Which post-apocalyptic world would you most want to avoid living in?
Everyone fends for themselves and their loved ones in a state of absolute anarchy. Fires burn through the night and the sun splinters off the broken glass of windows that once separated owners from buyers. Now the strongest take what they want and the weakest are crushed under the only ruler here: natural selection.
There is no leaving the country, no coming in. No uploading youtube videos, no keeping secrets, no signing a petition for change. Your life course and your countryâ€™s are chosen by your dictator who holds a gavel in one hand and the military in the other.
Although humans have not been reduced to walking on all fours and protecting our skin with a body sized layer of hair, no one has the skills or the know how to recreate more than basic tools. Life has regressed back to our speciesâ€™ childhood, an existence lacking in airplanes, wristwatches, printing paper, assault rifles.
World War III is not hyperbolic like the first two were. This is complete and absolute war, spanning oceans and time zones, creeping into bedtime stories and lunchtime. Either no one has raised up their voice to stop deathâ€™s military march, or no one cares to listen. Streams of poisonous light, hissing toward the enemy in the dark skies, are daily firework displays.
Whatever the apocalypse, you have survived while everyone else, absolutely everyone else, has not. Facebook still works but every face in the book or your life represents someone who once was but lives no longer. Calling only gets you voicemails and drones.
