Chapter 1

Flashback! :D

I was eleven, and sitting at the door of my new foster home. I felt strange. I wanted to scream really loudly. I hated foster homes.
Home after home I was denied, and I was sent to another. But I hoped that this one was going to be different. Maybe this time I'd end up being loved. Maybe I would find friends who actually liked my pranks.
I had dark black hair, bright green eyes and a sly grin. I was a natural prankster, understanding of things I could fix and what I could not fix, a caring attitude to those who got to know me and became like family, and I guess overall I was a good kid.
Though I had ADHD and dyslexia, which is why most of the families I went to didn't really like me. I was normally bad at school, having tutors help me a lot and being bullied and teased a bit to much, and I could never pay attention to one thing for a long time. I always ended up seeing some teachers as monsters.
My real mom insisted that I was a troublesome little brat and my father had left us because of me.
I had never actually met my father, he had stayed out of my life since I was four, but he had named me, and my name was the one thing I cherished, even though I could not hold it.
He had named me Alexandra Amanda Lazarus.
I knew I had his hair, but my mothers eyes.
As I stood at the door, a boy around my age, about eleven, answered the door.
He had brown eyes and black hair, he looked me over from head to toe then asked, "Why are you here?"
"I'm sorry, am I at the wrong house?" I asked.
"Probably."
And I walked away. As I turned out of the apartment complex, I saw a camp not to far from there. I stood still, a tear falling down my face as I watched the kids playing. A strawberry patch was close to the camp, so I decided to go get some food. I'd need some if I was going to live on the run again.
I stepped into the berry patch, and I looked to the camp.
The sign read clearly in Greek:
Κατασκήνωση Ημίαιμος
The letters transformed themselves into English, soon reading:
Camp Half-Blood.
I heard laughter, and I soon saw a man in a wheelchair come towards where I was.
I dove behind a bush, my eleven year old face peeking out anxiously as he smiled at me.
"Come out, we take anyone in this camp."
Pervert, I thought.
I followed him into the camp.
As I stepped in, I saw people from young to college age walking and laughing, some with swords.
A flaming dart came over my head, and I yelped as it soared out into the berry patch.
A girl with long blonde hair and bright stormy grey eyes came running to me.
"Oh my gods! Are you okay?!" She asked, looking over my head to make sure no hair had burnt off.
"I'm fine, thanks," I responded, looking her over.
She had an orange T-shirt that had the words Camp Half-Blood written in fancy Greek like writing.
"So, your new?" She asked.
I nodded.
"Annabeth Chase, Daughter of Athena. Can I give her a tour Chiron?" She turned to face wheel chair guy.
Chiron nodded, and she took me by the hand.
"Alexandra Amanda Lazarus," I responded then added, "But call me Alex for short."
"Nice to meet you Alex," she shook my hand.
I felt I had finally made a friend.
End Flashback
Present Day
I stood next to Annabeth, about to go to fight her in the arena. We had become close friends in the past years, I thirteen and unclaimed, Annabeth thirteen and a daughter of Athena, claimed at birth.
"You ready to loose Alex?" Annabeth teased and I rolled my eyes.
"The daughter of No God shall never loose!" I remarked at my friend.
I always joked that I was the daughter of No God, being unclaimed and knowing I had once had a mother who hated me.
Annabeth took the time to roll her eyes as we stood in the arena.
I stood in my battle position, eyes narrowed with my sly grin.
Annabeth had a smile on her face and her grey eyes had a stern, but amused, look in her eyes.
"Ready?" I asked.
"On guard!" Annabeth said.
We had always joked about that since we had once messed around by amusing ourselves on summers days by playing games of fencing.
I jumped up in the air, landing behind Annabeth, as she whirled around, I continued moving, quickly plotting each step to the sound of my favorite song:
Not Fragile by Christina Grimmie.
Bet you didn't think, I could walk through fire.
The song blared through the speakers we had set up in the arena to help us fight.
I twisted my body from the waist up, being the flexible girl I was, did a backflip over Annabeth, and landed on the table where the speakers were.
Come out strolling on the other side I'm made of steel and you can't deny.
The rest of the song became a blur, because I was to busy fighting.
I twisted, flipped, and swept at the air.
In the end, Annabeth and I called a truce. We were both bleeding and sweaty.
"Good match Godless friend," she said, smiling.
"Good fight."
As we walked away from the arena and into the mess hall for lunch, I found a blue-ish glow on the ground and Annabeth no longer following me.
There was a lightning bolt shape above my head, illuminated in yellow with the blue background.
Chiron came up to me, galloping, as he folded down on his legs, and other campers joined him.
"All hail, Alexandra Amanda Lazarus, daughter of Zeus."
