This is a short story about how to tell your parents you have a crush or a boy has a crush on you.

Chapter 1

Telling your parents.

The rain poured down. I could hear it through my window. My parents had gone on a date that night and I was feeling lonely. I had decided that I was going to tell my parents about my boyfriend. I was going to tell them that a boy asked me out and I wanted to say yes. He was a good guy. He was the captain of the sports team and he was getting straight A’s. According to my friends he had never really dumped a girl.
He was the kind of person that you could trust. I knew that for a fact. I had been dating him for almost two weeks but I didn’t know what to do. I had decided that night that I couldn’t keep it a secret. I wasn’t going to lose my parents trust just because of a Schoolgirl Crush.
The minutes seemed like hours. Finally I heard a car door slam. I rushed down stairs so that I would look busy. I already had soup in the crock pot. I started stirring and tasting it. It was quite good but I was too busy waiting for my parents to walk through the door.
The door opened and I held my breath.
Sweetie, were home. My dad’s voice echoed through the house. I didn’t bother answering because he walked through the living room and into the kitchen two seconds later.
Sit down and I will get you some soup. I told my parents. They had gone to a movie but they hadn’t planned on getting anything to eat.
Great, I’m starving, my dad said with a smile as he planted a kiss on my forehead.
I brought three bowls to the table with large soup spoons. I made another trip with the French bread and saltines.
I have to talk to you guys, I said to my parents really serious but also with an innocent look on my face.
Ya know how I am 13. I said. My parents nodded. They seemed oblivious to where this was going as they sipped their soup.
There is this boy at school who likes me, the words sounded better in my head. I squeaked them out one by one. He asked me to be his girl friend today and I have to give him an answer. I let all my air out at once. My parents looked up from their soup. I had never had this conversation before so I didn’t know if that was good or bad.
Okay, tell us about this boy, my mom said in an understanding voice.
Well, I started. He is the captain of the football team, he is getting straight A’s and he is really nice. I said.

Hummmmm… my father said.
If he isn’t too busy with practice then why don’t you have him over tomorrow for dinner and we will see how he is and then we will give you our answer? I nodded my head in approval.

REMEMBER-REMEMBER The worst your parents could do is say no... but unless you ask they can't say yes either.

HINT-HINT From my experience, most parents started going steady "what we call going out" when they were in 7th and 8th grade.
