Chapter 1
Lily couldn't sleep any longer, even if it was a Saturday, she knew that. With a sleepy groan she pushed herself up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Her wand was sitting on the trunk at the end of her bed, so she grabbed it and ran down the stairs to the Common Room. She sighed in relief as she saw that it was empty, she thought she might have overslept long enough for James to be awake and down here already. With a satisfied smile she slowed her mad rush to a lazy walk through the Common Room. She was about to sit on the couch and relax in front of the fire when someone slipped onto it before her.
"Beat you to it, Evans!" Came a triumphant cry just as she sat down on a person's lap. She realized too late that this person happened to be none other than James Potter. And they were alone.
An arm snaked around her waist just as she tried to jump off him, anchoring her to him. She scowled and tried to wiggle out of his grasp, "Let go of me you annoying little git!"
Lily could practically hear his infuriating smirk as he answered, "Aw look, you already have a nick name for me! Come on Evans, we're all alone, you can drop the act. It's not a bad thing that you like me."
Lily ground her teeth together, trying to resist the urge to hex James into oblivion. "You really don't get it do you, Potter? I. Don't. Like. You." With each word she spat at him, she wiggled a bit farther from his grip. Finally she managed to get him to release her and she moved away from the couch, glaring at him.
"Whatever you say, Evans," James answered, winking at her, that same infuriating smirk still on his face. Lily let out a small scream of both indignation and frustration before storming out of the Common Room. She got through the Fat Lady, but not before James called out after her, "Say 'hi' to Snivellus for me! And when you're ready for some REAL fun, come find me!"
Lily's hands were still clenched in fists by the time she reached the Great Hall. She probably would've punched the next person to talk to her had it not been Severus. "Lily!" He called out cheerfully, rushing over to her side with a grin.
Lily took a deep breath to avoid snapping at Sev, she didn't need him mad at her, it wasn't something she wanted to do or put up with. "Hey, Sev." She finally answered, sighing.
"I was waiting for you to get down here and eat breakfast.. What took you so long?" He pried catiously, matching her pace as they walked into the Dining Hall.
Lily glanced at him, suddenly feeling bad for making him wait so long. Even though it was all Potter's fault. "Potter was trying to be suave and he failed miserably."
Lily had become used to the way Sev's face twisted in dislike at James' name, so it wasn't a surprise when he asked, "What'd he do?" It was a bit different that his voice was so filled with a biting acid.
"He stole my spot on the couch and then forced me to sit on his lap, it was torture." She informed Sev, yawning. The whole ordeal had left her feeling as though she needed to sleep for a few more hours.. Possibly days.
"That git," Sev muttered, shaking his head. Lily shrugged and headed for the Gryffindor table quietly as Sev split off to head for the Slytherin table. There wasn't a day that went by without Lily wishing Sev was in Gryffindor. She knew he deserved it, he was such a good friend, just as loyal as any Gryffindor! There wasn't much she could do though, so she sat down at her own table silently and piled her plate with food.
As Lily ate the Dining Hall steadily filled with people, becoming noisier by the second. The seats beside her remained empty, the way she liked it. She was halfway through her fifth pancake when suddenly both spots beside her were filled. On one side was Black, on the other Potter, and on either side of them was Pettigrew and Lupin.
Lily scowled at her food and continued to eat, ignoring them studiously. James seemed fine with this for some odd reason, and Lily wasn't ure she as going to like the reason why. Then again, any second that Potter wasn't talking to her was a blessing. Finally she came to a horrific realization as a tentative first year sat in front of her and asked, "Can.. Can I have a picture of you and James, Lily? We need a cutest couple picture.."
Lily's eyes widened in horror and she gagged on her pancake, dropping her fork in shock. The shock quickly turned to anger as she stopped choking. Standing up and towering over James she shouted, "WHAT THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU THINKING? TELLING EVERYONE WE'RE DATING?! YOU'RE SUCH A GIT, POTTER!" With that said, she stormed off, not looking back and headed to the Common Room.
