Chapter 2

The Beach (Chapter 2)

It was dark out when we got to LA. I shook Kyle gently, who had fallen asleep on the way here. He groaned softly, pushing my hand away. I smiled down at him slightly.
“Kyle sweetie, we’re here.” I said quietly. His eyes fluttered open, and he sat up, his eyes dropping. “You can go back to sleep when we get to our hotel.” I reassured him, he yawned and stood up.
We checked into our hotel and a bellhop helped us bring our luggage to our room. Kyle, who was still exhausted was tripping and stumbling when he walked. Sighing, I lifted him up and carried him the rest of the way. This probably wasn’t the best thing for my back, but I really didn’t want him to hurt him self.
Kate glanced at me and rolled her eyes, smiling. “Your such an overprotective mom.” She said and I smirked. “He’s so cute.” Vanessa commented, twirling a strand of his blonde hair between her fingers. "Did he fall back asleep?” I asked as the elevator reached our floor. “Yeah.” Ness said.

I laid Kyle down on one of the beds in the room. He rolled over and sank down into the covers a little more. I sat down on the edge and carefully pulled his shoes off, trying not to wake him up.
We rented a car to use for the week, so we were going to drive down to the beach. I put on a black bikini, and put a pink tank and a pair of ripped capris on over top of it.
I grabbed Kyle before he could run out to the water. “What?’ he asked looking up for me. I grabbed the bottle of sunscreen, he groaned. I laughed, then made him put it on.
Vanessa and I sat out on our towels on the sand while Kate went and played with Kyle in the water. “Aren’t you glad we came?” Vanessa sighed, lying back on her towel, soaking up the sun, trying to get tanner than she already was. “Sure.” I mumbled, then grabbed my Ipod from my bag and put it on shuffle. The song ‘California Girls’ by Katy Perry came up, I laughed quietly to myself. I leaned back and watched Kyle for a little bit.

I looked around the beach, people were all over the place. There were a lot of girls tanning, like Vanessa, and there were people playing catch and Frisbee.
I grabbed my sketchpad out and began to draw what was around me.
I concentrated mostly on the water, the shoreline, the sand, the clouds, and how the position of the sun in the sky. I imagined the beach empty, drawing the lifeguard chair without someone in or around it.
Someone slammed into my head, nearly making me fall over from the impact. A football landed with a light thump onto the sand beside me.
I rubbed the side of my head, groaning softly.
“I am so sorry! My friend has a wicked bad aim, but a strong arm.” Someone said approaching me.
It was a guy, he was slightly tanned, had black hair that hung in his face, and he had a slight six-pack, not the most impressive six-pack, but it was there.
He was bare-footed and only had on a pair of swim shorts and aviator sunglasses.
Over all he looked to be in his mid-twenties. I grabbed the football his buddy chucked at my head, and stood up.
I handed it to him and he smiled, taking off his sunglasses, he had gray eyes with a tint of blue in them.
“I’m Connor.” He introduced himself.
“Erin,” I said, smiling slightly.
I could feel Vanessa starring at the two of us.
“Are you new around here? Because I swear if I’d seen you before I’d remember you.” He said, with a flirty grin. I blushed slightly.
“Yeah, I’m actually just up here for the week.” I said,
“Oh, hmm that’s too bad.” He sighed, “Why is that too bad?” I asked, playing along.
His face lit up a little
“Well, it’s just you seem like a really great girl, and I would have loved to get to know you a little better.” He answered.
“HEY! Dip-sh!t, what’s taking so lon- oh cute girls.” Another guy said approaching us. Connor rolled his eyes, but then smiled. “Erin, this is Chad, the ‘dip-sh!t’ that threw the football at your head." Connor introduced, I giggled a little.
“Yeah, sorry ‘bout that.” Chad apologized scratching the back of his head. “As long as it was an accident, then it’s fine.” I said, smirking a little.
“Why would it be on purpose?” Chad asked, a little nervously.
“Well, it’d give your buddy over here an excuse to come and talk to me.” I said, both of them, no lie, blushed.
“She’s good.” Chad muttered, Connor punched him in the arm, Chad glared at him.
“This is a little flattering, but I’m afraid I’m going to need to get revenge." I ripped the football out of Connor’s hand, then threw it at Chad’s head.
It bounced off Chad’s head into his hands.
“I guess I deserved that, but-“ before he could finish, I took the football from him and threw it at Connor’s head, something neither of them expected.
“What was that for?” Connor asked rubbing his head, the football fell to his feet.
“For getting Chad to throw it at me.” I said innocently. Connor grinned,I blushed slightly.
I noticed Chad starring over at Vanessa. I picked the football back up, and lightly threw it at her. She sat up, her sunglasses falling off. She starred at me, then stood up.
“Hi.” She said to Chad, he grinned.
“Connor, Chad, this is my friend Vanessa.” I introduced Connor mumbled a “Hi.” And Chad spoke louder, saying
“Hey.” Connor and Chad looked at each other, grinning.
“How would you ladies like to go on a double date with us? Erin with me, Vanessa with Chad?” Connor asked, Vanessa and I looked at each other.
She gave me a look that said ‘Please please, please!’ and I gave her a look that said ‘Fine.’
She grinned triumphantly, then we turned back to the guys.
“We would love to.” Vanessa said “Great.” Cad replied, winking at her, she giggled.
“We’ll pick you up at eight, on Wednesday, if that’s okay with you.” Connor said,
“That’d be great.” I replied, then bent down and wrote down the hotel we were staying at, and gave it to them.

“Well, Connor and I have to go now, we’d love to stay, but we can’t.” Chad said, Connor nodded, they both looked upset.
“That’s okay, we’ll see you tommorrow.” I said because tomorrow was wednesday, Vanessa nodded eagerly.
And then they walked away, down the beach. Vanessa squealed, damn she did that a lot.
“Wow, technically it’s our first day in California and we already have boys asking us out!” she said.
“Mmhhmm, guess it’s a good thing Kate’s engaged, because she’s going to have to watch Kyle for me.” I mumbled, Vanessa nodded, but then busted out into a giggle fit.
“You are so weird.” I said, then ran down the beach towards the water. I spotted Kate and Kyle and slowed down. They didn’t see me, I grinned.
I stepped into the water, it felt really good, compared to the heat.
Kate noticed me, and I pressed my finger to my lips, motioning for her to be quiet and not tell Kyle.
I was a few feet away from them, then dove in and grabbed Kyle. “Rawr!" I growled in his ear.
He laughed, grabbing on to me. I laughed, letting him go. He pushed me, trying to make me go farther into the water, Kate grinned then shoved me.
I fell backwards, quickly grabbing her to bring her down with me.
Kyle was laughing at us, I stuck my tongue out at him, and he jumped on me.
It was Wednesday, so today Vanessa and I were going shopping to get outfits for our dates. “Do we have to go shopping?” Kyle whined, I sighed.
“YES!” Vanessa yelled, I glared at her.
“Tell you what buddy, I will get you something at the store, then after we’ll take you to one of the playgrounds we saw. But, you have to promise not to whine or complain at all, deal?” I asked, he thought about it.
“Deal.” He said, then shook my hand, I laughed.
Vanessa and I found our outfits. Kyle didn’t complain, so I bought him some toy he wanted, then we left for the playground. Kate was driving and she parked near the first one we saw.
Kyle hopped out of the car and ran to the playground before any of us could get out of the car. There weren’t really a lot of people there.
I got out of the car, then followed Kate and Vanessa to the park.
Vanessa ran over to the swings. Kate and I laughed at her.
She sat on one, then pushed off from the ground and was instantly swinging through the air.
“Aw what the heck.” I said, then I also ran over to the swings.
“Wow.” Kate laughed, as I ran.
I sat down on the swing next to Vanessa, then did exactly what she had done. I was soaring in seconds.
“We used to swing all the time! Do you remember?” Vanessa asked, I nodded, laughing.
“Even in high school.” I said, she laughed along with me.
“I miss being a kid.” She sighed, starring over at Kyle who was currently going down a slide. Another little boy saw him and ran over to him.
They instantly began to play with each other. I smiled.
“Yeah, I kinda do too. Life was so easier.” I sighed,
Vanessa nodded in agreement.
“If you could go back, would you miss anything about being an adult, other than the freedom?” Vanessa asked, passing me on her swing.
“Yeah, Kyle of course.” I said
“Good point. Of course, you had him when you were still kinda a kid.” She said “I know, but I think when I had him I grew up.” I sighed, she nodded in understanding.
“I’d miss him too, he’s adorable and life would be boring without him.” She admitted, I laughed.
I slowed down a little on the swing, to reach into my pocket and grab my phone to see what time it was. It wasn’t in my pocket.
“Sh!t, I left my phone in the car.” I muttered, then jumped off the swing.
I walked back over to the car, I opened the back door and grabbed my purse, took my phone out of it, then shoved it back into my pocket.
I shut the door, and when I turned around I heard barking.
A dog was running at full speed toward me. It jumped up against me playfully.
I laughed softly, and leaned down to pet the dog.
“Aww, aren’t you just adorable!” I cooed to the dog, petting it as it licked my face. I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of dog it was, because I wasn’t a dog expert, all I knew was I had a brown Labrador puppy, and when I was a kid we had a big golden retriever.
“I am so sorry!" I looked up and my eyes widened…….TBC
