My mainly negative opinion on The Hunger Games Series.
This is going to get me in trouble. Ha ha. Enjoy. ~DISCLAIMER: May contain spoilers :D~ The title will not be changed. If you hadn't noticed I say more negative things than positive, making it "mainly negative" WOOP!
And If Suzanne Collins ever finds this, well... Awkward.
Chapter 1
The Hunger Games
With all the hype, and everyone talking about it, I had high expectations. I borrowed the book from a friend and read a few chapters. I refuse to finish it. The main reason is because it had more Mary-Sues than Twilight.
The book was bland. Very, very bland. I don't like bland pasta and I hate bland books! Too simple, predictable. The characters had no depth, almost no personality, making it hard to get to know them. They were bland. The plot was drowned out by violence. I understand that the point of The Games is violence but Collins took it a little too far. Don't get me wrong, I love violence, yeah... The over-used love triangle also irritated me.
Katniss Everdeen, Collins' main Mary-Sue, annoyed me the most. As stated before, she had no personality and was quite frankly bitchy. I think Collins was going for defiant, strong-willed and brave, but she ended up with a bitch. And not a cool one.
And now for praise because I really do not want to go into my thoughts on Peeta Mallark and Gale Hawthorne, the other points of the triangle.
The plot of book was original,(~edit~ Not really, I Googled another thing called "Battle Royale"... Awkward) and it had such potential to be a good book but it didn't really meet expectations.
To me, I see it as similar to Twilight. You can tell me it's different (and I would say no shit) but if you think Twilight is a piece of trash, and most do for some of the reasons I didn't enjoy the Hunger Games, I don't really see how you liked the book so much. Some times I think that people on here just "follow the crowd" with the hate on Twilight and the love of The Hunger Games.
Oops, jumped back into negativity there...
I thought the movie was fantastic. I can deal with Mary-Sues in film, because they have an excuse not to go into life detail about characters because I know they only have so much time they can make a film. I enjoyed how it was filmed, with the different camera angles and the blurring. The quality of acting was pretty good. And well, Josh, :P And how I could yell "Peeniss"...
Actually the first half hour or so was amazing, that little girl that portrayed Primrose Everdeen made me get all tear-y when she was yelling. She's going to be so big in movies in future, I swear.
In conclusion, well... I think it sucked and in no way deserves the hype from you all. Especially since a lot of you, the users of Quibblo, are better writers, and know a lot better than to love Mary-Sues.
Well, that brings us to the end and have a nice day, go easy on me "super-fans" xP Comment or whatever c:

I'm a hard core Hunger Games fan. I did not finish reading this, because I knew I would hate you forever. I like you. You are cool. We would become enemies....
Sorry if you think me rude. I'm such a big fan of the book, it's like morons with Twilight.
If you could hate me over a book... That's stupid. I just won't say anything now...
Plot of the book is original, hahaha. BATTLE ROYALE, TEAGZ! GOOGLE IT!
I suddenly loved the cast when I watched the film - but when I was waiting for it, no. The girl on fire thing was bleh. The flames were pathetic. But I really loved the acting. :3 And Cinna - he may not be looks-wise, but gahh, the way he acted so smoothly!
Oh, how awkward xDD I fixed my mistake ^.^ I don't watch many Japanese films etc... Oh I'm embarrassed :o
The cast made the characters more likeable and I could easily connect them to the few characters I had read about xD THE FLAMES WERE PATHETIC! Cinna was amazing __
* *_*
Uh, Katniss is not a Mary-Sue. She has plenty of personality if you'd read the book. They were not predictable, and they all had complete depth. You can see this in when Katniss volunteers, and when Peeta confesses his love for Katniss.
The violence is the entire point. It was not taken too far; it's the premises of the book!
The love triangle isn't overused. That's also the main plot and the story revolves around Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Without the love triangle it would be nothing.
"Without the love triangle it would be nothing." What about your violence idea? Hmm? I've read enough to understand. Before reading it, I was excited, waiting for my fiend to finish and I've read like the whole Wikipedia page and a lot of other things. The story revolves around them, yes, but it relies on that too much to keep it interesting. Katniss is indeed a Mary-Sue. I saw the confession of love coming from a mile away and same with her volunteering. :3 Have a nice day!
Yeah plenty of people could predict her volunteering, but what else would have happened? The confession too even, but it's the most important part of the entire story!
About 'my violence idea', if you would look I'm trying to agree with you. I'm saying that without the love triangle, then the violence would be overdone because then there's not really much of another subplot other than survival and the love triangle.
"It relies on them too much to keep it interesting." elaborate, please?
Ohh! I understand know c:
Other than the violence, the love triangle is the one the biggest source of drama, and Collins relied on it too much to create drama I think.
*now
I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!
Haha, everyone has a right to their opinion. ^.^
To be honest, I didn't like the movie all too much. Acting was fantastic, but they rushed everything and didn't emphasize important details. Meh. I don't think it did the book justice.
Haha, actually, I kinda don't like Katniss. She was very....jerky. ^.^ But I liked everything else.
Thanks c:
It was a little rushed! I noticed that!
Katniss the jerk-face :L
I'm pretty much the only one of my friends who hasn't read The Hunger Games. Correction: I read the first few chapters on the Google Books preview. They were pretty good, but nothing I'd go ga-ga and obbsessive over.
I tried reading Twilight once (because my parents got me all the books for Xmas, even though I had no interest in reading them). I couldn't make it through the first third cause I was so bored!
I read maybe just before halfway. I really just thought a lot could be improved.
Katniss is SO not a Mary Sue. She is unpredictable ans irritating. And, after knowing what the hunger games are, how can you not expect a lot of violence? "The plot was drowned out by violence?" Maybe you just weren't looking hard enough.
And what is funny, Twilight fans (the majority anyways) would say the same about Bella, although it's not true ^.^ Was expecting violence, of course, can you not read? I'm sure I said that. I was looking just as hard as any other reader.
Hah.
Well, I'm not gonna argue too much cause I remember the last night that happened, and we're both equally stubborn.
But you can't judge the books without reading them all.
Sure, Katniss seems a little cliche and a Mary Sue at the beginning, but believe me, in the second and third (especially third), it's like reading about a whole different person.
And the plot is violent, I'll agree. But it's not all about the violence. Could you not recognise the betrayal, the love, the hate? And, yes,
you're probably going to reply saying that that is exactly what happens in the Twilight books. But seriously, do you want to read about a boring book without any love involved at all, with no betrayal, no daring chivalry? I can't think of a book without a love triangle involved in it somewhere. In Harry Potter, there's the love triangle with Ginny, Dean and Harry. In Twilight, there's Jacob, Edward and Bella. In the Hunger Games, there's Katniss, Peeta and Gale. And what are the names of
the most favourited books of the past ten years or so? Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games.
I wasn't talking about the other books, just the first ^.^ We're stubborn xDD
The difference is the only drama in Harry Potter isn't the violence (which was only a little) nor the triangular love. And even then, in Harry Potter, it was present enough to annoy me...
Ah, 'kay. I love being stubborn. XD
What is the drama then? Some people could say that it's stupid that Voldemort always decides to attack at the end of almost every year. But that would be judging the books on that. It's the same for The Hunger Games. Some people could say that it's stupid that there's a love triangle. But that would be judging the books. You can't experience the wonders if you judge it on that.
Really? XD XD
Wow...
I'm a judgemental reader though xD The drama in Harry Potter, is the different types of relationships, like friendships, siblings, romantic, family, negative and positive, Voldemort is a part of the drama, it also deals with racism and prejudice, there is lots, and it's all well balanced and not drowning the actual plot, or bring depression on every page, there are sad parts, happy parts, things that make you laugh, cry. Judgement is a part of reading, likes and dislikes showing what you enjoyed
and did not.
Well said. XD
I agree so many people just follow the fads but honestly I wouldn't even pick up the book. I could tell it wasn't very good just from asking other people about it (who liked it) Anyways thats all =P
HELL YEAH!
So, you claim the love triangle was overused? And you claim to like twicrap? How can you love twicrap and claim the love triangle was overused in The Hunger Games? The Hunger Games has way more action that 3/4 the twicrap books, yet you could finish them and not one little Hunger Games book? The Hunger Games did indeed have a much richer plot than just the Games, but you wouldnt know that because you didnt finish the book. A lot of the actual p;ot is in Mockingjay, the 3rd one. You make no sense
I'm only going to make you mad by adding this, but I feel I need to defend Teagz because she didn't say have the crap you said she did. She never claimed to like Twilight. She's also a Harry Potter fan. If you would have actually read what she'd written, you'd know this.
Now for the part that will really make you mad: EVERYONE IS ALLOWED THEIR OPINIONS! She's allowed to think that The Hunger Games suck and you're allowed to disagree.
I've said my bit. Thank you and good night.
Uhmmm. I never claimed to like Twilight so uhhh. You make no sense.Your point means almost nothing now LOL! XD
How can you even get past bella? She is the blandest character I have ever come across. Even her actress only has one facial expression! Besides, think about this, When Bella's boyfriend of what, 2 weeks? left, she curled up in a fetal position and almost starved hersef! When Katniss had to leave her best friend, Gale, she told them she would try to win the unwinnable. When Hermione's love left, she worked even harder to discover the keys to defeating the most powerful wizard in the world. pick
Again, this makes no sense. Kirsten Stewart does make more than one face. I haaaate when people say she doesn't, she is a person too.
Why the hell are you bringing Bella into this? You're really missing the point of my friend's story. -.-
