Prolouge - My Perfect News
Ella's light brown hair was in it's usual ponytail, her bangs every which way. Her stormy eyes had leaned towards the blue side today, her eyes changed colour ever so slightly. Her sharp features were scrunched up in annoyance.
"What!" She shouted, I didn't even flinch.
"I've got to tell you something, but not here", I looked around suspiciously, the lady next door who had poked her head above the fence shied away from my dangerous glare and resumed her gardening.
"Okay!" Ella exclaimed suddenly curious and excited. She pulled me inside and to her room, she shut the door after us.
"Now, don't bother sitting down!" I told her as she lowered herself into her chair, she snapped upright again with an eager smile. "My parents just told me something!" I lowered my voice to a whisper. "I'm... magic... I'm a witch!"
Ella started, stunned by my words. "What?"
"I'm a witch! And I'm going to this awesome magic school when I get my letter! Mum said I couldn't tell anyone but I'm pretty sure you're an exception. What harm would you do?!" My words came out in a tumble and Ella's confusion passed and was replaced by a smile.
Ella was always that kind of person that welcomed any form of magic, one of the reasons we're best friends. "Awesome! Can you do any magic?"
I shook my head." Not really, I can kind of but they're random. Mum said that I need a wand for proper spells!"
"Okay! You're gonna have to show me when you learn," Ella's enthusiasm was fading, she was dissapointed that she wasn't one.
"Ella, who knows maybe you're a witch too, the letters are going to come in about a week. Maybe you'll get one! Then we can spend the school year together!"
Her eyes widened with hope. Ella hugged me and insisted I stay for dinner so I could tell her all I know about the school, I knew Mum wouldn't bother so I discarded asking her. Before dinner I told her about muggles, some lesson names, wands and pets you could take. She hung onto every word eagerly, soaking up the little information I knew. During dinner we talked about normal things as we were under the watchful eye of her parents and siblings. We talked a bit after dinner until it was time to leave.
"Bye Ally!" she hugged me tightly, her excitment hadn't left her ever since I told her she could be a witch too. God I hope I was right, but I'd always thought there was something special about her.
"You too Ella. Hey we should have nicknames!"
Her eyes brightened." I'd be Blue, if I had one".
"Okay you're Blue then! Not sure what I'd be though... Oh well, I'll talk to you tommorow. Bye!" I bid her family goodbye then ran to my home, narrowly missing nightfall.
"Where we you?" Mum asked as I entered the house. She poked her head around the doorway to the kitchen, she looked unconcerned.
"Ella's!" I said breathlessy, I closed the door behind me and sat down on the couch.
"So I presume you've had dinner already?"
I nodded, then realised she couldn't see it." Yep. We had spagetti!"
"Good too. Your Father and I were going on a date tonight," Mum strolled out of the kitchen in a tight fitting, knee length dress. It was coloured baby blue with a belt slung across the middle. I clapped at her, she smiled and twirled around a few times. "Do you like it?"
"It's lovely Mum! Where's Daddy?"
"Right here", Dad said stepping out from the corridors and a simple shirt blue shirt and pants. I clapped at him too and he took Mum by the waist. "Well see ya, Ally! You can take care of yourself, right?"
"Yep! You two just have fun!" I got up and said goodnight. They exited the house in a flurry of good wishes and hugs. I laughed and ran to my room climbing up onto my bed and jumped until my legs felt like they couldn't carry me anymore. I always did that whenever I was left alone, it was my rebellion against all those warnings of not jumping on your bed. I plonked myself down, exsauted. Finally I got the energy to reach under my bed and pull out my writing materials.
I sighed and contentment flowed through my veins, this is what I was born to do. Create stories, legends and myths about other worlds. I'd developed my own world with stories, Plardia. Ella was the only one truley intrigued by it, so she was my hope that someday my stories of it would become a world classic. I began continuing the story of a boy lost in the Pockmarked forests of Whitestone.
I spent several hours on it, checking the time frequently and occasionly getting ready for bed. It was nearly time for bed. Even when it was one minute away from it I continued writing, I would use all the time I had. I ticked over to nine, I sighed and put my writing equipment back under my bed. I walked around the house making sure everything was locked and all lights were off before returning to my room and flicking the light switch coating the house in darkness.
I smiled as I climbed into the cool covers. I had gotten quite a few pages done for my story and I'd found out I was a witch. What could make this day more perfect? I was drifting off to sleep thinking about myths I could create when a sudden idea came over me. My nickname, I wanted it short, meaningful and something I could relate to. Myth. Once I centered on it I couldn't think of anything else for me. Myth, it was so perfect.
I smiled, Myth and Blue. What perfect nicknames, with that sleep engulfed me and I floating above a beautiful castle relishing in the sunlight.
