Chapter 1

A New Life

Keenan sat on the dirt waiting for her father to bring up the truck "Don't worry you'll like Baltimore, I hear it's nice." Luke said to her, she rolled her eyes and said "Whatever." There were runs in the dirt on her face from the tears she had shed. Louis walked to her and squatted down to look eye level with her dark eyes. He smiled at her and said "I'm really gonna miss you cupcake." His former girlfriend blushed and said "Um, I'll miss you too Louis." Standing up she dusted off her black skinny jeans. Keenan walked to the stables and patted her black horse's nose saying "Hey Cloudy, I'm gonna miss you too." The horse whinnied and nudged her hand. Garrett Duchover honked the horn of the moving truck and called "Kiddo! Lets go! Now Luke I want you to take good care of my ranch. I trust you." Keenan's brother laughed and said "Don't worry dad, it'll be fine. I love you Kee." She nodded.

Jack laughed as Alex eyed all the girls at the school, he explained some of them. Alex finally asked "Who's that one?" pointing to a girl with long black hair. Jack cracked up laughing and said "You'll figure her out as you go, not even I know that much about her." Alex sigh and said "Whatever, lets just get to music class." The boys walked into the building. Sitting in her seat Keenan let her bangs hang down. The teacher started talking about melodies in music writing, he started to pick up the previous nights homework. "Your lyrics Miss. Duchover?" She dug around in her back pack. Yanking out a sheet of note book paper she handed it to the teacher. He read over the lyrics and cried "Amazing!" She shrugged. "Does she ever talk?" Alex whispered to Jack. Jack snickered and said "Talk? You should hear her sing."

"Do you ever feel like breaking down, do you ever feel out of place. Like somehow you just don't belong and no one understands you." Keenan sang softly. School was over but she had a deal with the music teacher and janitors, she was aloud to stay if she picked up after herself. Alex pressed his ear to the door and could hear a voice and soft guitar. He cracked open the door and the voice stopped abruptly. Curious brown eyes looked at him and then demanded "Who are you?" There was Texas twang coming out in her voice. Alex laughed and said "So...your from Texas?" She scowled and said "You didn't answer my question." He laughed again and said "Oh...right. I'm Alexander...Alex if you would."
"What makes you say I would? I'm Keenan."
Alex smirked nonchalantly and said "Oh nothing. I already knew your name." She frowned and snapped "Who told you who I was?"
"Jack."
She rolled her eyes and shrugged.

Keenan walked to the house that was near the on Thames Street, the car was as usual in the garage. She unlocked the door, stepped in and slammed it shut. Locking it she made sure her father wasn't home. Walking into the kitchen she saw there were vodka and rum bottles pouring out of the garbage. "Dad's been home drinking again." She muttered to herself. Looking in the fridge she said "Gotta get a paycheck soon, cause all I got is some juice." Garrett had been a great guy when they first moved, then he started meeting heavy drinkers and followed their lead. Keenan ran up the stairs to her room and started pulling on a white tank top and her button down. She covered up the black eye with make up again and walked out the door grabbing the keys as she left.

"Your late Duchover...again." Martin said to her.
"Sorry boss, I had a late day at school." Her superior nodded and said "Well, go get your skinny jeaned little /-\ss out there." She nodded and walked out into the hotel's dinning room. Several male customers gawked at her and a couple beckoned her to come to them. She went to a guy staring deeply into a menu, he finally looked up. "Keenan?" Alex asked, the second guy looked up, it was Jack Barakat. "Hello what would you like to drink." Alex blinked and asked again "Keenan?" She acted as though she had never met him. "Yes sir that's what the name tag says."
"Don't call him sir, his ego might get bigger." Jack said sarcastically. Alex rolled his eyes and grumbled something under his breath.

Handing them burgers she walked into the kitchen. "God, I'm so gonna kill him on Monday!" Marie giggled and asked "Kill or kiss?" Kee smacked her and growled "Shut up barbie doll." Her co-worker laughed. "Okay I'd better take them their check." Keenan walked out the doors and to the pair of teen boys. Jack grinned and took the check "Wow, thanks Keenan." She said "Have a good day sirs." Leaving a 20 dollar tip on the table. She put the money in her apron and walked back to get a busboy. "Hey table 9 needs to be cleaned. Codi!" The Latino busboy looked away from Marie's breasts and asked "What?" She pointed out the door again and he sigh. "Come on Kee eat a burger!" Marie said nodding she took a burger and ate.

Thump Bang The door down the staircase crashed open, Keenan whimpered and hid underneath her bed. "Where are you, you little btch!" She heard her father yell. She didn't move he groaned and yelled "I'm goin' out!" He was already slurring. The front door slammed.
