Chapter 1
Our Homefront
The year is 1940. September 7th to be exact. World War 2 has been going on for about a year and a half now. This is the story of one family's journey. Meet the Aarons family. The father, James Aarons, makes the money. The mother, Aislinn Aarons, stays home to take care of the children. They have 5. Lucy, the eldest, Jack, Arnie, Charlotte, and Matt, the youngest.
"Arnie!! Come down for dinner!", Aislinn Aarons called down to her middle son. He was always upstairs reading. He claims it helps him escape from the scare of the war.
"Coming Mom!" he yelled back. Lucy and Charlotte were listening to the radio in the front room, learning new dance steps, and Jack and Matt were outside throwing a football. "Girls! Come to the kitchen and help me! Your father will be home in a minute! Oh Arnie, good your down, go outside and tell your brothers to come in and wash up please." It was usually like this in the Aarons household. There were seven of them all running about. They were a normal family mostly, well, they were luckier than others. The kids father made good money and the family had a good sized house.
"Oh mother do we have to?" Lucy said," I'm trying to work with Charlotte on some new dance moves..."
"Yes, now come on and wash up," she responded. Jack, Arnie, and Matt all came in with their father who took off his hat and put it on the rack like he always did. Lucy went to go help with dinner, while Charlotte stayed by the radio listening to Glenn Miller's In The Mood. Her father went to her and started dancing with her the moves, spinning her around until she was laughing and dizzy. Mr. Aarons always had a soft spot for Charlotte, mostly mecause it was his youngest girl. Lucy then came in with Matt, and while seeing the two of them dance, decided to dance as well, just for fun. Just moments like these, would take their minds off of what happened out their door.
"Come on you guys! Dinner is ready!" Jack yelled.
"Oh fine...can you teach me and Lucy later dad? Please?"
"Sure thing sweetheart. So how was school?" He said to Charlotte on their way to the dining room.
"Oh uh...fine...I guess"
"Oh really? Because your teacher sent a letter to my office today. Can you guess what it said?" He said with a fake smile.
"That I'm an amazing angel?" She replied while batting her eyelashes.
"Oh, so close! It had to do with you putting glue on another kid's seat in class today...care to explain?"
"Not really...maybe later?" she said hopefully.
"hmmm not really. After dinner it's straight to bed. Got it? No coming out, or it'll be the same thing tomorrow night."
"Ugh."
The family ate their family together, like always, with the radio on the background, just so they would know what is happening. Halfway through dinner, Mrs. Aarons had noticed Arnie wasn't eating his dinner.
"What's wrong Arnie?"
"Nothing...I-I just have a bad feeling, it's nothing."
"What a freak", Jack mumbled under his breath. Lucy shot him a glare from across the table.
"OK then," Mrs. Aarons said.
BOOM
They all froze. Then they heard it again.
BOOM
Mrs. Aarons looked at Mr. Aarons with fear. All he did was whisper," Turn off the lights Jack and close the curtains...now."
A/N- So I hope you guys liked it! I'm sorry if it was kinda suckish, but I tried my best! And the characters I see are kinda Mary-Sueish. I did that on purpose to show how big of an impact the war can have just for this first chapter. So thanks for reading and comment if I did good!
