Chapter 1

Bad buyers

"We'll take it." They said. The realtor looked relieved to have the house off her hands.

"Good, now why don't we go inside and you can sign the papers." I sighed. Of course, they ALWAYS pick the old rusty houses. Ignoring my parents as they followed Ms. Wickers to the kitchen to sign the papers, I headed off to explore the house. Music blasting in my ears, I didn't notice the person standing in one of the bedroom. I just happened to see her at the corner of my eye. When I looked at her, she stared at me with a horrid look on her face.

GET OUT!! She was giving off the energy of anger and sadness. Get out and don't ever come back! She started to scream, which was too loud for my ears to handle. I covered my ears, trying to get rid of the sound. She moved towards me, fast. Startled, I backed up and hit the stairs. I stumbled a few steps before turning and running down as fast as I could. Once outside, I ran across the street and turned to face the house. My parents came out running after me.

"Mikki? What's wrong?" My mother asked. i stood there, panting. My ears ringing, I spotted the women staring at me through the second story window. Scared, I pointed to her and looked at my father.

"There's a ghost there." I panted. "She screamed at me to get out." I looked up again, but she wasn't there. I frowned and straightened up.

"Ms. Justice, I assure you. There is no one in that house." Ms. Wickers looked at me with a concerned look that I suddenly-I don't know how-knew was fake.

"But, I'm positive. There's a woman in that building." My father sighed and pat my back.

"Don't worry, dear. It's probably just new town jitters. We're not bad buyers, dear." I scoffed.

"You're not even listening to me." My mother gasped and hugged me.

"Of course we are. We just think your ideas are ridiculous." I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, thanks mom. Look at you, always to the rescue." My mother smiled and pat my cheek.

"That's the spirit." They turned to Ms. Wickers and started talking to her about the new things in town. Zoning out their sound, I looked up at the house to see the woman again. Her eyes were bloodshot as she stared at me with sadness. For some reason, I felt like I knew her, like we were friends before she died. I want to see if she'll talk to me before my parents and I drive back to our town 50 miles away.

"You're right. There is no one else in that house." I walked up the my father and asked him if I could look around the house again. He nodded and I headed inside, leaving my music in my pocket not playing.
