"Coming, mother!" I called down the stairs. I heard her and father getting everything ready to aparate to the train station. Making sure my outfit was good, I headed down after my house elf, Ferly, took my stuff downstairs.

"You ready, Dana?" My father said. I smiled and nodded. He walked over to me and my mother and we headed to the Hogwarts train for me to go to my first year of school. Everything was perfectly normal. Standing around talking, waiting for the train to blow the whistle. Well, everything was normal until my father mention something I don't think was very nice.

"I'm sorry, father. I wasn't paying attention. Could you say that again?" He looked at me in disapproval.

"I said, stay away from the mudbloods. I don't want you catching their disease." I rolled my eyes and just to please him, I answered in the same tone.

"Don't worry, father. I'll be sure to stay away from them." I started for the train, wanting to find an empty compartment.

"Dana." I heard my mother call out. I turned around and waited for my mother to catch up to me.

"Yes, mother?" I asked politely. She smiled and hugged me. When she hugged me, she whispered in my ear.

"I hear Harry Potter is going to Hogwarts. Make friends with him and have him realize that mudbloods are the worst. But be sure to stay away from the blood traitors and mudbloods." I sighed and nodded. She sighed and kissed me on my forehead. "Alright. Off you go." I smiled and skipped to the train. Once inside, I headed to find a compartment that had people I knew or empty. Upon finding one empty, I sat in it and stared out the window.

What was Hogwarts going to be like? Is it going to be fun? Worthwhile? Will I have friends? What house am I going to be in? Would my parents be disappointed in me if I go into Gryffindor? How will I make it through the years without parents? All these thoughts swirled in my brain, making me unaware of the people standing outside the door.

"Um, could-could we come in?" Startled, I motioned them in without realizing who they were. One messy-black-haired boy, one redhead, and one bushy-haired girl. They all sat across from me and the silence became awkward.

"So..." I started. "You guys first years?" They looked at each other and back to me.

"Yeah." The girl reached her hand out. "I'm Hermione Granger." Granger. I remember mother saying to stay away from mudbloods.

"Ron Weasley." Blood traitor.

"Harry Potter." The legend. Without thinking, I opened my mouth.

"The mudblood, blood traitor, and the legend. Perfect." Ron started to get mad.

"Don't bloody call us that!" Scared, I looked at the three of them and covered my mouth. What the heck did I just say?

"I'm-I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. It's just-" I squirmed in my seat. "I was raised that way. You see, my parents were in Slytherin when they were in Hogwarts. I never really liked their ways, but I respected them." Feeling like I said too much, I sat back and watched the fields pass by silently.

"It's okay. I mean, you don't even know us yet. Why judge someone by what you see and hear? Got to get to know them first." Hermione said, sitting next to me.

"So, you never told us your name." Harry said scooting closer to the edge of his seat.

"Oh, how rude of me. Uh, my name is Dana. Dana Masters." He smiled. For the rest of the way, we talked and laughed and had a great time. For the first time in ages, I felt like I had friends. My heart was warmed by the thought. It was soon gone when we reached Hogwarts. There, we waited in front of the doors to be Sorted in out houses.
