so! i just got back from alton jones!!!! it is a camp. my grade went there and stayed for 3 days....AWESOME!
GOING THERE
the bus ride was awesome. me and my friends watched cars 2 on the television screen. we talked and laughed, and also slept. it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there.
GETTING THERE
when we got there, we got divided into groups and got showed our cabins. our groups were made of 7 or 8 people. we arrived at 11:00 or so.
FOOD
we had 3 meals a day, but no snacking in between. after each and every meal, we had recess for 20 minutes.
the food while i was there were:
1: lunch--hamburgers
2: dinner--something--i cannot remember!!! XD
3: breakfast--mini pancakes
4: lunch--chicken nuggets
5: dinner--turkey meal
6: breakfast--muffins
7: lunch--pizza
6: breakfast--muffins
and for lunch and dinner, we had dessert after. i remember that we had whoopie pies, apple turnovers, orange cream popsicles, cookies, and brownie cookies.
CABINS
my cabin was hug. in my room we had a sink, and 6 beds. i was on the top middle one. my friend was on the right on the top and my other friend was on the left top, and my teacher slept with us, IN THE SAME ROOM.. AWKWARD!
HIKING
we had night hikes, and also day hikes. the night hikes were cool, but PITCH BLACK! almost everyone tripped at least 50 times on a PEBBLE. they were also long hikes, and it is winter, so it was a bit nippy also.
SCHEDULE
my schedule was like this.
7:00--get up and dressed
8:00--breakfast
8:30--recess starts
8:50--recess ends
9:00--we start the morning lesson. on my fist day we had ecology.
9:30--we start on our hike for whatever subject it is.
10:30--we get back, maybe play some games, stuff like that.
11:00--we do a big talk with everyone
11:30--we do a short lesson, maybe more hiking
12:30--lunchtime, we go back and wash up, etc.
1:00--we have rec time
1:20--we do some random stuff, like talk and waste time, my specialty
1:30--we start our afternoon lesson
2:00 or 2:30--we start our afternoon hike
3:30 or so--we come back and play a game, waste time again! YAY!
4:00--cabin time, our first chance to go back to our cabins
5:00--dinner
5:30--we have rec time
5:50--we waste MORE TIME
6:00--we learn another lesson or learn a game
6:30--we go and do a hike or a game
8:00--we come back, and talk about our time we had doing the game or lesson
8:40--we start to rap up, waste more time, talk, be crazy...
9:00--get sent back to cabins to ready for bed
9:20 or 9:30--lights out!!! goodnite sleep tite!

THE GAMES--UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
the underground railroad was AWESOME! my teacher led our group. her name was "Sarah Green." she was the only one allowed to talk to people. we had to make up a story so people would not think that we were slaves in the underground railroad trying to escape. we came across a guy who fed us apples and apple cider, but then he realized we were slaves trying to run away, and he yelled SHERIFF! SHERIFF! and so we all ran. then the sheriff came looking for us, but she did not catch us. not yet. (and also that experience scared the living poop out of me. wait my poop is not alive!) so then we were seeking shelter for the night and then someone came up to us and said that we could stay there, but she did not know that it was safe yet, so we hid in a safehouse. at that point, my teacher realized that she had left the map a while back at a lantern that the slaves were supposed to stop at to get help. but anyway...the person came and got us and we had to hide in her house. the girl was going to get us tea, but then we heard this "ELIZABETH! WHO ARE TALKING TO? WHY SO MANY CANDLES LIT? COME TO THE DOOR! LET ME IN! WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO???" (at this point my poop was horrified.) so she hurried us out of her little escape door, and then let the person in, but she died because he knew she was helping slaves, which was a horrible thing to do back then in 1832. so then we were in a field, reading a paper on one of the lantern spots, for help of what to do, and then i almost died. what happened was i saw a woman in black. she had a black cape and she had no flashlight, unlike the other people. so then i gasp and then she starts circling us so Hawk like, and then she starts yelling things like WHY ARE YOU OUT ON MY FIELD, YOU VERMIN!? we learned later on that SHE was the sheriff. she caught us. and she made us look at the ground, and she started to whip my friends' water bottles. she then led us to a cabin. and she ACTUALLY, like in REAL LIFE, LOCKED THE FRICKIN' door! but my teacher said "well, she was mea. and STUPID!" i did not know why she said this, but then i saw her unlatch a trap door. WE WERE SAVED! so then we ran out and it ended. it displayed how much trouble we could get in if we were runaway slaves. i loved that game!
GAMES--PREDATOR PREY
this was a fun game. there were 4 main groups...mice, snakes, minks and hawks. the hawks can eat everyone. the minks can eat only the snakes and mice, and the snakes can eat the mice, and the mice cannot eat anyone. but the mice have advantages for staying alive: they had a secret path that no one else can go on. say if a snakes wanders across it, they die and go to "life cycle station" which i will explain later on. also, the mice have a black card. one person in this group will have it. if they get tagged during an attack, they die, but also the person who tagged them dies, because the black card means death and disease. so...THE GAME. the objective is to get as many cards of resources you need to survive. they are food, water and shelter. i was a mouse, who needs 1 shelter, 1 water and 2 food. so, you try to gather these card in the fields. when you finish gathering the cards, you advance one more round. when you do this, you have to go to the life cycle station, which is a place where the dead animals go, and also the finished groups. when a groups finishes, they take the dead animals as there own, so the people who got tagged get in again, as that new animal. the only catch is that the other groups get to try to tag you. when the whistle blows, the group who's whistle blew has to try to tag the other group. the other group shall run away and make sure they do not get tagged. they have ten seconds to try and tag them. when the whistle blows again to signal the time to tag is up, each group gets a 2 minute resting period where no one can attack them and they cannot attack anyone else.
ways hawks can get out: a mouse can get them to follow them into the un-natural trail, because if you go in there you die. also, the humans can come around and blow you out, because of the human impact group, they can cause a good effect or a bad. and lastly, they can tag a mouse with the black card.
ways minks can get out: if they get tagged by a hawk. also if they tag the black card mouse, and if they get into the un-natural trail. and also the humans too.
and bacically the same for the snakes. this is the most AWESOME GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
