Chapter 1: Solar-Powered Part 1
This had to be some sort of dream! This wasn’t happening! It couldn’t have been! Pushing away those thoughts for later, I pushed myself to my limits. Climbing down steep hills in flip flops wasn’t my forte, especially with a huge hunk of living metal right behind you. “Crap,” I cursed as the band to my shoe broke off.
“Forget this,” I hissed and ripped them off before hurrying down the slope. “Ow…ow…ow…”
Each step brought sharp pain to my bare feet as rocks sunken into the ground dug into my arch. “Where’s an Autobot when you need one?!” I yelped as I suddenly tumbled forward, scraping up my arms. “Ahh!” With a grunt I hit the bottom of the hill. Dazed and dizzy, I stared up into the sky, remembering yesterday as I involuntarily shut my eyes.
The Previous Day:
“Yo! Cat!” I quickly turned my head and grinned widely. “Hey Jack!” His black hair swept over his face like always. He soooo needed a new hair style. Glancing down at him I noticed his current attire: a gray t-shirt with white long sleeves, dark blue jeans and white tennies. Eh, a new wardrobe wouldn’t hurt either.
I chuckled to myself. “Huh? Why are you laughing?” he asked as he approached me. “Oh nothing, nothing!” I stifled a final giggle and composed myself. “So what’d you want Darby?” I questioned, tucking a stray strand of my dark brown hair behind my ear.
“I was wondering if you wanted to hit the park afterschool and work on some homework?” I smirked, knowing why he was asking. “Trouble in chemistry class?”
His eyes widened, then he looked away. I giggled softly, stretching the sleeves of my hoodie to reach over my wrists.“Yeah, yeah. Go ahead and laugh. Just help me.” I couldn’t resist a smile and put my hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Sure thing bud, I’d be glad to help!”
Afterschool:
Strolling down the path in the park, I slumped on a bench and pulled out my book. “Late as usual,” I mumbled as I flipped a page. The wind was blowing gently and the birds were chirping their usual tunes. My legs swung back and forth slowly, wrinkling my jeans, as I concentrated.
All seemed peaceful until the sound of an engine revving had my head turning fast. My eyes widened as I saw Jack riding down the sidewalk on his navy motorcycle, heading straight for me.
“JACK! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?!”
He neared me and grabbed me by my sleeve. “Come on!” he shouted and yanked me onto the seat beside him. “Hold on,” he commanded as the motorcycle started off again, even faster than before. I let out a soft squeak in surprise and quickly wrapped my arms around his waist, pressing against his back.
“J-Jack…what’s going on…?” I whispered meekly. I hated going fast. Without even looking at me he began to explain. “Someone’s after us, I just need you to trust me…and her.” “Her?!” I yelped as the motorcycle went over a bump.
“Geez, calm down,” a mysterious voice with an irritated tone sounded from the two-wheeler. “WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!” I shouted, freaking out even more.
“JACK LET ME OFF NOW!” I shouted. Jack shook his head. “It’s too late! Hold on!” he warned.
With a screech of the tires, the “motorcycle” had doubled its speed in less than a few seconds. I let out another blood curdling scream, shaking violently as the sound of helicopters flew overhead. “Jack…I don’t wanna die…”
Sailas:
“Two pedestrians on the Autobot, sir,” the fully armored pilot confirmed. Leering from the seat, Sai spotted them. As his eyes narrowed, his scars on his face wrinkled in obvious focus. “There’s that Darby boy, but…” he smirked, relaxing himself,” that girl is new.” Sailas once again leaned back in his seat, displaying his buzzcut proudly. “I want the Autobot functional. Do what you want with the kids…” Sai grinned wickedly and crossed his legs. “I’ll get what I want. Either way M.E.C.H. is going to prevail."
Catori:
Yet another scream erupted from my throat as the ground beneath us was shot. Before we could swerve out of the way, we all were sent flying through the air. “JACK!”, I shouted as I felt my body soaring. Nearby Jack called out to me as he flipped in the opposite direction.
Then I heard the strangest sound and saw the strangest thing. Jack’s motorcycle had changed. There before me stood a feminine looking robot. She had blue and silver plating with purple streaks. Our eyes locked gazes for a moment, icy blue meeting brown, and then she sped into action. First she caught me and then Jack before dodging yet another blast.
“Stay put!” she commanded and dumped us behind some bushes before transforming into her motorcycle form and driving off to distract the coptors.
“What…THE HECK WAS THAT?!” I shouted at Jack.
My eyes narrowed. He had a lot to explain. He looked at me, a hint of terror in his eyes. Oh he had seen me pissed before and it hadn't been too pretty. But, though I hate to admit it, I have a soft side and seeing the look in his eyes cooled my rage. “Jack…I’m your friend, you can tell me anything,” I whispered in a much softer tone. “I-I…well...that’s Arcee…”
“Arcee?” I questioned. He nodded. “She’s a...good guy I guess is the best way to describe her without lengthy explanations, and she is fighting against bad guys in general, humans and other complicated evils.” I raised an eyebrow.
“Good guy, bad guy thing, eh?” He simply nodded. I once again turned my gaze and watched how Arcee expertly maneuvered to dodge the incoming blasts. She was clearly experienced and capable of handling herself.
Jack tugged at my sleeve. “We have to go…now! The others are on their way I’m sure.” He began leading me deeper into the woods. “Let’s go!” It was then I noticed multiple pairs of footsteps following behind us. “Jack…I think…-“ “I know,” he confirmed and just quickened his pace.
“There they are!” a deep voice echoed around us and all of a sudden bullets began hurling towards us. He pushed me down, getting on top of me and flattening himself, using himself as a human shield. “Stay down!” he commanded and closed his eyes tightly.
I grit my teeth, heart racing in fear. This was it. I was gonna die here. 'I’m sorry papa, mama, for not finishing highschool… ' I was interrupted from my thoughts by the sound of another engine, this one much larger.
I allowed my head to peek up and my eyes widened as I saw a blue peterbuilt semi with red flames outlining the sides driving straight for us. I screamed and ducked my head between my arms. I heard the tires screech as it stopped in front of us, then felt Jack yanking me off the ground. “Move it Cat!,” he shouted over the fire and opened the cab door. “Get in…” Jack urged.
“But…” I questioned. “Trust me, now get in.” I couldn’t deny the trust I had in him, so I rushed into the cab, scooting over to the other end and strapping myself in. Jack immediately followed me, and closed the door.
“Jack, are you and your friend alright?” a voice sounded through the speakers. It had a deep and velvety tone, but I still flinched and curled up in the seats, trembling. “J-Jack…” Jack looked at the dashboard, then at me. “Cat, it’s alright. This is Optimus Prime, Arcee’s commander.” He offered a hand. “I promise, everything is gonna be alright.”
I looked at his hand, then slowly grasped it. “O-Okay…” I murmured. “Hold on you two,” the mysterious voice once again blared through the speakers as the vehicle shifted into drive and drove forward. I looked through the front window to see soldiers diving out of the way. “Miss, are you alright?” I blinked and looked at the steering wheel. “Huh?,” I asked blankly. Jack couldn’t suppress a chuckle. “Too busy watching the scenery in front to listen to an alien robot,” he sneered. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. “Yeah…whatever.” Jack looked at the dash. “Optimus, this is Catori…” He made a left turn, going towards the main highway. “Catori, it’s a pleasure to meet you, I am Optimus Prime leader of the Autobots.” I smiled at his formal introduction. “Nice to meet you too.”
Woah! That stop was so abrupt, I would’ve went through the front window if it weren’t for my seat belt. (WEAR SEATBELTS!! XD) “Alright, both you two get out here. I’ll have Ratchet warp you back to base.” I tilted my head in confusion. “Explanations later,” Jack said and once again tugged me out of the cab. “Thanks, Optimus!” He honked his horn in what I thought was a ‘you’re welcome’ and headed back for the battle field.
“Come on, Cat.” I felt yet another gentle pull and turned my head to see a portal-thing. I staggered back in surprise. “W-What is that?”
Jack smiled. “It’s the entrance to the warp gate. It will beam us back to base. Now, let’s get back.”
With obviously no choice in the matter, I followed him to what could be my death…but putting my trust my friend I couldn’t help but have an ounce of confidence at facing the unknown.
This had to be some sort of dream! This wasn’t happening! It couldn’t have been! Pushing away those thoughts for later, I pushed myself to my limits.
