We Got Back my Ancestry DNA Test Results, and it Turns Out, We Had our DNA All Wrong!

Who would've guessed that I'm part Asian and African?

Chapter 1

So... Apparently I'm Even More of a Melting Pot than we Thought!

Okay, my whole life, asking about my ancestry I've always been told the same things. All the grandparents, aunts and uncles, even mom dad agreed that we were mostly Irish, German, and French, with a dash of Cherokee Native American, and a little sprinkling of Spanish, as I had a great-grandmother who was born in Cuba but her family migrated there from Spain. So whenever it came time to check boxes for heritage on tests or forms, I'd always check White, Native American, and Latina. There was no question in my mind that I was anything else besides those 5 listed. The only question I had was how much of each. I figured I was mostly Irish and German, because my grandfather in NY LOVES everything Irish and has Branigan as his last name, and the German because my other grandfather is originally from western NC, which is almost all German people. The French I thought came next, because we think our ancestors migrated over from a French Port. Then I assumed I had the least Cherokee and Cuban/Spanish because I have auburn hair, freckles, and green eyes. I guessed at max an 8th or 16th for both of those.

Then on my birthday, Uncle Jordan and Daryl (My god-brothers, we don't share blood. Jordan is just the son of my god-parents, family friends) surprised me with an ancestry DNA kit. Of course, we got that set up and sent in the sample. Today, a month and a week later, we got back our results.

I'm 46% English/Welsh. None of us had any idea that we were English.

16% Western European. Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein. (I think only the French and German apply to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the others were mixed in too!)

9% Eastern European. Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Russia, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia. (No one has any idea which countries we come from, but there's at least one of them in me.)

9% Irish. I was shocked as eff to see only 9% Irish. Grandpa Branigan is not going to be happy haha.

10% Scandinavian/Northwest Russian. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Northwestern Russia. (Once again, no one has idea which ones we belong to or where it came from, but hey, I'm proud to be part viking haha!)

4% Iberian Peninsula. Spain and Portugal. (I guess we're not as Spanish as we had thought!)

4% Italian and Greek. (Yep, no idea that we were either of these at all)

The other 2% that isn't European is less than 1% Native American (Cherokee), less than 1% Asian (Central Asia, more or less the Middle East) and less than 1% African (Senegal). Honestly no one in the family thought we had the tiniest bit of Asian or African in us, but it's there!

So now that we've been shocked, who else is questioning their ancestry? XD
