Think of this as a kind of 'follow up' to my other story, Child of the Labyrinth. :D

With Marek dead and Sarah gone, Jareth returns to the mortal world in search of a new heir. When he finds Soren Chase, a young, eccentric misfit, he seems perfect. But with a new foe out to get the two of them, and Jareth's powers weakening... will there ever be a new Goblin King

Through the Mirror

'I'm not here.'
'Your majesty, I really must protest to this behavior-'
'Begone!'
'But sire, you haven't eaten all day-'
'You seem intent on distressing me. Now heed my warning and go away.'
Lawliet Coeur sighed, and carried the tray back to the kitchen. The Goblin King had been ever so reclusive ever since his son's death. Lawliet was just a lowly servant, but he still felt some pity for the King. The cooks however, saw this as a pathetic action, typical of a being such as a human. Personally, Lawliet had always saw humans as rather attractive creatures. Returning to the King's door, Lawliet knocked again.
'What is it now?' He heard Jareth snap from the other side.
'Sire, the food is gone.'
'Then you're halfway there, Coeur. The food is gone, excellent. Now I just need you to go also.'
'Sire, you cannot hide yourself in your chambers. It was your fault Marek d-' Lawliet was interrupted by something smashing against the door, making the handle burning hot. Lawliet jumped back as sparks flew from the door.
'Speak not of things of which you are ignorant!' Jareth yelled.
'I apologize sire, twas not my place,' Lawliet said, rubbing his burnt hand. 'I'll just be going.'
'Yes. See that you do.'
Lawliet ran down the corridor, not once looking back.
Jareth put his head into his hands. His appearance had not changed since his first encounter with Sarah Williams, but he seemed to smirk and challenge people a lot less. He wondered where she was now. Probably continuing to live her life like some errant teenager. Well, wherever she was, Jareth couldn't really care what happened to her.
He had already burnt his left hand, where he had dropped his crystals more than twice. Jareth turned his head to where he had threw a crystal at the door. It left a huge black mark where the handle should have been. He would have to repair that later. He stood up and paced around the room, frowning and wallowing in his despair. That seemed to be the only thing he was good for now. His chambers were dark and dusty, and the floor was cluttered with the remains of crystals, armour and various other items not worthy of being placed on the slanting shelves. The curtains, usually red, had changed colour, according to Jareth's mood. They were a dark, depressing shade of black, and closed so no light could enter the room. In the corner of the room stood a mirror, equally dusty and old as the rest of the objects. Jareth wandered over to it, and wiped it clean with his gloved hand. He looked at his reflection. He used to do this so often, but now it didn't seem so important.
He needed someone to take over for him. But who?
He had no heir, and he couldn't very well ask his servants to take over. Then, looking at the mirror, a thought struck Jareth's mind. It wasn't the most regal way to travel, but...it was his only option.
Either that, or kill himself.
Jareth dismissed the thought. What would the world be like without him?! He took a deep breath, and stepped through the mirror. He was going to find a successor. Even if he had to find one the hard way.
The Goblin King was returning to the mortal realm.
