Ness's death (Eartbound short story)
This did NOT happen at the end of Earthbound. This is a POSSIBILTY of what COULD have happened. Enjoy.
All the chosen four could see was static. Porky Minch had escaped to a different time, and now Giygas (the Universal Cosmic destroyer) had finally been defeated. Ness was especially worn down out of the four.
Suddenly the static turned into explosions. One blast was about to hit Paula, Jeff, and Poo. "Nooo!" Ness yelled, "Shield Beta!" Ness used the last of his energy to protect his friends, but the explosion bounced off towards him. Ness braced himself for the end.
Who knows how long later
Paula, Jeff and Poo woke up. They were in Saturn Valley. Ness was there too, but he wasn't moving. "Ness?" Paula asked, "Are you okay?" Ness didn't respond. "You don't think he's-" Poo said grimly. "DEAD?!?!?!" Jeff finished. Tears welled up in Paula's eyes. "No..." she mumbled. She shook Ness, trying to get a reaction. Finally, she slapped him. Nothing.
Poo was expressionless while Jeff said nothing, to honor Ness's memory. Paula sobbed, a river of tears streaming down her face. Doctor Andonuts came along and bowed his head, while the Mr. Saturn cried a little too.
That evening, Ness's mom was waiting anxiously for news about Ness and his friends. Suddenly the phone rang. "That must be Ness!" Ness's mom said excitedly, "I can't wait to know what happened! Okay, calm down,me. I don't want to sound like a maniac over the phone." Ness's mom got up and answered the phone. "Hello?" she asked. "Hello, is this Ness's mom?" a voice asked. "Yes, it is." she answered. " I'm one of Ness's friends, Poo. I'm afraid I have bad news. Your son is dead." Ness's mom froze in shock. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her son was DEAD?!? "Ma'am, I'm very sorry. My condolonces. I'll bring his body home if you want. Good night." Poo said sadly before hanging up. Ness's mom erupted in tears, crying all the body water out of her. She didn't notice Tracy was watching, crying also.
Somewhere else
Ness woke up, not knowing where he was. Well actually, he was dead. But I'm talking about souls here.
Ness was in a very cloudy and bright place. The sun was shining through his transparent form. Ness floated around wondering how he had gotten here. Nothing bothered him because no living creature was around. Just clouds and sunshine.
Back to earth
The day was very cloudy and wet. It had been raining continously, as if the world had had the joy sucked out of it now that Ness was gone. Nevertheless, everyone that had known Ness was at his funeral (even Picky and Lardna Minch). It had been decided that Ness was buried where his adventure began, at the hill where the meteorite had landed(it had been removed).
Jeff was at the pulpit, giving a speech. "Everyone, we are gathered here today to honor the memory of Ness, beloved brother, son, friend, person who SOMEONE wished would moved away glances at Lardna Minch, savior, and just an awesome person." Jeff said, "Would anyone one like to say a few words of goodbye?" Everyone except for Lardna Minch came up with tears streaming down thier face. Finally, Paula came up again. " I'd like to sing a special song to finish the funeral." She said quietly. Everyone (except for Lardna Minch again) nodded and let her sing.
Back to that somplace else
"Hey Ness," a mysterious voice said, "look here." A window to earth opened in front of Ness, like a TV screen. Paula was about to sing. "If she sings the Eight Melodies, you can go back to Earth. That song contains power." The voice said. Ness's soul watched in silence.
Back to Earth
Paula took a deep breath and (sure enough) started to sing Eight Melodies.

"I want to go back home!" Ness yelled.
Back to Earth
Everyone at Ness's funeral had turned thier backs, going home. Suddenly, a loud THUMP came from inside Ness's coffin. Muffled yelling could be heard. "Hey! Lemme outa here!" Ness's voice yelled. More banging could be heard. Poo approached the coffin and opened it. Ness stopped thrashing. "Hello." he said. "NESS!" everyone yelled. Paula ran to Ness, squeezing all the air out of his lungs in a hug. At that moment, Ness found the courage and kissed Paula on the lips.
