Chapter 1

D.A.I.U.A

“How could this have possibly happened?” That’s what I was thinking when I was locked inside my own basement, listening to the sounds of people screaming. “Great” I said out loud. “Just great.” This was all my fault and now innocent people were dying out there. And I couldn’t do a thing about it. “No.” I thought to myself, “Not this time.” I stood up. I wasn’t going to let them push me around anymore than they already did. I walked over to the door and started pounding on the door and screaming nonsense. All of a sudden, the screaming and the dark laughter stopped. Then, one of them opened the door. I recognized him. Matt. My former best friend. Emphasis on the FORMER. Okay I guess since you know all this stuff, you should know how it happened.

Okay, first of all, my name is Kat. I am thirteen, and in seventh grade. Let’s see, its summer now so, about a week ago, my best friend since first grade, was acting freaky. His name is Matt and he was the coolest person alive. He was the kind of person who you could talk to. He would always listen, and never judge. I guess he was kinda cute but, I just thought of him as a brother. I guess I was an “emo” loner, but Matt didn’t care. Everyone else did though. They made fun of me, called me names and sometimes, even beat me up. The first time I got beat up, I cried. But, as they started to be more regular, I stopped. I just stood there and occasionally fought back. But it would never do any good. They were just too strong. But, on one special day, Matt changed. A lot.

It was Wednesday, and I was standing at my locker, trying to be invisible. Suddenly, my head got slammed into my locker. Then, I got kicked in my spine. I fell forward and busted my nose. Okay, I have had enough. I stood up and punched my attacker in the face. It was Keith. I hate Keith. When I punched him, he looked shocked. Then, I kicked him in the stomach. He fell to the ground.
I leaned down and looked in his eyes. I said to him, “I have endured that kind of treatment for three years now you know how I feel every second of the day. I live in fear. But not anymore.” I practically screamed that last part and he flinched. He looked really hurt. Good. I thought. He should be. I looked up at his goons. I gave them a death glare. They ran off. I smirked. Keith was still on the ground. I sighed. I held my hand out to him. I pulled him up and took my hand away. I looked him right in the eye and said, “You ever push me around again, it’ll be much worse.” I growled with a dark look in my eyes. I turned around and started to walk away from him when he grabbed my arm. I yanked my arm out of his grasp and glared. I’m getting pretty good at glaring. “What?!” I yelled. He said “Why did you stand up to me.” I looked at him like he was on steroids. “ Because you always beat me up, call me “emo” and yell at me! I’ve had enough!” This time, I turned and ran away.

When I got to class I ran smack into Matt. “HIIIIII!” I screamed. He turned around and stared daggers at me, not saying anything. “Well someone’s a grumpy.” I pouted. He just said, in a flat voice, “Kat I don’t think we should hang out anymore.” My eyes went wide for three reasons. Number one: He was always hyper and always screamed along with me. Number two: He never called me Kat. EVER. He always either called me Kitty, or Unicorn. And, Number three: he was with Keith.

Keith looked at me and said to Matt, “Lay off her.” I looked at Keith and said, “Oh so after I make you bleed, you stand up for me? That makes less than no sense.” Keith stood up and looked me in the eye. He said “Kitty, I’m sorry I was a buttmunch to you. I was stupid.” I looked at him, trying to find a hint of lies. He looked completely sincere.” Okay. I forgive you. But this does not mean I feel sorry for makin’ you bleed earlier.” “Fine. I can respect that.” I covered my mouth to keep from laughing. But it didn’t work. Keith looked confused. “What?” He asked. “Y-you can r-respect it? Haaaahhaaaaa!” Matt was starring daggers at me. Huh. Twice in one day. Matt stood up and walked away.
My other friend Anna got up and walked away too. So did all of my other friends. And they all shot me a death glare. Wow. And I thought I was good at those. Keith saw me looking over at them and he said “Don’t worry about them, they’re just d-“ He stopped himself then smiled. “Never mind.”

The day actually got stranger from there. Anytime someone would call me names or yell at me, Keith would glare daggers at them. Man what is it with everybody and daggers today! Geez! Keith followed me to my locker and my curiosity got the best of me. I stopped walking. Keith stopped too. “What?” He asked. “Why are you being so nice to me? You always beat me up and called me emo and stuff like that.” Keith sighed. He looked me in the eyes. Okay what is with people looking other people in the eyes today! Gosh! “I did it because I like you. A lot. And I didn’t think you liked me. So I kinda got mad at you. And everybody else. That’s why everyone is afraid of me.”

I blushed. “Are you joking? Or pulling a prank? Cause if you are, it’s not funny” I said. Keith said “No I am most definitely not pulling a prank.” I laughed nervously. I looked down at my shoes. Keith whispered, “Will you go out with me? Please?” I blushed even more. “Yes.” I whispered. Then, it all went black.

When I woke up, I still had my eyes closed. I was about to open them when I heard some voices. “Why did you do this?” an angry man said. “Because she was about to agree to go out with that dog.” Matt said. Wait what! MATT!!!! Oh my God when I get out of here, I am going to murder him so hard! Speaking of which, where the heck am I??? My eyes adjusted to the light and I saw Keith. He was tied to a chair and he was knocked out. I tried to move my arms and found that I was tied to a chair too! I tried to break free and it worked! “Wow.” I said aloud. “Cheap rope.” “Hmm.” I said. Since the rope was so easy to break… I stomped really hard on the chair. It crumbled into dust. I laughed. Wow, if these people are trying to be the “bad guys”, they’re not doing it too well.
I looked over at Keith. He was out cold. Wait a second, this place looks awfully familiar. I squinted and looked at everything. O.M.G. We are in my basement!!! I groaned. This couldn’t possibly get worse. Just then I heard the door open. Then I heard voices. I heard girls giggling and dudes yelling. Great. Note my sarcasm. I was gonna get in huge trouble! My mom isn’t home, she’s on a business trip. Oh I can hear the conversation now: Mom: Why did you have a party? Me: Oh it wasn’t me mom. You see, I got locked in the basement with a kid from school who used to try and murder me. And oh yeah Matt was up there too! Yeah, that’ll go over well. I sat on the ground and started to cry.

As I was crying, I heard different sounds coming from upstairs. Instead of talking and giggling, I heard faint screams and dark laughter. I looked at him. He wasn’t my friend. Heck, I didn’t even know what he was anymore. He had red eyes, and black hair. And he even had black wings. “What. The. Heck.” “Oh my God! Kitty!” Yelled Matt. “Come on! Join the par-tay!” I stood there staring at him. “What?” He asked. “Who are you?” He opened his mouth but before he talked, I started again. “Because you are definitely not the Matt that used to be my best friend.” He sighed. “Unicorn, I gotta tell you something. “I’m a demon. And so are you.”

I burst out laughing. “Kitty, you are a demon.” Matt said to me. “No I’m not. I think I would know if I was a demon!” “Okay, Unicorn. You are super strong. You broke chains and a metal chair in the basement. We shot you with a knock-out dart that should last for three days. You woke up after three hours.”
“Matt”- I tried interrupting him but he started talking again. “You beat up Keith!” “Yeah, and I actually enjoyed it!” He stared at me. “You enjoyed it?” “Dur!” I shouted into his face. “So does this mean we’re good now?” Matt asked me? “We’re only okay if you tell me why you were so mean to me in class.” “Okay well I gotta tell you something first.” Matt told me. “Okay, shoot.” “Well, umm...” He was stalling. “Matt! Just say it before the unicorn inside me comes out and eats you!” “NO! AYTHING BUT THE UNICORN! AHHHH!” Matt screamed, getting looks from all the other “demons”. “Okay okay okay. Keith is a werewolf.” My jaw dropped and I began laughing hysterically. “Okay if you’re gonna do that every time I tell you something, I won’t talk to you anymore!” My face scrunched up into fake pain and I started fake crying. “No! Please! Wah wah wah wah wah” then I stopped. “Omigod!” I screamed. Matt freaked out and started shaking me. “WHAT’S WRONG UNICORN!!!!?????” I spoke in a normal tone. “Well if you would quit shaking me I WOULD TELL YOU!!!” He stopped. “Oh. Sorry.” He whispered. “So what’s wrong?” He asked, this time not shaking the life out of me! “Well, Keith is still kinda LOCKED IN THE BASEMENT!” I yelled in his face. “Oh crap! I forgot! Yeah you can go let him out. Oh, but you’re gonna need this.” He handed me a syringe filled with clear liquid. “What’s this?” I asked. “Oh, we had to shoot him with a twelve hour knock-out dart, since he’s a werewolf. That’s the antidote.” I looked at the syringe. “Oh. That’s…nice.” “Okay, listen. When you bring him up here, he’s still gonna be a bit groggy. He’s not gonna know about all this. I mean, he does. But he’s gonna forget until it wears off.” “Wow. Lotta words there. But I think I got it.”

I walked down the stairs. “Hello?” I said to the darkness.

Keith’s Point of View
When I woke up, Kat was gone. I tried to move but I wasn't a wolf so I wasn't strong enough. I looked over at her chair and chains. My eyes almost popped out of my head.
Her chair was a pile of crumbled dust. And her chains were snapped in half. Oh crap. If she could do that, that means she’s a supernatural. So she’s a werewolf, vampire, or the worst: a demon. Man, I hate demons more than I hate vampires. Which, for a werewolf, is pretty hard core. I heard the door open and I smelled two smells. One: an evil, dark scent. And two: a sweet tangy scent. Crap, I knew what both of those scents mean. The evil scent meant demons. The sweet scent meant my mate.

I heard someone come down the stairs. I smelled demon. Just as I was about to go all wolf, I heard a voice. “Hello?” Oh God no. It’s Kat. She’s a demon and she’s my mate. She walked down the steps and I pretended to still be knocked out. “Omigod.” She whispered. I opened my eyes a little and what I saw shocked me. I expected her hair to be black, her eyes to be red and her to have black wings sprouting from her back. But instead, she looked all normal. She actually looked frightened. She was staring at the pile of broken chair pieces and chains. “No, no, no. I don’t want to be a stupid freaking demon!” Wait. She didn’t want to be a demon? That’s freaking strange. Usually, when people find out that they’re a demon spawn or whatever, they love it. They’re all: “Oooo! Yea! I get to murder people! Great!” She just sat down on the floor and cried.

She cried for a while then said “Oh, right.” She held up a syringe. Then she squinted and looked closer, at the label. “What the heck?” She said. “Why is this labeled ‘Kat’s Tears’? What the freak!” I thought “Why is she gonna inject me with her tears? Break it.” She looked at the syringe and said “What the heck kind of glass is this?” She turned it over and found another label. “Okay, so it’s called ‘The Glass That Can’t Ever Be Broken’ that’s a wonderful name.” She said sarcastically. “Well. We’ll see about that.” She said, smiling. She stood up and put the syringe in the palm of her hand. CRUNCH!!!! I flinched. That was the loudest crunch ever. When I opened my eyes I saw her hand. Her bloody ,glass-filled hand.
She was holding back tears. “Well, that wasn’t the smartest thing that I could’ve done. Ow.” She whimpered. Then, she said “Omigod.” I saw the glass coming up out of her hand and turned them into flowers. “What the H-E- DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS IS GOING ON?!?!? She screamed. I heard a demon come down. Matt. Of course. “What the heck did you do?” He asked her. “Well, I um…like crushed the syringe in my hand and umm….my hand kinda got all bloody and had glass all in it and it hurt and stuff…and then the glass raised up off my hand and turned into…like flowers and stuff.” He stared at her. She looked at him like he was crazy. Okay that was enough. I sprung out of my chair. Kat screamed then punched me in the face. “OW!” I screamed. She just socked me in the face. And it HURT! “What the freaking h-e-double hockey sticks!” she yelled. “You just socked me in the face!” I yelled back. “Well sorry! I thought you were like knocked out!” she twirled around and faced Matt. “And you!” She yelled. “Why would you tell me to inject my tears into Keith! That makes no sense! ARRRGGG!!!!!” she was screaming now. All of a sudden, Kat’s eyes went wide and she started shaking. “What’s going on?” I asked her. She didn’t reply. She backed up against the wall and slid down onto the floor. She curled up into a ball and shook even more. “Oh God no.” I heard Matt whisper. “What?” I asked him. He turned to me and said, “She’s Changing.”

About two minutes later, she stopped shaking and sat up. We stared at her. Her hair had gotten longer and had faint pink streaks in it. She had huge, beautiful purple wings. Her eyes stayed the same, but there was a faint pink sparkle in them. “What the heck.” She whispered. “Umm…Unicorn.” Matt said. Unicorn? What the heck. Why does he call her that. “You might actually kinda umm…be a unicorn demon.” He whispered. She stood up. “So what does that mean?” She asked. “It means that you’re a special kind of demon. You don’t need blood. You don’t have killing sprees. But you do have violent mood swings.” Matt said. As if to prove his point, Kat smacked him in the face, then hugged him. The she screamed really, really loud, “I LOVE MOOD SWINGS AND UNICORN DEMONS!”

The Next Day
Kat’s Point of View
When I woke up in the morning, I couldn’t remember if it was all a dream or not. Suddenly, I felt sick. I rushed into the bathroom and puked. I was about to go clean it up, when I looked at it. I screamed and Matt ran into the room. “What?!” He yelled. I looked up at him. “Okay first of all, WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE??? And second of all, I THREW UP A RAINBOW!” I screamed at him. He looked embarrassed. “I umm…may have forgotten to mention that hehehehe.” He said, looking at his shoes. I stood up and slapped him across his face. It left a red mark…shaped like a unicorn! “AHHHHHHH!!!!” Matt screamed. “That hurt really bad!” I looked at his cheek. The unicorn was like, burned on his face. “Umm…Matt?” I said to him. He was still rubbing his cheek. “What?” he said. “When I slapped you, it left a mark shaped like a unicorn. And um…it looks like it’s gonna stay there.” I whispered. Just then, Keith came into the room. He took one look at Matt’s face and burst out laughing. He turned to me and said “What did you do to him?” I was embarrassed. I looked down. “I may have umm…kinda got mad at him…and umm…punched him in the face. It may have kinda…left a mark like a unicorn.” I said. Keith started laughing even harder. I slapped him across the face too. He screamed. It left a skull and crossbones mark! “Omigod.” I said. “What?” Keith looked in the mirror. He screamed.

Keith’s Point of View
I looked in the mirror and screamed. I had a huge red skull and crossbones mark across my face! Kat looked deep in thought. Then she smiled. “What?” I asked. She snapped her fingers. All of a sudden, the red skull and crossbones turned green! “AHHHHHHH!!!!” I screamed. She laughed, and then snapped her fingers again. The green mark was gone! “Yay!” I said. Then I hugged her. She started coughing and I released her. She was holding her throat. “Ummm…are you okay?
She nodded her head. “I just gotta….” She said, than ran to the bathroom. She threw up a rainbow again. “Great…” She said. “I will never get used to this.” Then, something strange happened. She started to glow! It was faint at first, but it started to get brighter. She moved her hand around in circles. The room started to glow too! She turned and her eyes were pink! She smiled an evil smile. This was not good. She walked over to me and put her hand on my chest. Where she touched me, pink was coming of her and onto me. I started to feel so many emotions, but one was overpowering them all. Anger. I looked into her eyes and saw conflict. It looked like she was fighting herself. She started to make a fist, and accidentally sunk her fingernails into my skin. “Ow…” I whispered. Her eyes widened. She ripped her hand from my skin and ran to the corner of the room. She started shaking. Then, she stopped. She looked up at me. “Wh-what happened?” she asked me. I shrugged. She started talking. “I mean I was so…angry. Like I wanted to kill someone…like I wanted to kill…you.” I stared at her. “You…want to kill me?” “NO!!!” She screamed. I flinched at the power coming from her voice. “I would never intentionally hurt someone. Especially you.” She whispered. She stood up and walked to the mirror. She touched it and another face came up in the glass. I mean, it was her, but not the same. She had long hair with red streaks. She was wearing black make-up and black clothing. She looked…well, scary. The mirror-Kat screeched and clawed at the glass. Her eyes turned black and black stuff was coming out of her eyes. She touched the glass and so did mirror-Sylvia. The real Sylvia started crying. Her tears were pink, but slowly turning black. The mirror-Sylvia was crying too. But her tears were black, but slowly turning pink. Uh oh, not good. Matt came into the room. He screamed. The real Sylvia started to flicker. Sometimes she looked like herself, but when she flickered, she looked like mirror Sylvia. Matt went to grab her, but it was too late. She was now mirror-Sylvia. She turned around and her eyes were…the same? What?! She looked at me like I was on steroids. I saw myself in the mirror and I saw my jaw was wide open. I snapped it shut and she giggled. She looked at me, then Matt. “What?” she asked. “I…you…were…mirror…scary…huh…what?!” Matt said, no stuttered. Ha. She smiled. “I controlled her. I told her some…um, stuff and she listened.” She said. We were speechless. She was more powerful than we had thought. Suddenly, her face scrunched up in pain. She started screaming.
She fell to the ground. I saw mist. It was clouding up the whole room. I couldn’t see. I started pushing the mist around. When it was clear enough to see, Kat was gone. In her place was a wolf. A black wolf, with purple streaks and faint pink sparkles. The wolf looked up at me, and it had Kat’s eyes. Oh God. I should have known she wasn’t a demon. I mean, she controlled her mirror self. Only…crap. She wasn’t just any werewolf. She was an alpha. A crazy, spastic alpha. Who outranked me. This means she is the new alpha of my pack. Crud.

Kat stared at me with her wolfy eyes. She lifted her head up and howled. Suddenly, the mist was back. When it cleared, Kat was standing there. Oh, and if you read Twilight, no after we shift back, we are NOT naked. That would just be freaky. She walked up to Matt, and slapped him in the face. Four times. And kicked him. Seven times. Wow. He stood there like an idiot. When she was done abusing him, he opened his mouth and started to talk. “Ok I probably deserved that. But, so do you.” He smiled an evil smile. But, so did Kat. She ran across the room and to the mirror. She quickly put her hand up to it. The mirror girl did so also. Suddenly, the mirror girl was beside Kat, both of them sporting evil grins. The girls’ eyes started to glow. The both raised their hands and flicked their wrists out. Matt flew across the room and almost hit the wall. Notice I said almost. Just before he hit it, he dropped to the ground. The girls turned to the mirror, their movements perfectly in sync. They swirled their hands around and the mirror rippled. They slammed their wrists down to their sides. The glow was gone from their eyes. Kat turned to the girl and hugged her. She hugged back. When Kat pulled away, she started talking. “Hey what’s your name?” She asked the mirror girl. “My name is Tak.” She smiled. Kat asked her, “Will you please makeover me? I wanna look like you. You are so cool.” Tak smiled. “Sure! But you might wanna put your own spin on it.” Kat started bouncing. “Yeah I know! But sometimes let’s dress alike and pretend that we are twins!” Tak started bouncing too. “YE-UH!!!!” Tak screamed. Great. As if one spastic Kat wasn’t enough. Now we have two.
The Next Day
(Still Keith’s Point of View)
When I woke up, I was lying in a…rainbow? AW CRAP! It was Kat’s puke! Nasty! Kat was lying in her bed. Tak was on an air mattress. They were lying in the exact same position. Suddenly, they both sat up and flicked their wrists out. Tak started to flicker and fade. Then, she was gone. Kat looked at me and her eyes were blue! Oh…I get it. Tak went inside her. Yeah, that makes sense. Sure. Matt came into the room and looked at Kat. He screamed. Tak was gone. I mean her eyes, in Kat’s eyes were gone. Weirdness. I stood up. “Well, I gotta introduce you to the pack today.” She sighed. “Why?” She asked. Right. She doesn’t know she was the alpha yet. “Oh. Well, you’re the new alpha. I used to be the alpha, but you outrank me.” She sighed again. She lied back on the bed. “Fine. Get out.” She said. Matt looked confused. “Why?” he asked. Kat shot up from the bed. “Cuz I need to get dressed and I don’t want you in here! Now go!” She shoved him out of the room, and then me.

Five minutes later, she came out of her room. She was wearing black boots with chains on them, black fishnet stockings, a black skirt, and an elbow length black shirt with long black fishnets across her arms. Wow. She really went all out. I mean, it’s just school.

Now Kat’s Point of View
When I walked out of my room, Matt and Keith were both staring at me. “What?” I asked. They were still staring at me. I waved my hand in front of their faces. I snapped my fingers. They turned into bears! “Oh, crud.” I said. Then, I thought about something. How was it possible that I could do all this stuff, and be a werewolf? That just doesn’t make any sense.
I snapped my fingers again, and they were back to normal. “Hey, how is it possible that I’m a werewolf, and I can turn into a weird version of myself and have magical powers?” I asked them. Matt looked confused. “I…have no idea how that can be possible…but it is…” He said to me. Keith looked at us. “We’re gonna have to do some research on this.” He said.

When we walked into school, everyone was staring at me. And, I mean me. Just me. It was really creepy. I snapped my fingers behind my back so no one would see. Everyone started crowding around Matt and Keith, mostly the girls. I turned myself invisible. And, it may have had some side effects. Like…making everyone within twelve feet of us…fall in love with the first person they look at. And with me invisible…everyone was looking at them. And…I may have made that happen on purpose…you know…everyone falling in love with them…it was pretty funny. I snapped my fingers again, and we were in the janitor’s closet. Just me, Matt, and Keith. Good. No insane girls…or guys. Yeah, there were guys too. I started laughing. They looked confused. “Uh…what did we do?” Matt asked. I was laughing too hard to reply. Pretty soon, I was on the floor, rolling around. Then, I was crying. Matt and Keith were staring at me. I stopped laughing and stood up. Then, I slapped them in the face, really hard. They fell down. “AHHHHHH” Matt screamed. I started laughing again. “You…h-have the most girlish scream I have ever h-heard!” I said, while laughing.
