Ripple_The_Llama: 02-04-2012 at 5:36 PMCoal the the most common mineral in the game. There is no way to make it, but it can be found easily. It looks like stone, but with black patches in it. It can be found on mountain sides where the stone is showing, or underground in caves. Quite often it can be found at the very beginning of a cave, close to the surface, so you won't have to go deep to find it. You need at least a wooden pickaxe to mine it, or the block will just disappear.

Free_Wolf: 02-05-2012 at 7:47 AMYou can't make coal, but if you dig a little in the mountains, you'll find a grey rock with little black bits inside, that's coal. You don't even need to dig very deep, and it's possible to find some without even having to dig ;)

AllThatsLeftOfYesterday: 02-06-2012 at 12:34 AMIf you are anywhere near mountains or caves you can just explore them and usually there will be some coal showing. Coal is basically stone with black bits in it, you'll know it if you see it. You need at some kind of pick axe to mine it, otherwise you can't collect it. The easiest pick axe to make is a wooden one, made from sticks and wood.

teke0884: 05-15-2012 at 2:56 PMyou can put wood into a furnace (NOT WOODEN PLANKS) and burn them. Or if you're next to a nice mountain, there is usually coal exposed on the sides of them.
