had Blue stripes on it also at the bottom. It came with a Blue hat and and pair of Blue and White shoes. I was still crying too.
"I know it is White and Blue, but I heard that you can dress a girl in Blue too so."
"Thank you so much Juls. Joe and I had forgotten about the outfit" I said in between sniffs.
"You’re welcome Lauren. I love you so much kid." Julia said.
"We have to go okay. But good luck, and make sure that you call all of us when you go into labour. We all want to be there when it happens. I still can't believe that Joseph Walker is going to be a Dad." Joey said all at once.
They both kissed me goodbye and wished us both luck. By the time that they left it was 9:00pm and Joe and I still didn't have names. I was in the kitchen making something to eat when it came to me; I have our baby’s name.
"Joe!" I shouted from in the kitchen. I heard Joe rushing down the stairs.
"WHAT! What, are you okay? Are you going into labour?" he screamed.
"No, calm down. I have thought of names." I said, eating my Ice Cream Sundae.
"Jeez, I thought that you were going into laubour. Don't do that again." he said sitting down in the lounge.
"What are they?" Joe asked.
I smiled and sat down next to him, gently. I wasn't as mobile as I once was. Joe was sat on his side with the arm over the back of the couch, and he placed his giant hand on my stomach. I finished the last mouth full of Ice Cream and placed the bowel next to me. I watched Joe as he stroked my belly, it was comforting.
"Okay, tell me" Joe said, and then he kissed my bump that contained our baby.
"Alright, don't tell me what you think until I've finished" I said and Joe nodded in agreement.
"For a girl; Grace-Louise May. And for a boy; Mitchel Joseph James." I said looking into his blue eyes.
"Lauren, where did you get them from" Joe asked.
"I was that the shopping mall the other day with my mom, and I saw this little girl, she saw beautiful, blonde with blue eyes. And then her mom called her, her name was Louise. And I liked it, but not a a first name, as a second name. So I was racking my brain for names that I had seen in the books before, and then Grace popped into my head. So Grace-Louise was made, and then I added May. And with Mitchel Joseph James. I went to Primary School with a kid called Mitchel and he was so so so sweet. And Joseph is after you and James is common sense. What do you think?" I said, waiting for a response.
I watched him as he thought about the names. And then a smile grew widely across his face.
"I love them Lauren. They are perfect, for our bundle." he said.
I smiled. He leaned into me, kissing me passionately. It got me all hot and bothered. Then all of a sudden I got a wired feeling, like a weight that had been lifted.
"Joe. Joe stop" he continued.
"Joe, I said stop!" I said.
"What's the matter?" he asked nervously.
"I think my waters just broke!" I said looking down at my belly. You sure got timing Walker. Joe was rushing around like a headless chicken. Luckily I have had my hospital bag packed for a while.
"Joe, calm down. The contractions aren't that bad. Go upstairs and get my bag, a pillow and my cell." I said calmly. He rushed upstairs and gathered what we needed. I got up and walked over to the stairs, I grabbed the banister and leaned against it in pain.
"OH MY GOD" I screamed. And then it stopped, I started to cry because it was my first contraction, and not because it hurt but because it was the start of Joe and mine’s new life. Joe rushed down the stairs, nearly breaking his neck. He gave me my cell and we went out to the car.
I was worried because I was 6 weeks early. I got into the car and did a mass text message, to everyone.
"Hi guys, big news.
We have gone into labour.
Joe and I are going to be parents. Love you all"
"SHIIT!" I screamed in pain. Making Joe swerve on the road.
"What is that? Like, 7 minutes. I think that is a good thing." he said.
We arrived at the hospital and as soon as I got out I had another contraction.
"UGH!!! Jeezus." I grabbed on to Joe, digging my nails into him.
"LAUREN! Nails." he said in pain.
"Okay, 5 minutes. Lets go." I said, waddling to the french automatic doors.
We made out way to the front desk. We didn't need to say anything, they could tell by the look and Joe's face.
"How fair apart are you contractions?" The receptionist asked.
"Erm, 5.. JEEZUS!" I lent in to the desk.
"Make that 4 minutes." I said as I finished.
They brought me a wheelchair and wheeled me to the Maternity ward. Joe help my hand as I started to breath deeply.
"God, another one. Walker is coming." I said. I changed into a robe and laid on the bed. My Midwife checked to see how far I was dilated.
"9cm's." she said. I started to cry, yet again.
Crying because Joe and I are going to be parents within minutes. He was sitting on the chair next to my bed. I saw the head Midwife bring in a cot, that will soon hold our little bundle. Then all of a sudden, a gigantic contraction and I am pretty sure my last one.
"Candice, I need to push. Like NOW!" I screamed.
"Okay Lauren" she checked and I was now 10cm's.
This was it. Joe and I are going to be parents…
1 hour later.
I looked down at the wrapped bundle in my arms. I was a mom and Joe was a dad. I couldn't believe it. Joe was sitting next to me, playing with the hand of our little Walker that has poked out of the white woolen blanket.
Grace-Louise May Walker was born at 11:45pm on January 19th 2012. Weighing 6lb and 5oz. Brown eyes with Brown fuzzy hair, and 30cm's long.
I placed her in Joe's arms, slumped back into my bed with tired eyes and watched him as he smiled and whispered to our daughter..
"Welcome to the world Grace-Louise" he said calmly and softly.
I cried and laughed at the same time, wiping my tears away. Joe walked over to me and kissed me with a force that I have never felt before. And something told me that we would be back here very soon, doing the same thing.
He handed Grace back to me and sat next to me, wrapping his arm around me, I had forgotten what it felt like.
"I love you" he said, looking at me. I looked up at him with a smile.
"I love you too Joe" and he kissed me again.
Grace-Louise let out a noise as if to say, "I love you" back to us. We laughed and Joe kissed our daughter on the forehead and she fell back to sleep in my arms.
