"Stop labelling yourself" why there is a problem with this (read intro) + other stuff.
First off, this is not aimed at anybody. This is just me ranting on why people are so stupid.
I will also give updates on my story.
Chapter 1
My rant.
You often hear the words "Stop labelling yourself" attached to the subject of subcultures whether you're on Yahoo Answers or in person. What these people don't realise is that there is a MAJOR problem with that, see, they don't realise that Goth and scene aren't THE ONLY LABELS IN THE WORLD.
Why use labels? Why??
BECAUSE THEY'RE DESCRIBING WORDS. They describe who we are, our interests and our hobbies (maybe). We're not doing it for attention and not we're doing it because we think it's cool (well most of us, some are going through a phase).
If you've just called yourself a doctor, tennis player or beekeeper then you've just labelled yourself. If you're an anime watcher or a Parawhore then you've just labelled yourself. Goth, emo, scene and punk aren't the only labels in the world. Yes, when someone wrongly labels themself them it can get annoying (and especially if they label themselves it ALL the time) but for the most part not that much. It just gives you a better idea or structure of who this person is and what their interests might be.
You wouldn't believe what many people mistake for the main ideas of subcultures.

Goths are not depressed, self harmers, Devilworshipers, s_x mad, ignorant or close minded. You'll find the majority of them open minded, calm, down-to-earth and kind. Guess what all those things are? Also labels.
I also hate "You'll grow out of it and stop calling yourself that when you're older, *adults don't use labels"." Yes they do, republican, politicians, doctors, nurses... right? If they have a job then they're the label of that.
EDIT
Now, it's funny because after listing a lot of stereotypes I sit back and think 'I missed out the stereotype of us wearing all black all the time, shit'. I guess I was thinking to hard.
Goth is not a religion, cult or in any shape or form promoting suicide or self harm.
Same for emo. Emo is a genre of music, a sub genre of music. It's not a Black Veil Brides loving 13 year old (it gets even more weird when 9 year olds start calling themselves emo and they haven't even started puberty yet. (I just re-read through this and lolled).
Yes I admit I use to call myself emo (you can tell from my old accounts XxFirestarEmoXx, xXEmoFirestarXx, haEMOglobin hahaha) but I actually did research on it and that's why I know so much about emotive hardcore and I'm still Goth at the same time (my, I really do love emotive hardcore).
Being in a subculture is to make the label fit you and not you fit the label
Updates on my story (Raven a modern Gothic horror story)
I have actually finished the plan so I'll be writing the next chapter soon.
Anyway, thanks for reading.

Thank you. Thank you very much.
From Liz, Lizzy and Jen.
And to think I've been called emo/Goth in 7th grade just for drawing pictures of dark video game characters in my notebook.
When I was in 7th grade, I was called "CRAZY EMO GIRL" by my history teacher for having a bunch of band pics in my notebooks and folders :P
.im trying to picture a nine-year old emo kid in my head, that was awkward and sort of disturbing.
So true! I love this. People label me as tree-hugger or hippie like its a bad thing.
'labels' are something this generation has made up to mean something entirely different then what it really is.
Milk cartons have labels...
Are you going to call them Goth?
Didnt think so....
Ugh, yeah I agree. It's disturbing to find 9 to 11 year olds ranting about how they are emo and people hate them. I used to feel sorry for one girl, until I ran into a discussion she and another user had. The user disagreed with her opinion and she freaked out, saying things like: "Stop trying to change me! Stop hating on me! I hate my life!"
-_-
SOOOO TRU!!!!!!!!! :D AGREED!!! Haha
Agreed 100%
I completely agree with the stop labeling, it's a form of bullying which I'm completely against.
That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying labels are not offensive or any harm to anyone (most of them).
If I called you an offensive name that would be labelling (in a nasty way) and if I called you nice name then that also would be a label because I'm describing you. It all deoends on the label.
A better way to word what I think you might be going for is that there's a difference between describing someone with a 'label' and intent to insult someone.
Basically, this was just a simple rant.
Yeah, I know.
