Chapter 1
Am I Proud Of My Country
Some could say that I love my country. While others say I honor or I’m proud of my country. Well in truth, I’m proud; I love and I honor my country. The US has gone through many hard troubles to gain its freedom. I’m also proud of our accomplishments and of the men and woman who fought for our beliefs. In many ways, I have an insight into this.
My dad is in the Air Force. He may not have to fight with a machine gun or fly as a fighter pilot, but he helps his country in other ways. He helps soldiers that are overseas and take care of what he has to do. I don’t like it when he leaves home for a TDY or a deployment, but I know he does it for his country. My dad is a role model to me and lets me have a profound insight on this kind of subject.
As a military child, I have a very deep understanding of freedom and the need to do what is right. I understand on a deeper level that when I think of the US, I think of freedom. As a country we have overcome obstacles and hurdles, from our Revolutionary War to The Vietnam War, to be who we are today. If it weren’t for my country’s founding fathers, we would still be part of England.
I know what it’s like to see a loved one go off to another country, not knowing if they are going to come back alive or worrying about whether they get shot by a terrorist. Although there may be many of things that could happen, I always hope for the best, and know that I don’t have the power to change what happens. All I know is that they do leave family to do their job.
So when people ask me, am I proud of my country, all I can say is yes. I love what the US has become today and hope that it will become even better in the future. In many ways, you can compare the US to our national bird, the bald eagle. My country, is free, and is one of the top predators. We come to many other countries to help them. I see that the US’s history sets examples for other countries and that is why I’m proud of my country.
